Chez Foushee
Chez Foushee opened in the Fall of 1989 as a small deli and catering operation offering carry-out and boxed lunches. As business continued to flourish a number of renovations occurred and the entire building was purchased in the Fall of 1995. Located in historic Monroe Ward, just blocks from the venerable Jefferson Hotel, we are situated close to downtown and the Broad Street arts district. Chez Foushee offers lunch and carry-out weekdays, as well as dinner every Friday and Saturday. Our menus change seasonally with an emphasis on fresh, local and sustainable ingredients. On site catering is available Monday – Thursday for private dinner and cocktail parties. Semi-private dining is offered on Friday and Saturday evenings. Please inquire about full-service offsite catering.

"This was my first time there and we shared it with Foushee veterans. The menu is great with something a little different and each prepared very well. My duck breast was above average. Beverages are a little pricey. Wine selection limited but acceptable. Their lemon cake was very good although it was too close to cheese cake for my taste. Our service was stellar. Friendly and very efficient. Best part of the experience. I would go back and use it for a special occasion. Noisey."

"My friend and I first ate at Chrz Foushee durin Richmind restaurant week and it was the best the place we ate at. We really enjoyed the menu selection and were surprised at how much we enjoed everything we ordered. I came back for the Mothers Day brunch and my mother really enjoyed herself. We had a 3-course meal and took home dessert for later. Yea... We're little piggies. The place is a little pricey but I definitely recommend treating yourself to Chez Foushee."

"Formore than a decade, Chez Foushee has been my first choice for a nice lunch with friends or an important business lunch. Now my husband and I go fir art walk nights out. The food is consistently excellent and ranges from homey to elegant, so you can choose what suits your mood. The service is always wonderful, and the staff goes out of their way to make you feel right at home. I love it at Chez Foushee, it is a respite and a reward."

"What a treasure. Had heard good things about this Restaurant but had not been there even though have lived in Richmond for several years. A wonderful menu, service, met the owner who came to the table to make sure we had good service and food.
Near the November Theater so a great place for dinng before going to the theater. Food was excellent. The best duck presentaton I had ever had. The choclolate molten lave dessert was to die for."

"Charming restaurant. Very comfortable for 2 or 10. Great ambiance. Nice little bar area. Not too big but you don't feel crowded. Service was a little slow but efficient. On the flip side never felt rushed which was pleasant change from other busy restaurants.

"What a nice place--we had been there previously. Despite it being a VERY BUSY Saturday evening--graduation, mothers day weekend---our server was absolutely terrific; very warm, attentive and friendly, and completely unhurried.
I gave the food 4 stars only because the menu lacked vegetarian or vegan items. The gnocchi was really the only entree that was veg. but it was really delicious!"

"After reading the reviews, we were excited to try this restaurant. What a disappointment. The ambaince and decor is great. But the food was really mediocre at best. From starters to main course, I can not think of one item thata I thought was well prepared. We did not even try the desserts after that. It is a shame. Not going back again unfortunately."

"Was very excited to eat here based on the reviews. Opted to make it a first time for us and some out of town guests. We had a great bottle of wine, the entree's were average. "Never a disappointment! As always a wonderful place to dine. My husband and I love to bring friends and family, especially if they have never eaten at Chez Foushee. This time we had the Shrimp & Grits-Outstanding! At my suggestion, one of our guests tried the Brussel Sptout Salad and loved it! And of course we all had the Lemon Butter Cake! What also makes this a very special place to dine is the outstanding service from Chuck, Joshua and Jeremy. This time we had Jeremy; he is a delight and very knowledgeable about the menu; our guests were very impressed with the entire experience!-A good time was had by all!!"

"Went during restaurant week, so the offerings were limited. Still, we enjoyed everything we tried - shrimp roumalade, cream spinach soup and mixed salad with beet chips and goat cheese for appetizers; blackened mahi-mahi, cod, and chicken for entrees; mousse, cheese cake and lemon thingy for dessert. Wine list is very short, but prices are reasonable. Service was great; Dennis took good care of us. The restaurant has a simple but interesting interior with three or four levels and slowly turning fans. Classy but not fussy. However, everything is bare wood and glass, so it got really, really noisy. Luckily we were there early, so by the time it filled up and got to shouting level, we were leaving. Still, overall a very nice experience."

"The restaurant has a really nice ambience, although I wouldn't go there for a nice quiet dinner. The fish entree was good but I didn't realize it would be spicy or I would have made another choice. The chocolate mousse cake was excellent, as good as I have had anywhere. The service was very good and the whole staff was very friendly. There is free parking in the lot next door which is very convenient. I will definitely go back again."

