"The service was attentive and wait staff were friendly. The decor is also hip urban and fun. My tuna was lightly seared but the wasabi paste was just smeared on and wasn't very interesting. Crab tacos were a hit, salads were crisp and nicely dressed, but more attention to the quality of the entrees would be worth the effort. I'd return for drinks and appetizers - the bar looks great."

"Our waiter was wonderful! Our food was awesome.. I had steak sandwich which was a real steak! A lady had the beef dip and it was huge! Great fries!
Only negative is that the manager when we called in our order as we wanted to ensure we could be in and out ...he said normally only do it for groups of 10 or more. I try to understand that as it is easier for everyone and if worried no show take a credit card with order. I would love to come back but not sure how I can if they do not take order as it is a bit of a hike from our office."

"This is our second time at this resturant. Both times my friend ordered a steak sandwich well done and was very specific with the instructions saying absolutely no pink. On both occasions her steak came out Medium. In the latest visit you could see the blood on the top of the steak so it was obvious it was not well done. We will probably visit the resturant again, however my friend said she will not order steak there again."

"Would never go again! I made a reservation for 10 and nothing was perpared for us when we got there. The hostess was going to all 10 of us at a table for 8!!! Our dinner came out at all different times and some was cold and the dishes were wrong etc. Our waitress was apologetic and did try to help where she could. Manager did comp the one meal and bottle of wine that came out late. Was dissapointing over all."

"The food at this restaurant is very good. However, it is not a place I would recommend for quiet conversation. The "pit" is way too loud for casual conversation. "our server, Graham , was excellent. presented the menu perfectly and ensure my wife and i were comfortable. the food was a bit salty and some portions were a bit small, but, overall pretty good. the only low spot was when we were eating dessert and a different server literally threw the bill on my table and the only thing she said was "do you need a machine". i was so put off and upset that we just paid and left. she was the buzz kill and probably why we wont be going back"

"While I have dined here a lot since Chop opened downtown, the food and service was only just okay this time. Not sure why? "We did like the steak bites but our main course was not to desirable. My steak was very chewey and my dates steak was under cooked. I have beean at Chop with GM several times and these last two times have been very disappointing. After bragging how good Chop has been in the past, these two times have been very disappointing. This one was the worst due to the fact the people were advised that I was there for my dates birthday and they forgot! I am not impressed and we will not be supporting Chop. I will recomend when we have a dinner for GM that we will go else where.

"Service was painfully slow. Our drinks had "slush" in them but it had all melted by the time we got them. Food took forever, my steak was over cooked (which the waitress acknowledged) but nothing was done. No one ever came to check on us, had to ask for cutlery. It was a busy Saturday night but really no excuse considering what we paid for the meal. Food was good but that's about it."

"We enjoyed our recent experience at the Chop. Although busy we were checked on by the waiter enough times we felt looked after and knew what was going on. We appreciated this personal touch. I like that you're still using cloth napkins. While I don't normally like a booth they were actually reasonably comfortable. Once we had our meal the waiter continually checked we were okay - his timing was perfect. The Filet Mignon was outstanding."

Server Graham was on the mark with serving time and suggestions, much appreciated. Might suggest making a reservation as this was a Friday and it got very busy as the night went on."

The service was awful.
The waitress rushed us to place our order.
We keep asking for things like drinks, water, cutlery, & bread.
When our appetizer arrived, it was room temp (not even warm).

Everything on both plates was room temperature.
Not even the plates were hot anymore and they always warn you not to touch the plates.

"When I phoned last Wednesday to make a reservation, the voice message said to reserve online, so that's what I did. I received a confirmation email and then on Friday, a reminder email. When we got to the restaurant, they couldn't find the reservation. I booked for 5:30 and we arrived shortly after 5:00. The woman who seated us said we would have to be finished by 6:30 because someone with a reservation would be needing our table.
The food and the service was great. Wasn't impressed with the reservation."

"We really enjoyed the selection offered for Downtown Dining Week - and appreciated the addition of a glass of prosecco to start... The squash soup was delicious and a nice starter. The crab cakes were very tasty. The main courses were presented really nicely - the salmon was perfectly cooked although we found the sauce to be very salty. The short rib was nice, although maybe the sauce was a tad on the bland side (or was I just getting too full?). Both desserts were wonderful. This was our first visit to the restaurant and we enjoyed it although it was a busy place - our waiter, Justin, was especially attentive and made our evening very pleasant."

"We went to Chop Downtown during the Edmonton Restaurant week and had a wonderful evening. It is a bit of a labyrinth with several dinning areas but that turned into part of the charm. The servers were very attentive and we loved the food. Sophisticated and festive atmosphere and decor."

"We enjoyed our visit to Chop, however we would have rated it higher if the children in the restaurant weren't so noisy. They kind of ruined the ambiance for the evening and the private birthday celebration. The all booth seating was a surprise and would have preferred some tables. It was a little uncomfortable having another booth looking right down on to us on the next level as well as right beside us. Also, we ordered water twice and it never arrived.
The large bar is a great place to enjoy a drink or a meal. It has great sight lines and open ceiling with plenty of natural light. Next visit, we will stay in the bar, rather than go up into the restaurant."

"As a new restaurant to the downtown area we need to get the word out - food, wine, and great atmosphere lend to a new great hot spot in Edmonton. The service was also very good. Found the menu to be affordable with culanary delights to be enjoyed by all. Will definitely come back with friends."

"Went on a lunch date with my wife and was very impressed. The steak sandwich and prime dip were both very good. Steak was cooked perfectly as ordered and the cut was good. We sat in the bar area where music is playing so I cannot speak to the main dining area but I do recommend this location for lunch or group gatherings."

"My experience at Chop Downtown was fabulous. We were able to make a reservation through OpenTable and they had our table ready and waiting for us when we arrived. The service was efficient and friendly, even with a full house over the lunch hour. We were celebrating a birthday and the birthday girl was given a free dessert card to use on this visit or a future one with a birthday card, it was a nice touch. I ordered the Chop Salad with Chicken - it was delicious, I am salivating right now as I think about it.
I will definitely be going back.

"Had an wonderful experience at Chop! As this was my first time eating at a Chop, I didn't know what to expect, but was wonderfully surprised! We were celebrating a birthday and they did everything possible to make it a wonderful experience. Our server was stellar, probably one of the best I've ever had and the ambiance is lively, but not noisy or overbearing. Will definitely recommend this place to friends and will eat there again!

"When entering the restaurant on the main floor, there is no desk / person to connect with regarding reservations. The reservation desk is on the upper level in the small part of the restaurant. The problem I experienced is I did find my way upstairs (after asking the bartender specifically about reservations) but the guest I was meeting was told to simply choose a table on the main level. As a result, we both were in the restaurant and waiting for one another without a way to connect."
