"The food here is absolutely delicious and I love that they have a separate, creative vegetarian menu.
Our server was pleasant, helpful and efficient. We were a table of six and she split the bill for each of us including dividing our shared appetizers by six; we didn't even have to ask. Almost all of us were 30mins to 1 hr late b/c of traffic problems, but we were never pressured to order or rushed out. Gratuity was automatically added to our bill (18%). This is the only thing I wasn't particularly keen on as I'd rather decide how much tip to leave myself."

"This is the third time I have been to this restaurant and am still very impressed with the creative mix of flavors. All four of us ordered different appetizers and main courses - all were good - would recommend the mushroom and asparagus appetizers and the steak and Lind Cod mains."

"My wife and I went to the Woodlot to celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary. We're both vegetarians and had heard that they had a veggie menu that rivalled their meat one. We were NOT disappointed. Every dish was a revelation, focused on letting the ingredients shine. We could not have had a better night, truly, absolutely loved it. We will definitely be going back, highly highly recommended."

"Was blown away in EVERY WAY my 1st visit in May. My most recent visit was different.
Food great, not impressed with service:
Sever not present at the table much; can hear the servers talk about issues, space isn't large and servers are exposed, should take more discretion; drinks took long time to come, and happened to be holding our drinks for almost 5 minutes talking about an issue before giving our drinks; service was friendly, but to be honest, being seasoned in this industry, I was let down with the quality of the service for the beautiful venue, amazing revues. I didn't see that the server cared about the food and I felt more like work than being a guest. Disappointed compared to my 1st visit which was a very different experience."

"Our food was just amazing and our server was very hospitable and knowledgeable about the wine list. She made great suggestion and was attentive. The chef is so talented at combining ingredients and flavours and the technique was perfect.

We honestly have nothing bad to say about the restaurant and would go back soon."

"Our meal was absolutely delicious, the staff was friendly, relaxed and accommodating (thanks for putting a candle on my boyfriend's plate for his birthday!) however the noise was very distracting and made it difficult for us to hold a conversation. "This restaurant has an open concept kitchen and dining area, so noise and aromas fill the interior. The high top table for 8 in front of the kitchen on the ground floor seems ideal for a lively group that enjoys observing the kitchen."

"We went to Woodlot on the recommendation of a friend, and I am so happy to have had a romantic evening there. The rustic loft of the dining hall that overlooks the kitchen mixed with the smell of the wood burning oven made me feel like I was at a cottage getaway.

I had oysters, a squid ink pasta - which was my favorite dish of the evening - followed by a cod on barley. However it was the chocolate cheesecake with homemade marshmallow that I keep dreaming about."

"Not often you find such a fine restaurant as The Woodlot on College. Rather than offering the usual Italian fare The Woodlot's menu ranges from hearty, meat based dishes or their exclusive vegetarian menu that isn't just pasta for once. "We enjoyed Woodlot. A second menu just for vegetarians? Incredible. We felt like 1st class citizens for a change. Everything we sampled was exceptional. The kitchen leans a little hard on the butter so not recommended for vegans but nothing was over-salted so hallelujah for that! Lovely service and no attitude about the fact that we're not drinkers. We left a very healthy tip to make up for it. My only quibble was that the music was TOO LOUD and unnecessarily so, there were only a few diners in the upstairs room and the music was really overpowering."

"Have been here a few times. The food was very good, but the service was lack luster at best. Ordered at about 8:50pm and got our food at 10:30pm. We're pretty patient people, but were very hungry! After the first 2 pieces of bread they gave us, we received nothing for the entire hour. The table next to us actually left before their mains were delivered as they couldn't wait any longer. I also asked one of the staff a question on the drink menu and didn't hear anything back. To be fair, I was told that the restaurant was short staffed that evening. That said, it's happened 2/3 times I've been there now....not sure I can be that unlucky twice. It's unfortunate that such great food and atmosphere be overshadowed by a poor service experience."

"This was my second time at Woodlot and unfortunately, was not as good as my earlier experience. The kitchen took a long time on my second visit (Sunday of a long weekend). We had to wait well over 40 minutes for our entrees after our appetizers. The waitress explained they were "slammed" -- soo busy. Well to me, that is not a valid excuse. We had reservations -- you know how many people to expect and how many you can accommodate. What is the issue? Took us over 2.5 hours to finish our dinner -- and we did not have dessert!

