Dedicated to food, drink, design, and community. Workshop Kitchen + Bar is Palm Spring's newest gem in the heart of the Uptown Design District.
Located in the Class 1 Historic El Paseo building from 1926, Workshop’s Industrial chic interior gives the historic space a contemporary edge befitting the locale.
Our kitchen is based around seasonal products from local farms, so the menu changes often. Although "Americana" may best describe the style of our food, influences are many. Favorite techniques in the kitchen include our wood-fired pizza oven, wood-fired grill, and custom sous-vide station.
The bar looks mostly to American classics and carefully homemade basics. Original cocktails vary with the market's availability and our bartender's mood.

"There is no restaurant in the desert that best typifies the merging of design, style and excellent cuisine as does Workshop. Service is superb, friendly and unpretentious. The freshness of the food welcome. And the redesign of the interiors are stunning in its simplicity. I have been to the restaurant twice and both experiences left a wonderful impression. This place is a keeper. I hope they find a strategy to keep customers coming as do other successful places like Lulu's, Trio, etc."

"I love the decor..so elegant in a minimalist way. The lighting is perfect and the food is wonderful. We started with their popular cocktail the Palms Springer, then ordered all kinds of great dishes, English peas, tomato soup with feta, the quinoa and swordfish. All were perfect and the service was outstanding. I do prefer to sit inside in a booth, request one when reserving...otherwise it is a large communal table or outside. Outside is ok,..but people are walking by your table to enter and leave the restaurant."

"I want to preface this review with the fact that I am a server at a Michelin star restaurant so I know and understand deeply the difference between great, solid, adequate, and bad
Workshop was BAD. I truly have never experienced so many service/management errors in my years of dining. I could go into details but feel that would be too wordy and far to involved. So many things were off that it would take more time then I care to extend as I already wasted over two hours of my life sitting in this restaurant. If management cares to hear of my experience they can contact me for the run down. You, as a prospective diner, only needs to be prepared for a pretty awkward and less then adequate meal.

"The entrance is very difficult to find, there is no distinguishing sign or mark near the front door to indicate it as the main entrance. We were seated on the patio, sitting there, we saw that every guest who arrived had as much difficulty distinguishing where the entrance was as we did. We had a fairly early reservation, 630pm, and were one of the only two tables in the patio for a good hour. Our cocktails took over 15 minutes to get to our table. Our second drink orders took just as long as the first if not longer. We definitely would have had more than two drinks a piece had our service been quicker. The food was good, nothing mind blowing. We had numerous other minor lapses in service that when added up outnumbered the good."

"The food is very good. The space has a cold, New York feel to it: concrete bunker, concrete community table, uncomfortable metal chairs or stools with no backs, high arched church-like ceilings. More importantly the main issue was that the service was lousy; the waiter was nice guy/pleasant but it took forever to get anything, drinks, food delivered. Plus, there was no follow-up by the waiter to check to see how everything was. The type of folks that might like this place would be the young Los Angeles hipster crowd; I think the vast majority of others would pass. Regardless how good the food was and whatever the price point, if the service is lousy I will not return."

"...to the largely quality starved Palm Springs dining community! We had some delicious baked peas and an asparagus/morel appetizer, accompanied by a lovely Red Car Rose. Then my companion had a nice mustard rubbed chicken half and I had an expertly sauteed scallop dish - perfectly seared on the outside and yet lightly cooked on the inside - with a black squid ink risotto. For dessert we had a flourless chocolate cake and a bread pudding which were fine if not up to the quality of the main courses. We ate outside in the courtyard which was quiet, attractive and comfortable. Service was excellent - interior design inside the restaurant is gorgeous. I can definitely recommend this experience."

"I've been to Workshop Kitchen twice now and am a little underwhelmed. Good food, but not great. The service is good, but it's a tad bit pretentious. By far the best things on the menu is the pizza and the lemon tart with beet sorbet. The atmosphere is lovely, but the lights in the booth are right at eye level and it bothered my friend & me to have light bulbs with no shades hanging at eye level."

"The Workshop Kitchen & Bar is a well run restaurant with the owner on the premises and an interesting, if eclectic, menu. The lentil and goat cheese small plate was excellent, while the Caesar salad with nettle dressing was just average and the coin asparagus and lobster bowl was bland and uninteresting. The steak entree was exceptional, as were the scallops. The pizza of the day on a flat bread crust was a bit dry and merely okay. Desert highlights included the bread pudding with cardamom ice cream, perhaps the best I've ever tasted, and the blood orange sorbet, also quite delicious. Over all, the food is imaginative and the service friendly. The prices seemed reasonable for the quality of the food."

"This is the third time eating at Workshop. The food is very good, original and fresh, however, it never fails how the service is so mediocre... I don't think it's unreasonable to see someone within the first 5 to 10 minutes to at least get water on the table. There are so many wait staff and runners whizzing about, the scene is just shy of chaotic. It was a Monday night at 7pm, really..."

