"We were a party of 7 professional women out for dinner. Food was fantastic but we had the rudest waitress. She was so rude that we considered putting down a negative tip but since we had a party larger than 6, the tip was already calculated onto the bill. If I go there again, I will refuse to be waited on by her."

"We shared the spring panzanella salad, Contrary to tradition, was more greens than bread but delicious all the same. Two of us had the chicken, one the risotto, and one the black cod. Everyone was happy with those choices. The Crowley chardonnay has a little unexpected taste - in fact, ask for a taste before investing in a glass of it. The creme brulee was nice but had a thicker harden sugar topping than most I've tried, requiring more force to crack into it and more of a sugar jolt than necessary. It was noisy and difficult to hear each other though we had a booth. It added a layer of tension one doesn't need in a dining experience. It's a nice spot, all in all, and I'm glad it's in our neighborhood. I would certainly go there again."

"How I got there: I was told to tell them what kind of wine I would like to try (preference) and then have them pair meats or cheeses to go with that wine.
I didn't quite go that route, but after tasting their cheese selection and charcuterie, I will definitely return to try that!"

"We started with a dozen oysters, which were quite good. For appetizers we had the beet angliotti in a carrot puree and a mixed greet salad. The angliotti is really worth trying. For entrees, we had the lamb dish and the crispy pork; both were superb. They use team service, which can be more difficult, though they really were a good team. We had a very good experience."

"The dinner I had at Bar Avignon was delicious and inventive, with some foods I would never have put together (such as a sweet pea risotto) along with more comforting fare, such as roast chicken. The service was impeccable, the location is great, and the restaurant, while busy, still set us up nicely. The food was very well done and in larger portions than I've come to expect at Portland restaurants, to the point where I couldn't finish my dessert and had leftovers for one of the dishes (for which I am very pleased!)."

"I always love Bar Avignon, if not for their exceptional (albeit, pricey) Oysters, then for their great happy hour options and tasty (primarily local) wine list.
My one concern from this last visit is that the food took quite a long time, but my guess is that it is due to the restaurant not having expected the early-season turnout and therefore understaffing the restaurant. The waitress was very kind but clearly very stressed due to having to wait so many busy tables, and the last dish took a good 20 minutes to arrive.
Otherwise, the night was delicious and enjoyable"

"A true neighborhood gem. Smallish, cozy, casual . Very personable, friendly, warm and inviting with great food, a wonderful place to go to experience fresh quality foods prepared in delicious and distinct ways with expert advice on wine parings. Gourmet done expertly and simply. They serve small plates and full entrees, the menu changes often, the wine list is huge, and the bar drinks are excellent - also a great selection. Desserts are creative, and delicious, and the portion size is right, or try a flight of beautiful sherry or port, a new and wonderful experience for us. The lighting is soft, the noise level is energetic, the background music is well selected by staff, and not loud. We love it."

"How nice to be in a popular restaurant and actually be able to hear the conversation at your table! Our pork chops were thick and flavorful; the mussels had a fresh hint of fennel, and the salmon pate with caper relish a real hit. I was skeptical about a lemon cream brûlée, but it too was delicious. Extensive wine list with several by the glass-and a real 6 oz pour!"

"Food was terrific. Service was fine, but the waitress didn't warm up until we offered a few "thank yous", then she became a bit more friendly.
We enjoy a quiet corner when we go out (hearing loss issue). Although we didn't get one on Valentine's Day (and didn't request one either) it worked out perfectly that there were about three empty tables between us and the next party.
The Valentine's special was ideal for us and reasonably priced."

"Not a great experience. My pork chop was soooo salty. A couple of bites and I could taste nothing but salt in the drippings that flowed over the side dishes. Drink service was slow. When your wait person has to come back to tell you your drink order is in a queue, then something is not working. Noisy and cramped at the shared table. I ended up knowing more about the diners on each side of me than I ever needed to know. (Including he found his pork chop salty and pushed it aside.) One should have a better experience for over $100 for a couple. Won't go there again."

"The oyster selection was fantastic and hopeful for a great meal. A Must is the agnolloti of foie gras - fantastic. However, the rest of our meal was the taste of salt - the sear on the pork and steel head was of pure salt - upsetting secondary to good cut and filets. Lazy preparation and execution."

"This is a really good restaurant. The food is fresh and flavorful. The service is unerringly helpful. I like the small space with open kitchen. I usually start withs ome raw oysters and one of the specialty cocktails. There is an extensive wine list. There are small plates and traditionally sized entrees, which often include unique combinations of ingredients. The desserts are very good. The corn creme brûlée is my favorite. I have made it my practice to dine at Bar Avignon when I visit Portland."

"We've been trying new resturants in PDX this past year and by far this has been the best food we've had.
The service was wonderful and attentive, food was great, steak's were cooked to perfection and the sides were delightful. I have told sevearal already about this find.
We will be back!"

"Dined at Bar Avignon for the first time and quickly understood why the restaurant was packed. Yes, it is fairly small, but the real reason for the full tables and bar was the great food and friendly, attentive service. A fairly limited choice of entrees but still an array to please everyone in our party."
