Chef Masaharu Morimoto has opened Tribeca Canvas, his first launch of a new brand! Here, Chef crafts an accessible, bistro-style menu that showcases his interpretation of comfort food while reflecting his unique culinary sensibility. This is marked by a seamless integration of Western cooking techniques and Asian ingredients. Tribeca Canvas also offers a value-orientated wine, sake and cocktail list, and will be open for dinner and late-night service until 4:00 a.m., every evening. Thomas Schoos Design is responsible for the fit-out of Tribeca Canvas, which encompasses an 80-seat dining room, 15-seat bar and space for private events.

"Took my wife and in-laws here this weekend. Not crowded; I don't think many people know about this place yet. Duck gyoza hash was amazing. We were also happy with the mac & cheese, wagyu sheperd's pie, and eggs benedict. They make a solid Bloody Mary. Great mimosa too. Will come back."

"Went for a Saturday night dinner to celebrate our anniversary and we couldn't have been happier. The hostess was lovely and very accommodating. The food was delicious! Surprising Asian combinations with classic comfort food. The rice cake and the lamb bun were standouts. Our waiter was helpful and very nice. Plus, everyone wished us a happy anniversary and our drinks were on the house!"

"Had a fantastic brunch today at Tribeca Canvas. I think it was their debut brunch and this is my new go-to Sunday spot. The dishes were so creative and delicious. Crab cake eggs benedict and Wagyu Shepards pie are insanely good. They also make homemade bagles and lox. Spicy blood mary was also excellent. Will be back again soon."

"i just love the menu at Tribeca Canvas. The fried chicken is probably the best i have every had. The lamb buns, hamachi tacos, shrimp nachos and lotus chips with guacamole are also to die for. Really had a great time and excellent vibe there last Sat night. We started fairly early when it was quieter and more family oriented. By the time we left, it was a lively downtown scene."

The Duk Boki was awful and it tasted like the took the top off a salt shaker and just poured it all on top. As a matter of fact, that what every dish tasted like. For such a beautiful room, I cannot believe how awful the food was. The steak was horrible, also salty to the point of being inedible. The fish was decent at best but it certainly was not good.
Service:
Equally as abysmal. The restaurant was half empty and it took 25 minutes to get a small plate of awful duk boki, and an additional 45 minutes to get our mains.. I stared at my empty glass of water all night.
Host/Maitre'd:
This guy was awesome and the lone bright spot in what will surely be a failed restaurant. If I had my own restaurant, I'd hire him."

"This is my third time back to Tribeca Canvas and it gets better each time. The menu has changed quite a bit since it opened with some very cool, new dishes that are just to die for. Red Snapper was a huge hit at our table, crispy skin on a bed of perfectly cooked market veggies. Lamb buns and hamachi tacos are consistently amazing and the new cocktail list was really clever and cool. Music was great and place was packed on Friday night. So glad this place continues to take further steps to improve and isn't complacent. Morimoto is a true professional!"

"We recently went on much needed girls night out (babies at home with the hubbies), and had a great time. The decor is Morimoto mixed with a vibrant black calligraphy modern feel. We ordered the shisito poppers, chicken kara age, hamachi tacos, and two orders of the Dukboki. The Dukboki with the foie and Japanese seasoning with nori on the side was to die for. I only wished they made it in an entree portion.
Everything was delicious, service was excellent. A high recommend!"

"I've wanted to try this place for awhile, but was disappointed when I did. Since I've dined at Morimoto in the past, I was expecting more. First off, when we arrived for our reservation, we were only 1 of 2 tables seated. I think there was 1 other table seated during our 3-hour meal. Also I was told a wine I ordered "sold out tonight," which was odd since nobody was there. Since I wasn't offered the more expensive varietal at the same price, I chose something else, which was not good. I think it was corked and had tons of sediment. So much so that I couldn't finish the last quarter of the glass.
The food was ok overall; not memorable. I think this place has potential but with so many options in the city, this isn't a place I'd visit again."

