"Or server was so nice the first 2times at the table; then she got a 6 top. We floundered while our toddler was going nuts. The steak was noted as "strip" steak on the menu i was served skirt. No big deal but I was never given the chance to get it corrected. i would not have said a word because it wasnt a big deal. the eggs were not seasoned and no salt and pepper was on the table. I understand that chefs dont put s&p on tables BUT no one seasoned my food. It Took 3runners to get our order to us as we had to remind each one that we were missing items as they auctioned off our 3tops food. I asked 2 people for a refill on my dusty cup of coffee and was ignored Neil one kind young runner informed me that they were out of coffee. It was 9:15 AM"

"Was really looking forward to the fried chicken, which was fine but nothing special. Good quality chicken it seemed, but not especially flavorful. The pimento cheese spread was surprisingly lacking in flavor. Espresso milkshake was creamy and rich, but needed more espresso flavor. The best thing was the pureed yukon gold potatoes..."

"My wife and I visited Family Meal for our anniversary. We wanted something reasonably priced, but which would be new for us and memorable. Family Meal delivered. My wife was very happy with the mixed drink she ordered (Silk Road). We ordered deviled eggs for an appetizer and the quality reminded me of those my grandmother made. They were excellent. The fried chicken meal was fantastic as was the dish my wife ordered, the mushroom risotto. The chocolate donuts dessert was a terrific choice as well. Service was quick, attentive and friendly. We would definitely return to Family Meal and look forward to doing so soon!"

"Relaxed atmosphere. Friendly staff, but a bit unorganized. Take out order came to table instead of the lunch that was ordered. Had to wait for lunch while others at the table ate. Water refills were prompt. Deviled eggs were outstanding!! Coffee was undrinkable due to sour creamer. Waitress did not charge for the coffee. Duck fat fries were delicious with exceptional sauces. Piece of gristle found in fried chicken salad. Will definitely return for the food."

"Family Meal is casual in appearance, sleek but not cold decor, but the food is anything but casual. Chick pot pie fritters? Light and delicious with all the necessary ingredients - chicken, carrots, peas. The two who had mushroom risotto had smiles that suggested they had gone to foodie heaven. The crispy brussel sprouts had even those who normally wouldn't touch this particular vegetable asking for more. The lemon tart was sublime. We don't live in Frederick but now must figure a way to return."

"There are things to like at Family Meal, but the food and service are not destination worthy. The food is reasonable, but overpriced as a la carte options. The service is friendly, but slow and not overly attentive. Th ingredients are there to succeed, but I was mildly disappointed."

"Great food, great service & great value. What's not to love? Shrimp & grits rivals New Orleans best. Multiple visits are a must because there are so many enticing items I want to try them all. For city dwellers this is a destination restaurant. If there's a James Beard prize for rural eateries this should in its hall of fame."

"I was really excited to go with the entire family. The food was just ok. Duck Fat fries were over cooked and cold. Burgers were over cooked. It was just an "OK" experience. Probably won't ever go back."

"This was my fifth or sixth time at family meal about half of this have been for breakfast. This occasion was for dinner. Made my reservation online a week ahead. Arrives 5 minutes before our time and were seated immediately. As before, the server was friendly and didn't keep us waiting for anything. Our food arrived quickly and was delicious. Fried chicken. My only complaint was the heat from the east street side windows at 5:00 on a 93 degree day was pretty bad. Do not touch the window frames, borderline dangerous. The ac vents overhead didn't help. It was close to the same as outside, so we sweated for our meal. But, we dealt with it. We still enjoyed our meal and will return often. Just not on the sunny side."

"We had a wonderful lunch with excellent service. The pastrami sandwich is huge, the roasted eggplant sandwich was delicious, we thought the fish tacos looked small upon arrival but they were very filling so more would have been too much. A very pleasant group lunch for our boss. One suggestion... could you simply include an entire pickle spear ? Somehow the quarter of a pickle spear cut into two pieces was noted by everyone at the table. Your food is too good to be dampened by the cost of half of a pickle spear.
Our waiter, Zak, was very attentive while not overbearing and was very pleasant. We would ask for him again. All is all... great job, great lunch, good food.... we'll be back."