The food is good but this experience makes me hesitant to return for dinner. The upstairs dining area was completely full, hot (stuffy) very noisy -- i could hardly hear my dining companion across from me."

"Come on Woodlot, get a grip! Your squid ink pasta is nearly $30, it's simply ok and your servers don't even know what it is. The Ling Cod was a huge disappointment. The menu has become over priced and no longer resembles what made this restaurant great in the first place. Bring back hearty choices, local pickerel and lower your prices."

"Service was a bit confused. Wrong dishes served to our table at one point. No big deal, merely an observation. We had to ask for our second round of beverages, several minutes after we had finished the first round. Service was friendly and informed, just a little lack luster. Could have been more attentive. The noise level in the room was a bit distracting. Despite these few minor flaws, the food was great and most of the party left satisfied."

"We made reservations at Woodlot for Sunday night at 8 pm. I was looking forward to visiting having read many good reviews, and also seeing that they had a separate vegetarian menu that seemed more creative than your standard pasta options. The service was very good, they were attentive and friendly . Food-wise: the bread was good, but warm bread would have been better. The fire roasted mushrooms with mache salad had great potential but lacked a flavor punch. The French onion soup was just ok; we've tasted better in another place. The gnocchi with sunchoke veloute, fontina and pistachios was richly textured but again lacking in flavor. Glad we just shared an appetizer portion of this dish as we didn't even finish it."

"We had a wonderful time! Excellent food wine and service! Our tattoed hipster servers were fun, friendly and wonderful! We loved the georgian/russian wine! what a delight! and the servers described how it was uniqley made underground ina casket in the earth. Oysters to start were great! The steak was amazing! and pork chop a hard to find was wonderful! Loved the organic original wines, many not found in the lcbo. wonderful venue overall. Great food and atmosphere! Love this place! "I recently invited six friends to The Woodlot for a very special occasion. It was the first time anyone in the group had been at the restaurant and we were all very impressed. We greatly enjoyed a long dinner there.

The server was very accommodating, helpful, and knowledgeable. The rustic/modern setting was engaging. The food was top-notch and in reasonable portions -- prepared by a friendly cook who came out to meet us during the meal and to share recipes. Also, the prix fixe with side plates that kept on coming (including excellent vegetarian options!) was a very good choice for us.

I'd strongly recommend The Woodlot. It has an ideal combination of nuanced food and drink, down-to-earth people, and an intriguing setting."

"Great food, everything we had was amazing: steak, brussel sprouts, gnocchi. Waiter forgot to put in order for 3 appetizers (or the orders got lost in the chaotic kitchen line up), so they were served much later than other appetizers. However - he comp'd the three dishes they screwed off, clearly indicating on the bill at the end of the night. Would go again soon!"

"This was our second visit to Woodlot and it was even better than the first.
I had the ember roasted mushroom salad which has a variety of fresh flavours that just comes together beautifully. I wasn't sure anything could be as good as the mushroom salad, but I was wrong. I had the Celery Root and Lentil entree. Again this dish was bursting with a perfect combination of flavours.
The servers are very accommodating and know their food and products well. They even made us a vegan dessert that wasn't on the menu.
I will definitely be back soon."

"The food was above average however it went down very quickly after that.
Incredibly noisy, one could not have a conversation with the person across from you. The seats were hard wooden chairs, very uncomfortable. The wine list is ridiculously expensive, won't be back. Too bad because food was good just too greedy"

"I love this place. The staff is unassuming, friendly and extremely professional, and the food is excellent: thoughtfully designed and prepared, with inventive combinations that are earthy, tasty and very satisfying. The extent of Woodlot's commitment to vegetarian food (not a mere add-on to a regular menu....) makes it the ideal place to take a range of guests, in this case my sister and her 13 year old son, who are vegetarian. Our server was fantastic, and treated my nephew with ease and respect, as though he were an adult, but also with special asides that made it a memorable evening for him. The server took him aside to pick out a loaf of bread at the end of the night to take home, gratis. Thanks again!"

"I came to Woodlot with 2 friends and everything including the food, service and atmosphere was fantastic. The owner of the restaurant was out serving guests as well, was super friendly, humble and and took a lot of pride in his work, explaining the preparations to us. The food was intricate and decadent without being pretentious. This will definitely be a restaurant we come back to!"