"I wanted to try this place ever since it opened. I have read a lot of bad reviews of this place, but that didn't deter me to try it. They may have influenced me to want to try it even more. I'm glad I did try it out, because I had a great time here. Not only did I find the food delicious, but the service and atmosphere were great too. "Our second time dining here. First time food was amazing (dokbukki with seaweed, lamb buns, mussels and chorizo are highlights you shouldn't miss), service was wonderful. Second visit, food was excellent but service was severely lacking. Our waiter did not offer to tell us specials, took a long time before taking our order, did not check on us during the meal, was not familiar with some of the dishes. We will return for the food and hope for better waiter. One disappointment: if you ask for one more piece of grilled bread for the mussels and chorizo (dish comes with one piece of bread cut in half), you will be charged $3.00, which is steep. If waiter told us beforehand, we would have skipped the extra bread."

"This is my second time back at Tribeca Canvas. This time I came in at 10pm (the kitchen is open until 3am!) with a group of four. We tried a few of their specials (all great), in addition to our last time favorites: buns, shrimp tacos, mac n cheese.
I hear they are opening a lounge soon - which will be nice after a late night meal. I'll be back for that soon."

"Food was okay, nothing super special. Service was awful--there were only about 14 people in the place (our table had 5 people) and service was STILL slow and awkward. Bar was out of some of the key ingredients to about 3 of its cocktails. And b/c the place was so empty (absolutely no one sitting at the bar all night), it was a very weird environment. "We went to TC because of the reputation of its owner, Morimoto. But this 2nd enterprise needs improvement. Although the food takes good, we found that much of the food was overcooked. We tried a number of dishes. For example, the corn dogs - the dogs looked good, but they were chewy and overcooked. The shrimp nachos tasted tangy and good but they were again chewy. The sea bass with creamy farro - the farro was delicious but the see bass was overcooked, chewy, even stringy. However, the Chicken Pot Pie was the best meal out of them all. Nice crust, delicious sauce inside, and the sausage gave the dish great flavor. This uneven cooking needs to be fixed. We want to come back because we'd like to give it a second chance."

"This was an exceptional meal - as we celebrated a 40th birthday of a friend and ate the finest cuisine. We had the whole fish, which was perhaps the most delicious dinner entree I've ever had in my life. It would have been expected at a seafood restaurant in the Caribbean, fresh and authentic.
We also ate the mussels, which were exceptional. So much flavor. Finally, we ordered the Wagyus beefs which may have been the finest cut of beef I've ever eaten. This was a steak that is similar to what Chef Mori Moto serves at his other restaurant and charges $180 for. It was perfect. We ordered 2 because it was that good.
This place is a hidden gem - one of the best meals I've had in NYC in a decade.

"A very nice place for a small group of people.
Good was an eclectic fusion, which mostly was very good. The only exception in concensus was the duck confit salad which was very strongly vinegared.
Decor is somewhat dark and Gothic.

"The combination of Japanese and Mexican is not working. Why were chopped black olives added on top of almost every dish we ordered? I love black olives, but they do not taste good with raw tuna, raw hamachi, and rock shrimp!
In addition, they were out of the three wines we ordered: prosecco rose, riesling, and sancerre."

"A nice addition to Tribeca. The shrimp Nacho's were fabulous as well as the taco and mussels. We had the sea bass which was delicious and one guest the chicken pot pie which he loved. Overall a good experience. Expensive without being outrageous and excellent service. I would recommend this as a very good dining experience."

"while the food was clever, there was a ton of fried food....and not a huge amount for anyone who just eats fish or veggies....very meat heavy. The servers were a bit green, they were somewhat helpful but honestly poorly trained, which made for an akward meal. I'm glad we went, but i wouldn't go again. We were a tad bit disappointed. That said, the shrimp nachos were quite good & the mac & cheese was as well (very clever to mix shiso on top)"

"Went with 6 friends last night and had one of the best meals I've had in months. We arrived a few minutes early so had drinks at the bar. I loved the old fashion and stole a sip of my friends mimosa which was fantastic. For food we ordered the rice cakes (to die for) the lamb buns (are these for real- out of his world) shrimp nachos (mouth watering) and the beef on the hot stone (so good we got a second order). We then shared a mac and cheese which was so delectable with the poached egg. I had the sea bass for my main which was one of the best fish dishes I've ever had.
The vibe is really fun- great music and a good looking crowd. I'm really excited to go back on the weekend for a fun late night dinner."
