"St. James is not awful, but it's not good. Really too bad as its a good location. Menu is a bit all over the place; food is generally bland and unimaginative; portion sizes are small; and prices are high, especially given the portions and quality. Party of three I dined with had 2 apps, 1 salad, 2 entrees, and a few drinks. Apps were just ok; salad was decent; one entree (Fettucine) was tasteless and the other (Brisket) was ok, but nothing special. All in all, it is a menu where you find there is nothing on it you want to order and then when the food arrives it is disappointing and nothing that an average home cook couldn't far outdo. Service is more like what you'd expect in a Chili's rather than a decent restuarant. Won't go back."

"A friend and I decided to head out for a dinner. We chose The Saint James and had a lovely evening. The food was delicious, especially the lobster role, well actually, the beet salad was also quite yummy."

"St. James was terrific! After reading the LeBan review, I wasn't sure what to expect. Boy was that guy wrong - must have had something against the place. I visited for lunch and had the brisket sandwich. Delicious! My guest had the burger and we split an order of the raviolis and flat bread pizza. Everything was excellent. The warm chocolate chip cookies were a wonderful way to top things off. I can't tell you how impressed I was with St. James. FINALLY - we have a place for good food on the Main Line. I will certainly be going back soon."

"We booked the ST JAMES with no knowledge of the restaurant or even menu as none was available. We were pleasantly surprised - location is great with lots of parking, food was really good - great lobster roll, corn lobster bisque was amazing, and one in our party had a hardy breakfast. Everyone was very happy! Wait staff was very friendly and service was great. It was crowded so we anticipated slow service but not the case. Would definitely go again"

"Food was delicious. Service nice. But the noise at this place makes it impossible to have a conversation with your dinner partner 12 inches away!!! Both the main dining room and the bar have the same issue. I have dined here a few times - lunch is better but the whole experience would be greatly improved with some rugs and sound tiles. We won't be back until they fix this."

"I really want to like it here; we have such limited options on the main line, and the location is great. However, this was my 5th and last time. I kept going back not because it was any good, but rather because I kept feeling like they deserved another chance, that maybe they had improved. Sadly, no. Service was gruff and snooty, the food took FOREVER to arrive (and though it was lunch time there were maybe only 10 other people there). When the food did arrive it was mediocre. The ambiance is a bit stark and uninteresting, and the accoustics are horrible! Too many hard surfaces, no padding. The sound just bounces off of every surface and it is almost impossible to hear your table mates! Can't imagine how this place will survive."

"We were very happy with the St. James on 5/11/2013. However since it was a graduation celebration, i had called earlier that week to see if we could bring our own wine as mentioned on the website. The hostess said 'yes, but there would be a corkage fee. I said fine'. When we asked our waiter to open the bottles of wine, he said that they don't allow outside wines. I told him that i had called and it was ok. So my husband went to the hostess and asked again and she said 'it was fine to open'. However our waiter said 'no' that was wrong. We were quite disappointed since it was a special occasion! We would return ...food was delicious and ambiance was great! Christine, Clinton ,NJ"

"Our sixth time here and but we are usually go when it's slower and the food has improved but it was very slow getting our food . Seafood platter seems to be a go to item . Asparagus over cooked and tomato and mozz seem like they have the thought of a side dish. Server was good."

"My daughter took me to an early Mother's Day lunch. We were really disappointed with the food.....lobster roll with very chewy lobster....smoked salmon/bagel platter with stringy salmon. Our server was wonderful and the restaurant is very attractive."

"We went for brunch and were seated in the bar area. The room was bright and comfortable. We decided to get a selection of appetizers for the meal, including tuna tartare, pork belly "sandwich" and duck confit flatbread. All were tasty. The tuna was a bit mushy. The pork belly had layers of delicious flavor including a sweet root beer barbeque sauce. The duck confit flatbread was a wonderful comibination with carmelized onions. Overall, it was a nice dining experience. I'll be back."

"Some of previous reviews were not very positive. However, we had a very positive experience. The Calamari and tuna tartare appetizers were delicious. My salmon was prepared as ordered, medium rare and ver moist. My guests had mushroom pasta and brisket. My only comment would be that the brisket dish might have been a bit larger considering the price."

"Our meal was absurdly late in being served. Our waiter apologized, saying they were overwhelmed by a large party of 30, but I kind of doubt that was the real issue. Probably they were understaffed, someone crucial missing in the kitchen. Although they gave us a break on our tab, I would not return again."

"Overall disappointing. The restaurant itself is very attractive. The menu is nice though a little over priced for the entrees. I could live with the pricing if the food were excellent and the service better. I could not understand how at 6:45 pm on a Friday the restaurant could be out of a shrimp lettuce cup appetizer. How could a restaurant serve dinner rolls without at least asking if we wanted butter or olive oil. Mahi mahi taco appetizer was delicious, though portion was incredibly small for the price. Was told that if I ordered burger medium, enter would be pink - actually was well done - no pink or red. Kitchen must be overwhelmed - with restaurant half full - service was slow."

