The Breakwater - Kingfisher Oceanside Resort and Spa
"The Breakwater" name speaks to the heritage of our setting; the original breakwater was formed to calm Comox Harbour so loggers could form their bounty into booms for tugs to transport. Just up the shoreline, several ships were scuttled to create a breakwater. Today, those silent hulls serve as an iconic reminder of the perils that faced coastal pioneers. "The Breakwater" speaks of the restaurant's proximity to the ocean, as well as the rich history of the Comox Valley. "The Service and Ambiance:
Our expectations for dinner were not only met, but exceeded! We felt like VIP's and our time at the Breakwater truly made our time at the hotel that much better! Tastefully decorated with artwork in black and white, beautiful lighting, and music though not too loud. A wonderful balance and breath taking view really make this restaurant something to enjoy.

The menu:
Don't expect a cluttered menu full of mediocre entrees, but instead a handful of carefully selected entrees that has something for anyone. We savored every bite. My husband ordered the spring salmon that had been caught fresh that morning and it came beautifully prepared with an amazing crab salad on top. And the veggies were to die for!"

"This was our first visit to the Breakwater and we were delighted to find such a gem close by.
The view is incredible, the resort gardens are spectacular and the whole ambiance was perfect.
The only thing that marred the effect was the fact that there was a large and quite noisy table of ladies enjoying themselves close to our table which rather spoiled the effect of such a nice, intimate place to eat.
However, this was more than made up for by the very attentive service, the delicious food and the excellent wine we chose.
This chef really knows how to prepare and cook fish.
The salmon was mouth-watering and the halibut special equally delicious.
Portions are large so come with a healthy appetite.
Highly recommended by my husband an"

"The view here is always the best, no matter what the weather. It is a very relaxing atmosphere. This is my fourth time here, and the food is always very good. The smaller portion options for brunch/breakfast works well, and the food is always tasty, well presented and timely. The service each time has been excellent as well."

"Great restaurant and location. Food was very nice and lots of west coast food dishes. Not crazy about the Squid Ink Pasta nor the Tuna dish as neither had much flavor at all. However the steak was fabulous and the Double Pork Chop was awesome! The deserts on the menu need some work. Lacking flavour on the Pinapple upside down cake. The coconut cream was basically un tastable. The Lavender Ice cream was very nice."

"I was very disappointed when we arrived at the restaurant as the menu on the restaurant's website was drasticallly different from the menu at the restaurant. Being a non-seafood eating guest the menu at the restaurant was very limited. As there was only chicken breast, pork chop or a rib eye steak to chose from I chose the steak even though it came with a very small amount of crab legs (which I gave to my daughter). It definately was not worth the $34. The steak was very grissly and was tough. My daughters both had the boilliabase and enjoyed their entres. We have dined at the restaurant on a number of occasions in the past and always enjoyed our dining experience so I was very disappointed this time around."

"(this is continued from my private note to restaurant below) I visit the Spa in May. I hav been coming to the Kingfisher for a retreat with friends for 10 years and I remember drooling over the menu for the first 7 years or so and then the last few years I have been disappointed. I love that you serve local organic food and am willing to pay extra for it but I so disappointed in the number of dishes that are available. Please consider adding more selection and some not so fancy food."

"The service was good and most of the dishes ordered we above average. The only slip was the Firecracker dish which was overcooked and when I mentioned it they comped us a free dessert which was outstanding - house made ice cream and fresh donuts."
