Smithfields Restaurant and Bar located in Ashland, Oregon is a neighborhood steakhouse which specializes in sustainable "nose-to-tail" dining (utilizing the whole animal) and in-house charcuterie.
We source our meat, fish, produce, beer and wine from over 20 independent and local suppliers to create our menus.
"I am really glad to have found this excellent spot in Ashland. This is gourmet food with some homey feel to it. The roasted marrow was absolutely to die for. I had the Ling Cod - which was perfect. So well put together with a lovely risotto and micro greens. Well balanced, and perfect portion sized. My husband had the prime rib - lovely with a horseradish mash. The sides were great - a nice garlicy creamed spinach, but not the over cooked glop you get at some steakhouses, but a more stewed style of spinach - very fresh and lovely. The snap peas with preserved lemon were also fantastic. You can tell that real care goes into the food preparation. The extensive whiskey menu was also fantastic. We will definitely be back!"

"We went to this restaurant on the recommendation of a friend. It was Mother's Day so we expected it to be packed but it wasn't. We got a nice window seat and were excited about trying a new place. The menu was interesting. Unfortunately the service was not! We ordered a drink and everytime the bartender made a bloody mary we thought it was ours but it would go elsewhere. We would watch as she left from behind the bar to chat inbetween making drinks. Finally our waiter was standing at the bar chatting with the bartender while she made drinks and my husband got up and told him we were ready to order. He said he was waiting for our drinks! We had to flag him down to get coffee and so on....."

"We ate at a upper corner outdoor table with friends from another city. It was late morning of a beautiful Mother's Day. Couldn't have been nicer other than that they were out of prosecco!"

"I've eaten at Smithfield's three times. Once for dinner, twice for brunch. The service has been quite slow all three times. The first time was not as noticeable because it was dinner, I was with a fun group, and we were drinking beer while waiting for our food. The second and third times I was with my 2-year-old, and the service was ridiculously slow. I'm talking about waiting 40 minutes for a waffle when the restaurant is at 25% capacity. And they made no attempt to bring the kid's food out first, or get us on our way quickly when we were done eating. I'd guess none of the wait staff has kids. This is all well and good - after all, they never said they were a kid's restaurant.
That said, the food and beverages are fantastic."

"Smithfeilds is really nothing all that special, The chicken was bland and over priced. The rare steak was medium and a fatty cut at $28. The sides were nothing to really say anything about. Over all it was an expensive dinner that could have been enjoyed at one of Ashlands many other restaurants."

"Smithfields is now part of our annual Ashland OSF experience. We discovered it last year and enjoyed it. We returned this year and loved it. Their "Developed" dishes are creative culinary treats. I had the Char-grilled hangar steak and my wife the Duck leg confit "cassoulet." both were superb. The wine list allows for a large variety of by-the-glass choices featuring a number of excellent Oregon wines. A dish of heavenly, home-made mint chip ice cream capped it off - and off we went to the theater."

"This is a great eatery serving dishes made from local ingrediants. Both Ala Carte dining and full meals are available. The wine list though limited contains some great local wines though wine pricing is at the high end. There were also several french labels. This is a place to eat meat, that's their speciality, viva the carnavore."

"Superb food with everything possible locally sourced. The chef does his own butchering and makes his own corned beef for the best Ruben I have ever had. Salads and vegetables all have creative, lovely twists. Although meat centric, there are menu items to please every palate. Great selection of whiskeys, artisan beers and fun cocktails with a thoughtful wine list and competent advice available from the staff."

"This was our first time at Smithfields but we had googled the menu and knew pretty much what to expect. We arrived around 7:00pm which tends to be a very busy time due to plays starting at 8pm. We did wait a bit before we received a menu or had our drink order taken. After that, things flowed fairly easily. The bar was empty that night so we made the decision to come back the next night and sit at the bar. We ordered cocktails, your hamburger (by far the best value on your menu),a great glass of wine and Fort George beer. We enjoyed this experience very much. The bar was busy that night which made the atmosphere upbeat. We had a very new bartender and he was delightful."

"Neil's Brekkie was amazing. Ambiance was much more casual than I expected but a welcome surprize. The house made worchestershire is better than any store bought I have ever tried. My only complaint is our hostess didn't know the drink menu. We asked for iced tea and she didn't know they had it. The person I was with pointed it out on the menu. Can't wait to go back for dinner"

"This was my second time at Smithfields, the first, a lucheon, which was quite delectable. My second experience was not quite up to par. Although my friend thoroughly enjoyed her T Bone special, my lamb chops were too dry and a bit too fatty, the vegies were deliscious."

"Took my friend here for her birthday brunch. It wasn't very busy when we arrived but filled up as we ate. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful with menu info and suggestions. My friend had shrimp and grits, with bacon and cheese in the grits. It was very tasty! I ordered the duck leg confit hash with potatoes, poached eggs, and a wonderful stone mustard cream sauce. Oh yeah, and toast with vanilla bean orange marmalade! This is one of the best dishes I think I've ever eaten. It was so flavorful and the combination of ingredients was perfect. We really enjoyed ourselves. We'll definitely go again."

"Great restaurant, casual decor, warm atmosphere, popular with locals and out-of-towners alike. Small menu, but nice choices from appetizers to entrees that included fish, lamb, steak, and chicken. Our meals were well prepared, tasty, large portions. Service was very good, server interested that you enjoyed your dining experience. Definitely will return next time through Ashland. Without our Open Table reservation which got us seatted immediately, we would have had a long wait for a table."

"The meal at Smithfield's was delicious, however, the waitress was not friendly or very good. They seemed to be under staffed for a very full restaurant. The Apple Pan Dowdy was bitter and they were very defensive about our comment. They offered to refund us on the dessert as we were leaving but it too late, too little effort to please customer. Although the food is good, except for the dessert, the experience overall was not pleasant. We will probably not go there again and will not recommend it to anyone."

"We went for my husband's birthday and really enjoyed Smithfields! The steaks were outstanding!!
They grow their own mint in the back yard, and even though it was winter, the waiter was able to make my husband his favorite mojito drink without it! Great service with friendly waiter."