"had to return the pate as it was bitter - an indication that something wasn't right. Bread was stale, olive oil/balsamic dish was flavorless. Pizza was okay, asparagus was quite good. wine was good and priced well. but the prices overall were a bit high for what it was. good try with the decor."

"Interesting design and space. Very avant garde & chic. Has a bit of attitude but with a friendly touch & they seem to be able to back it up. Food was extremely well prepared. Especially enjoyed the english peas & crispy local goat cheese. The soup of the evening was cream of cauliflower and it was superb. The swordfish entree revealed a nice twist with the artichoke & bulgar salad & mint. Chicken Diavolo seemed a bit dry that night but still held its own with the tasty forbidden rice. Enjoyed that the manager came over to check in on us and assist us with another glass of wine!!

"Having eaten here at least 4 times by now, I am often struggling to find something that I REALLY want to eat on the menu, so usually ordering several small plates to split between a group works well. The food is fresh, well prepared, presented and meets expectations, but I would not say it exceeds them. I, and those dining with me found our server " odd" and awkward, oftentimes lingering too long at our table, and seeming " out of sorts", but the food was delivered hot and promptly. We have found the servers to have an awkward "table side" manner on every visit, Overall, a good dining experience, the courtyard is especially nice, as you get more of a sense of the Palm Springs ambience there than inside the restaurant."

"Love this place. On the ambiance, you either like it or not. We like it a lot. The food is inventive, creative, fresh, well prepared and well presented. The servers are terrific. They are adults who are knowledgable about the menu, but with no attitude at all. Wonderful and rare combination. Would recommend it to anyone."

"Trying to be a "sophisticated" restaurant at NYC prices and failing miserably - some of the menu items were very tasty and the "hand crafted" cocktails were a kick and reasonably priced. Service was at best indifferent and often patronizing with that "how are we all doing tonight?" kind of nonsense that just annoyed us. They need to get their air conditioning going as it was quite warm inside and this is only mid April! Wait til summer in Palm Springs folks..."

"Delicious food -- even foodie-worthy, which seems to be in short supply in the Palm Springs area. Was visiting from San Francisco, and will be back next time I'm in town. Super cool, chic ambiance as well. For those looking for a quiet spot this may not be it though -- lots of concrete and glass here that echos sound. Still, a great find and well worth checking out!"

"I was prepared for a great evening and excited to show family this new restaurant. Service was slow and from being seated to signing the check it took 2 hours. Hamburger was delicious and portions were good. Martini was not made as I hoped, but waiter took care of it By bringing a bit more vodka in a chilled glass which was a nice touch. Unfortunately the 2 hours really put a damper on the evening. I won't be rushing back anytime soon unless I hear that the service improves. There seemed to be large gaps of time between placing orders and being checked on."

"A very interesting space, most people sit at a "communal table". Ask for a booth if thats what you want. The chairs at the communal have no back, so if that bothers you- ask for a chair or booth. Interesting cocktail list, along w/wines & beers. We arrived about 6:30. still wasn't full, but by 7pm packed. They have ourdoor seating, which will be nice going into spring/summer. Foor very interesting, many to share. Space is long & narrow, & the booths/tables are poured concrete. Noise level can get a bit loud. Not a good place for kids/babies. Food was delicious-can't wait to go back. Parking is on the street, or behind building. I think you will enjoy,"

"Menu was outstanding & the food (served) was delicious. But our Server was the worst in history! He didn't bother to discuss the menu & when we inquired about items he gave short, unclear answers. Our salad arrived 1-hour after our appetizer & 30-seconds before our entrees arrived. We immediately ordered dessert to ensure we received them w/in a reasonable amount of time. 30 minutes later our waiter clearly forgot this, as he asked if we'd like to "order dessert". When we reminded him that we had already given him our dessert order he abruptly turned away and headed to the kitchen w/out apology. We expected to see him return w/our dessert, instead he went MIA for 30 mins more. Check please! Beautiful venue but wouldn't return."

"Great place to spot celebs in Palm Springs. The highlights of our meal were the roasted brie and cauliflower and the braised lamb shoulder. We had the shaved brussel sprout salad - that was a bit disappointing and not too exciting. Also had the daily market pizza - that was good, but it's pizza - not really all that challenging to make a good pizza. The food was definitely fresh farm-to-table fare, but I'd say the dishes were hit or miss in terms of textures and flavors. Definitely a great place for the scene itself though."

"we had a great meal here. The food was delicious and the service excellent. My biggest criticism is the only reservation available all weekend long was at 5:00 on Friday. We took that reservation. When we got there the restaurant was empty. When we left at 7 the restaurant was still mostly empty. Their reservation system seems significantly flawed."

"What a great addition to the Palm Springs dining scene! The food was phenomenal, but the waiter was a bit too chatty and not very helpful (he listed most of the menu when we asked for recommendations), and then disappeared for the entire meal(we needed refills on our drinks)."
