L'Apicio is located at 13 E. 1st Street (between Bowery and 2nd Avenue). The Italian-inspired restaurant gets its name from the 18th century Italian cookbook, and brings Executive Chef Gabe Thompson's cravable modern Italian food to the East Village. L'Apicio offers a deep cocktail and wine program created by Beverage Director Joe Campanale, while Executive Pastry Chef Katherine Thompson oversees the pastry program. L'Apicio is open for dinner seven days a week and brunch on the weekends, featuring lounge and bar areas and outdoor seating, in addition to the main and private dining rooms.
"Came here for brunch during my bachelorette weekend with 5 of my girlfriends. The restaurant is gorgeous and the food was excellent. Their crumb cake/ coffee cake is out of this world and so are their banana pancakes!! I plan on coming back for brunch."

"What to say? I took my wife and our two young children to L"Apicio for Mother's day and we were treated so well! The food was great, the waitress and the manager were non-intrusive but very attentive to how we were experiencing the atmosphere, the food, the service."

"Great location on East 1st near Bowery & Houston. Decor and ambience hit all the right notes, warm lighting and open spaces that feel cozy and inviting. Service is stellar, we got excellent recs for cheeses, wines, beers, etc. The food, however, was over salted in the majority of the items we ate. A side of brussel sprouts would have been amazing but for the salt. Same with a mushroom salad (of all things) - mushrooms had entirely too much vinegar and salt. A dish of lamb chops and fingerling potatoes was cooked well, not over salted, just kind of run of the mill. Overall, we enjoyed just being in the restaurant, relaxing and having drinks more than the food. Don't know that I can recommend to a friend. If we return, we'll sit at the bar."

"My second experience at L'Apicio was not nearly as good as the first. We were given a table for two that was adjacent to a heavy brown curtain that was separating a group party from the main restaurant. So, not only was the noise level high, the people behind the curtain did not realize that a table was there and we were often bumped.
Additionally, the entrees were alot saltier than I recall from my first dining experience. Appetizer and cheese course, however, were delicious. But, I might think twice before going back."

"like so much, going a little slower can make for a more pleasurable experience. The place is new and staff eager, but perhaps like a first date, a little too eager - then it all happens at once and a few minutes later it is the case of 'was that it'. so: Wine - we started with bubbles, but were n't allowed to keep the wine list so never got beyond first base on this. Food: Very good to mediocre depending on dish: Good carrot/ricotta pasta, excellent watercress salad but a tiny bland Fish main. Service: Eager, willing, no table ownership. we had three wait staff in a short period of time. Timing: dreadful - appetizers had not left the table before the mains were delivered. No spacing, no break. turns out we did n't need that wine anyway."

"The food is outstanding and the people who work there are wonderful. The servers know everything on the menu and then some. The sommelier is a pleasure to deal with. The Brussels sprouts are heavenly little morsles - you cannot go to L'Apic without having these. Also, the specials are ALWAYS scrumptious :)"

"Place was great. Pork meatball polenta was one of the best things I've ever tasted, EVER. Main course portions were on the small side for an Italian restaurant (maybe its because I'm a New Yorker but I expect large portions at Italian places), but other than that the food was great. Service was good too, waiter was able to pick a nice bottle of wine that went nicely with our meal."

"Great food. Great drinks. Quite enough that you can bring your parents and they can still hear but not too quiet that everyone can hear your conversation. I had the best ricotta cheese I have ever had in my life. All of the pasta is made there and it is amazing. I will go back for sure, next time with out my parents."

"This was our fourth visit to L'Apicio. The first three were exceptional, this was not. It was good, but appetizers arrived warm to cool, not hot, and one of our entrees arrived 10 minutes after the others, making certain that the warm food already at the table was cold before we could eat it. Servers didn't know which dishes belonged to whom. We had to ask for one drink six times before it came (we asked nicely, I promise). It was Saturday night, which certainly contributed to the problem. So I'm reducing my Excellent to Very Good."

"The restaurant is nice, the food is very good but the noise level makes it a no for me. I arrived at 6:00 pm and the music was loud. So I asked if it could be lowered down. Then with people arriving the noise level became totally unacceptable."

"House-Cured Gravlax and Warm Mushroom Salad were beautifully executed appetizers - perfect for sharing. The Frittata and Broccoli Rabe are wondefully full of flavor, yet heathly. L’Apicio uses great ingredients and provides a wonderful atmosphere. Great brunch spot for a enjoyable and satifying experience."

"I went here with my wife for her birthday, on a Tuesday night. The service was excellent and unhurried. They were clearly not trying to turn tables like many places in this neighborhood. When we couldn't decide between the many appealing menu choices, our waiter provided nice guidance that turned out to be spot-on. The hazelnut salted caramel ice cream cake is among the best deserts I've ever eaten. I highly recommend this restaurant."