"I am gluten intolerant and eat 100% Paleo. Family meal is ALWAYS so accommodating and the food is ALWAYS amazing. I have never had a bad meal or bad service. My husband and I really enjoy stopping in for date nights or sunday dinner. I have referred several people to this place and they all say it is WONDERFUL. I consider myself very hard to please and this place does it every time. I also love how everything is locally grown."

"This was my third time dining at Family Meal. The prior experiences were good enough to keep me coming back, all the way from DC. This time was different. Our duck fat fries arrived soggy and at room temperature. We requested that they be exchanged for hot ones, but the replacement order never arrived. We also orderd the risotto, which we've had before and thought was excellent. This time, the risotto was served at room temperature, not at all hot. One member of the party ordered a few side dishes as their meal, and requested a plate on which to eat the sides. The waitress never brought a plate and the individual had to eat the sides directly out of the serving bowls. We also never had our waters refilled. I wouldn't return."

"this is my third time at this restaurant that my husband (his second time) and I like since the food there is very good and the service is very attentive. However, it remains waaay too noisy because there is nothing textured to absorb the clatter of dishes and voices of patrons."

"Disappoined to have been told that two of the three meals we requested were sold out. Our server suggested another dish for our teen and said " oh and we have avocado we can put on it too for you! Sound good? " And then charged us $1.50 for it. The duck fat fried potatoes were great but the rest of the meal was "meh"."

"My wife and I enjoyed our lunch at Family Meal. The food was great: excellent quality, delicious and generous portioning. I liked the sleek renovation of what appears to have been a Waffle House or something. It was lively, with a serious and attentive staff. There were lots of kids and families. Very well done."

"I know that the restaurant is new and still developing and in a part of town that does not get a lot of traffic but it will a good place to go for a good food experience. The staff were great , energetic and young. It hasn't developed it's own ambience yet. The food was great except the potato and leek soup was on the bland side but we will go back to try all the other offering."

"Family of 4 went on Mother's day lunch. They had our reservations and we didn't have to wait. Overall service of waiters and servers were very good. Since this is a Brian Volt owned restaurant you'll pay for the name pretty much. Different and unique foods on the menu, but way over priced IMO. Ordered the Burger for $10 and it didn't come with any sides at all. We ordered some unique fries to SHARE and that ended up costing $6 for a small shared size of Fries. Kids meals were about $6-8 each. Geez... A coke that come out in a classic bottled was $2.50!! Overall the entire lunch meal for 4 (2 adults and 2 Kids) with Desert for 3 was a total of... get this $75!!! Happy Mother's Day. We were still hungry afterwards. Come with $$$"

"Food tasted very good. The service was good. Prices were a little high for Frederick and most menu items used DC type names that most Frederick natives wouldn't understand. Not what I would call a true family restaurant. No bergers or hot dogs and chips for the picky kids. Certainly caters to the yuppy & college croud. I would go again, but not the rest of my family."

"The fried chicken is excellent. There's enough to share. Very popular, I noticed most tables had at least 1 order. We did not care for the Crispy Brussels sprouts with bacon, there was a puddle of oil in the bottom of the dish"

"Having dined at Family Meal twice before, I thought it would be a great place to celebrate with my family. I'd had great service and great food there and had no reason to think it would be any different this time. What made this time so disappointing was the service. Our server could have managed to make us feel less welcome. Anything we asked or asked for came with a mental eye roll. We really enjoyed the food...mostly. The two pasta dishes weren't seasoned/salted enough, while the salt in the field greens was so strong it almost burned our mouths. The drinks were delicious and different, as were the appetizers and sides. The food is the reason to visit this place, but with service this bad I'd rethink making the trip."

"A very entertaining and delicious restaurant in Frederick. They promote themselves to be an upscale diner, but they exceed that. The food shows amazing creativity, top-notch ingredients, and excellent execution. The ambiance is that of a modern diner, but the menu is creative new American. We had the Chicken Pot Pie Fritters, which were delicious and whimsical, my wife has a new favorite hamburger, and I had the Skate which was taken beyond the usual Bistro preparation and given a curry and lentil twist. The cocktails also showed the same creativity and excellence as the food. The wine list was small, but well chosen. I've read some reviews saying the prices are too high, but that wasn't my experience considering the food quality."