"We went with another couple during Richmond's restaurant week. We had a fabulous 3 course meal and one of the best wines I've had. We planned to get one bottle and completely finished two. "Visiting Richmond with my wife. Looking for a romantic restaurant with good food within walking distance from our hotel. We arrived before anyone else but by 5:30, it was filling up. Great service. Food was very good, serving size was portioned well. Clean inside, nice ambiance. Most importantly, my wife loved it and asked me where I had heard of it. I found it on the internet searching restaurants. Good selection of mixed drinks from the bar with an adequate wine list. I ordered a second lemon dessert because it was so good. "A terrific restaurant in a 'transitional' neighborhood. We walked several blocks to get to Chez Foushee from our hotel and we were a little concerned about some of the blocks that we went through, I have to admit.
Once we got there, what a surprise. It has a kind of Oriental/Turkish facade with a very traditional, upscale interior.
Both our meals were terrific and our waiter (Jeremy?) was helpful, knowledgable and prompt. Unfortunately, our visit was several weeks ago and I can't remember the details, but we know that we were very happy that we made the trek to get there!
If we're ever in Richmond again, we will return for sure."

"Stopped in for brunch on a drive from Charlotte to DC. Reviews made us expect something special but our actual food (fish & chips for him and prosciutto sandwich for me) and a round of Bloody Mary's (store bought mix but with a healthy dose of vodka) not worth a repeat visit. While the fish tasted fresh and the slaw good, fries tasted like the frozen variety. Sandwich had too much vinegar & red peppers to where you couldn't taste the prosciutto. Ambiance and service nice enough. Got coffee for the road, which was good but not great. Wouldn't search out and recommend Tastebuds restaurant instead!"

"Having lived in Richmond for over twenty-five years I had heard of Chez Foushee, but never partaken. With my wife just coming into town I went looking for a nice, but quiet, location for dinner. Chez Foushee popped up on Open Table and seemed just what I wante.
The atmosphere was very much like a New Orleans restaurant. The multileveled dining room was very nice for being above the crowd while not being too far away.
A very nice menu gave my wife and I the idea that we would be returning."

"There are a lot of good restaurants in Richmond. The city is big on food, and has many wonderful places to eat. But there are only a handful of truly excellent restaurants, and Chez Foushee is one of these.
Their menu is incredibly creative, with elements of French, Italian and Farm-to-Table. Our party of 6 enjoyed the duck, pork, gnocchi, and roasted brussels sprout salad, and all were just amazing. Save room for dessert, because their lemon cake and toffee pudding are too good to miss. The wine list is impressive, service excellent, and atmosphere comfortable and relaxing."

"Wow! What a find. This is an excellent example of how to serve, prepare and present food. This was the friendliest restaurant we have been in. The management was right out front and really interested in how your experience was. They seemed genuinely pleased that you came to their establishment. The food was excellent, the service was outstanding but the desserts were the hit of the night."

"Very pleasant dining experience! Not pretentious, in fact the menu comes across as being somewhat modest, but the food was both perfectly prepared and surprisingly creative with flavor! For a casual pre-theatre dinner it was a great choice- we mentioned on arrival that we had theatre tickets, and the waitstaff paced the delivery perfectly, reminding us when time was getting on. We so enjoyed the delicious servings and the comfortable ambiance that we just missed the curtain, all fault on ourselves. We loved the mussels and the smoked fish/brie fondue appetizers, and the main dishes were truly memorable. We will definitely return!"

"Our meal this last Friday was outstanding! There were 4 of us--and we were just floored ONCE AGAIN with the wonderful and varied menu selections! It was hard to choose! So our waiter Joshua (who was phenomenal--he took so much time in explaining the specials and making suggestions--far above what I have ever seen in any restaurant)--he brought 4 apps--all delicious! The food, ambience, drinks, wine--unmatched! It's truly our favorite place in Richmond! The chef does amazing flavors for the food! And please keep all of those dessert choices on the menu! They are stellar! Thank you once again for making our evening perfect!!!"

"We had dinner at Chez Foushee on Saturday and it was one of the best meals we've had in a long time. I had the cornish hen (one of the specials), and my husband had the duck. Both were unbelievably good. I also started with the Warm Brie and Smoked Fish Fondue, which had an amazing flavor. The service is top notch and very friendly - great atmosphere. I highly recommend Chez Foushee for brunch, lunch and especially dinner."

"My husband and I went to Chez Foushee for brunch on my birthday and we had an awesome experience. The food was amazing (I had the quiche and my husband had pork grillades) and everyone there made my birthday feel special. Great ambience. "This is the second time I have eaten here and enjoyed it even more than the first time. Based on the waiters recommendation I tried a Brussels sprouts salad with blue cheese and it was fabulous. It is not something I would have ordered without the recommendation. The entire experience was great and included great service from start to finish which made the food even better."

"Chez Foushee is our favorite restaurant in downtown Richmind. We have tickets to both the Richmond Forum and Broadway in Richmond and almost always make it a point to have dinner at Chez Foushee before those performances. We've never had anything other than an excellent meal there and they feature very good wines at reasonable prices. This week we both had the duck entree which was excellent. My wife had the brussel sprout salad which is always one of our favorites and I had the Sweetbread starter and that was also excellent."