"The food was all verygood (we ordered the ricotta, watercress salad, charred octopus, and several pasta dishes), but the service was less than mediocre. We had a 9pm reservation, arrived on time, and after checking in with the host, he ignored us for 20 minutes. We had to ask twice about the status of our table before they even let us know that they were still waiting for the group who had paid to get up so they could clear it. And after another 20 minutes, at 9:40, when we asked yet again, there was no apology, no acknowledgment that we'd been waiting for 40 minutes. They just said, "they people at your table are still sitting, so we'll put you at another table." Great, thanks for finally accommodating us..."

"While the service was excellent and we enjoyed our meal L'Apicio failed to meet up to our expectations. The goat cheese appetizer excellent, charred octopus is very good - the romaine salad mediocre - the very small entrees of parpadalle and orrechiate were no more than good - the broiled chicken very tender but the wonderful crispy skin was overcome by salt and lemon - the desserts were very good but nothing earth shattering. It was nice to try it but cannot recommend because the food is so uneven.."

"A place with excellent service, a very nicely done decor and ambiance, BUT a big let down when it comes to the food. Though the menu offerings are excellent and very creative, the execution is poor. When I complained the the appetizers had way too much salt, the service staff admitted that they get this complaint a lot! They offered to ask the kitchen staff to go easy on the salt for the entrees. Guess what, they were extremely salty too!!!
Pity. I just can't talk myself into going back."

"Ours was an unfortunate experience at L'Apicio and it may affect future Open Table reservations.
Wed, 7:15pm, 25 b-day celebration. All duly noted. Arrived on time, seated in the very back corner of the restaurant - a booth for 3 with a view of the kitchen clean up area. The bday girl was given the best seat facing into the back area of the restaurant. I cant comment on decor as all I saw was wait staff coming and going. I am beginning to think that OT reservations lead to undesirable seating and notes are not read.
L'Apicio came highly recommended. The problem was apparent mid meal after waiting unnecessarily (17 min) between courses. Motioning to our waiter, we were informed via apology the kitchen was backed up.
We will not re"

"Food and service in general were outstanding. Wine recommendations were informed and right on the mark. Service in general was very good - but my major disappointment is that they really rushed us to finish. We ordered a cheese course and were enjoying it with our wine, and the servers came and said - we need to take away your cheese course because your entrees are arriving shortly. And forced us to put remaining cheese on side plates while they hustled our entrees in. I understand they are a hot spot, but totally not appropriate for a restaurant of this caliber. Really left a very sour taste in my mouth - despite the fact that the food was amazing. And despite this completely obnoxious rushing, the service was friendly and knowledgeable."

"Went in with high expectations, given positive word of mouth and great experiences at Dell'Anima, but neither the uninspired menu nor the sloppily-prepared food delivered. Quail was overcooked and the herb stuffing overwhelmed the delicate bird; pasta (orrechette) was overcooked, with none of the al dente firmness one hopes for, tagliata was flavorless and salad of grilled radicchio lacked any distinctive grilled flavor. What a bore in a generic "modern" setting."

"I would really give this place 4 stars for the food and decor but 3 -3.5 stars to the service and the wine. For starters, we had the Pear Salad, Mushroom Polenta and the Charred Octopus and their Ricotta cheese special. The Polenta and the Ricotta were outstanding and I would definitely have to have them again. The mushroom polenta was so hearty and rustic with terrific flavors. The homemade (I believe) Ricotta was so deliciously creamy. The Pear salad and the octopus were good but nothin' to write home about and are forgettable. For dinner, everyone loved their pasta entrees (we did not do the traditional Italian courses). The Mezzaluna stuffed with cauliflower was the favorite with a lovely delicate pasta encasing a creamy, tast"

"Already been here 3 times since it was opened. Great place. Must say the service during brunch was less professional and polished than their normal dinner service. Food came out too quickly, they were slow to remove plates and had an attitude. Hope that's not a sign of getting too big for it's britches already (like Il Buco Alimentari)"

"We enjoyed our meal very much, but the service is why I'm writing this review. When my friend couldn't decide between two wines, the waiter (whose name I wish I remembered) offered her (and me) a taste of both. Bonus points for letting us taste both concurrently. We had ordered the polenta with mushrooms with anticipation, but it turned out to be really salty. When we mentioned this to the waiter, he offerred to replace it. We accepted his recommendation of the orchiette, and it was very good. When we got our check, we learned that not only had he not charged us for the polenta, but he had also not charged us for the orchiette. I am impressed and will be back."