"I was basically disappointed with our meal at this restaurant. It frankly felt like it was their first night being open- though of course it was not. For instance, the bread comes without butter, then when you ask for it, they refer to your request as, "extra butter." The appetizers come out alarmingly quick, but then aren't really as they're described. The "charred Spanish octopus," had a delicious flavor but had not been grilled at all. Yes, the charred octopus has no char what-so-ever on it. The crab flat bread comes with- though incredibly fresh- completely unseasoned crab. The menu appears to suggest that sides come a-la-carte- yet some dishes come with lots of sides. Amateurish acting restaurants shouldn't serve $75 a head meals."

"Food was better than previous visits, Go for the pasta. My wife's pasta with lobster was excellent. Unfortunately my "medium" burger was beyond well done. It was just a puck of dry beef with a thick charred crust."

"Although the place itself was lovely and our waitress was very friendly, the food was just nothing special. Especially at the very high price it came at. $25 for beef brisket with 5 gnocchi? It was a smaller menu and the food tasted like something I could have easily made in my own kitchen."

"Thought this place would be a lot better. Our waiter was non social and cranky, our food was soso. What I didn't understand was that I made a reservation online and it gave me 4 time slots. 6 & 6:15 or 8& 8:30. I chose 6:15. We arrived and the place was empty. It didn't start filling up until 7:30 when we left. Why didn't it offer us additional time slots such as 7:00?"

"Don't believe all of the garbage you read about St. James. For some reason, the press decided to pile on. I have eaten here many times and have always enjoyed the food and the experience. Is it five-star dining? No, and it doesn't claim to be. But is it among the best available in the vast food wasteland known as the Main Line? Oh yes."

"Business lunch there in April 2013. Kitchen does not meet expectations. Service friendly but overattentive. Too much server time at the table. Not sure what kind of place St. James is trying to be--upscale Applebees or fine dining. Was not a great place for a business lunch. Room largely populated with moms and children making a racket. It's still new and seems to be evolving. Plate is the only nearby competition, so I'm hoping the owners find their niche and the kitchen finds its footing."

"Food and service were good, not great. Eggs benedict w/home fries which were SALTY! The eggs were on regular ham (not Canadian bacon) and that was good. Hollandaise sauce was skimpy and not particularly lemony, which I prefer. Service was ok, several times we had to ask for butter and bread until it finally appeared. It IS a pleasant ambience and cheerful and has a nice crowd of families and couples and groups of friends...I think we could have done better from a financial and quality point of view."

"I saw some contrasting reviews on Open Table, but decided to try it anyway and I am so glad I did! The menu is lovely and the food does not disappoint. The service was impeccable - attentive, but not overly. It got a little noisy as the night progressed. With a little appropriately placed carpeting or soft art, they could probably do something to dampen the conversation noise. But the good news is people were having a great time. A little pricey, but not out of line for the rather expensive Main Line. We'll be back."

"The fava bean ravioli appetizer was great. Steak was OK.
The cocktails could use some work. For me, they are too sweet and half-hearted. In this neighborhood, it's hard to find a good restaurant with a cocktail bar. Usually, either the food is really good and it's BYOB, or there are drinks, but the restaurant is otherwise ho-hum. If the drinks could improve, and the menu were tweaked, this place would kill.
The wait staff was very attentive and pleasant."

"Just not great food. The location is a gem, right in the heart of the Lower Main Line. Outdoor seating when the weather improves will be fantastic. The restaurant is attractive. The Kale salad is not exciting. My daughter would not eat the fish tacos, they just did not taste good. There is no imagination to the menu. The bread served at the table was delicious. I would like the idea of having a number of different flatbread dishes to choose. Moore healthy soups, as kale and white bean....we want healthy on the Main Line!!"

"This visit was significantly better than our last one, after which we would not have returned except for the staff changes shortly thereafter. Sadly, our family of 5 was once again crammed into a booth designed for 4 with an extra chair stuck in the aisle, and 2 of our family members are clearly too large to sit comfortably in such close quarters. As before, the place was never even half full - so there was once again no excuse for not putting us at a larger table. The food was fine but nothing was outstanding, and our servers were extremely nice and attentive. The push to sell is clear, e.g. I was asked at least half a dozen times if I wanted another beer after I'd politely said that I was only having one. It doesn't feel successful yet."

"We sat in the 'dining area' side but this still felt like a sports pub trying to dress up. I say 'pub' because it kind of had this weird plaid/floral mix in the decor so I guess it was trying to be Scottish? Great that it had a kids menu, but I just don't think it knows what exactly it wants to be."
