"Dinner was very nice. We asked for extra spice and the chef complied by dialing up the heat. Everything we had was quite delicious. Somehow, I didn't get the concept of the lounge singer doing 80's music, badly and loud. Dinner was a lot more enjoyable when he was on break."

"From the very friendly staff to Ms. G's attention to her guests and food, it was great. Things can get a bit spicy hot. Be careful. Will be back vey soon."

"My biggest complaint with this restaurant was our server had a very heavy accent, and was extremely difficult to understand. This made ordering a challenge."

"Chose the $40 per person tasting menu and had a wonderful meal with an unbelievable amount of food. Highlights were the lamb, duck, whole fish and Brussels sprouts. Great, attentive service. Next time will not do the tasting menu but focus on the favorite dishes we had. We asked for a heat level of 3 (we like spicy food) and it was perfect for us."

"Enjoyed a Sichuan 3-course lunch for 2 for $28. First course for the table (4 to choose from) was the selection of the Peking duck salad; 2nd course for the table (6 to choose from) was the selection of the pork dumplings in chili oil; and the 3rd course for each diner (10+ to choose from with a choice of white or brown rice) consisted of the boiled hot sauce with fish and triple pepper with pork. These dishes can be prepared to varying levels of "hotness"."

"The Beef Lovers Quarrel was righteous. The wontons in chili oil were exquisite. But two appies do not make a great Szechuan experience. The kung pao (I was dubious, but was promised it wasn't mere Chinatown pablum, but the real Szechuan deal) turned out to be mere Chinatown pablum and the Singapore noodles ditto.
The heat index is 1 to 5, and our waiter said the 5 meant our eyes would bug out, our noses would run and sweat would pour from our foreheads and drip onto our plates. I'm not kidding, it's what he said. So we went #4 and had to ask for hot sauce to give the kung pao a little flavor.
It's no Han Dynasty."

"I recommend Jane G's to everyone and have brought out-of-town foodies to show off this gem of a restaurant. The food is reliably good -- dumpling sampler, popcorn shrimp, dan dan noodles-- all excellent!"

"Went with a group of 7, first time at the restaurant. Had a fabulous dinner: the tasting menu was inventive, great breadth of tastes that all were delicious and appropriately spicy, and a ton of food. Actually had the owner (Jane) and her son (mgr) check on us several times to explain the cuisine and make sure we were enjoying ourselves. Service was excellent. Among our our group was a friend who also is a national food magazine editor - so "expert" in the truest sense -- and she loved it. GO!"

"Food was very good. Protion sizes were generous. They have a scale of spicy from 1-5... and 5 IS spicy as noted by adventurous members of the team..."

"Food was good but on the bland side and we had to ask for extra seasoning for the fish and seafood dishes that we ordered. Dinners were not served together and there was a fairly long wait for the second dish. They use a great deal of soft tofu and I prefer the firm, which is a personal preference. Dumplings and warmed saki were delicious. Freshness of food was excellent."

"I live right across the street from JANE G Been there many times and always enjoyed the food.
It is a beautiful place, hard to beleive a few years back it was a video store Now a 1st class restaurant.
My only complaint, the place was virtually empty, and at the next table they sat a family w/a little kid who was nosiy & all over the place...under the chair, the table..and it was annoying Glad our meal was practically finished."

"The food was delicious and our server was wonderful! She was able to answer all of our questions. We had some vegetarians in our group of 5, and the kitchen was very accomodating to the dietary requests. In addition, the tables are spaced far enough apart so that we were able to hold a conversation during dinner. Perfect for our needs!"

"The food was definitely a notch above your normal neighborhood chinese restaurant. Fresh ingredients, szechuan spicy but something for everyone. The fish was really good. Service was very friendly but a little slow - could be because it was a special night. I'll go back!"

"It's very difficult to find true authentic Szechuan and upscale decor and service in one restaurant - Jane G's is it. The food was spot on and authentic enough to please this born-and-raised Chinese gal, and the service and ambiance were both amazing. I was not expecting to find something like this right in Rittenhouse Square. You get the "hole in the wall" authenticity in the food with beautiful presentation and upscale feel."

"Had a lunch meeting there; some well-priced specials and the popcorn shrimp, which can be hit or miss, was a complete hit. I imagine it would be good ambience for dinner as well."

"While the food was excellent, especially for restaurant week, it was an extremely cold day outside and the restaurant had not turned the heat up properly to compensate. So the restaurant was absolutely freezing cold inside. Nice for June, not for January. The service was also terribly slow and there were only a few other tables occupied."

"The food was good, the people were nice. The reason why I rated the service "Fair" was because we had gone there for lunch, and it took them an hour and a half to serve us our meal even though the restaurant was pretty much empty. Granted it was the restaurant week three course menu, the food we ordered wasn't anything special. We all pretty much got the same thing - popcorn shrimp, general tso's chicken, and cheesecake."

"The bar and bartenders at this place are great, however, I asked for very little spice on my pad thai and it was very spicy. Also, I asked for NO peanuts sprinkled on my pad thai, and it came with it on too. The desserts were good, and our server seemed attentive, but not quite attentive enough. They have an extensive menu, but more might need to be done in order to fill this place up."
