gastropub: gástrō pùb noun Brit. a British term for a public house that specializes in serving high-quality food.
Located in the heart of Old Pasadena, Haven features a menu of reinvented European classics with an American twist and unique craft beers from its on-site brewery and Brewmaster David Larsen.
Executive Chef Greg Daniels' menu showcases adventurous dishes featuring farmer's market specials, house-made charcuterie, flatbreads, and entrées inspired by California local bounty.
Haven's extensive beverage program changes weekly and offers 42 local and international craft beers on tap and over 100 in the bottle, as well as a curated global wine list and pre-Prohibition era cocktails. Included among their unrivaled selection of craft beers, they produce their own uniquely crafted brews on-site, featuring year-round favorites as well as small-batch seasonal offerings in a rotating selection of styles.
"This place was fine for my infant and 4 year old as we sat near the quiet back. The restaurant has sport programed tv's but that was ok for me, a tv starved parent, makeing the most of a family night out for Mother's day. The food was just great. Mac and cheeze for my girl, braised pork, Hungarian goolash stew and an arugula salad, had us all sharing plates. And then there is beer, on tap, lots of them. :) Park in the public lot off Fair Oaks though as the one directly across from the restuarant has a line a mile long at nights."

"The meal was very good. However the service was not. There seemed to be little consideration to who ordered what when the food arrived. Our waiter was MIA for most of the meal especially when we were waiting for what seemed like half hour for the check. When we flagged another server down ,we inquired about our waiter. We were told" he was on break" . We were never handed over to another server? We won't recommend this establishment. Unfortunate since the food was pretty good."

"A relaxing atmosphere reminiscent of an upscale London Pub - Don't look for a lot of variety on the menu - enjoy an amazing selection of Beer and Wine - order some delicious starters and bring some friends."

"I have been to both of their locations, and I have never had a bad meal or experience at either of them. Keri, our server, helped us make our dinner selections, and everything she suggested was spectacular."

"Excellent service and great new menu items! The hostess and our waitress were very friendly and attentive. I couldn't have been happier with the quality of the food and service. I especially enjoyed the truffle fries and spaghetti squash. I was also very happy with our off menu cocktails (they have a full bar in addition to an extensive beer list). Even though it was busy, they honored our reservation request for a booth and we were very pleased with their top notch service.
Would definitely recommend Haven and are looking forward to our next visit!"

"Wow...what a pleasant surprise. I went online to look for a reasonably priced restaurant in Pasadena. That's not easy to find. The menu is original and the food is brilliantly prepared. Our server was very knowledgable and helpful. Everything we ordered was amazing, lamb shank, Monterey burger with a glaze that is to die for, truffle oil fries, homemade potato chips. I liked it so much I went again the next night with a friend."

"I went here with 4 other friends. It was a fun night overall, but the service was disappointing. There seemed to be a "shift change" going on and there was confusion as to which server was helping us. The one that spent the most time with us was very engaging, fun and helpful, but due to the confusion, getting her (or anyone) to our table was not easy. And, at one point, she and the guy that was supposed to be our server told us they saw our food being plated and then we waited another 10 minutes to receive it. So, not great. But, the food was very good, though it's one of those places that doesn't allow for substitutions or even removals of any items. We all got burgers which were really good and don't miss the donuts."

"I have been here three times now and always hope that the service will improve - it does not. It tool the hostess an eternity to seat my party and the one before us. We sat there for 10 minutes before we were approached - and that was by the manager, not our server. He wanted to know if we had been helped.
We gave him our drink order and it took another 15 minutes to get our drinks - there could not have been more than 15 tables seated in the entire place, so they weren't busy.
Server not alter one of the burgers for a dietary issue - got the "this is not Burger King" line. Will NOT be returning."

"The food was just ok. The lamb shank was over cooked. It's falling off the bone all right, but the flavors are all gone. Very disappointed about that. Also, there is no price for the special item written on the board. We ordered a beef pot pie but we didn't ask for price... it ended up showing up on our bill for $20. Everything is too expensive for what you get. 5-6 fried doughnut dessert will set you back at $12. Outrageous. I personally will not be back. There are better choices in old town Pasadena."

"Great cocktails. Unique and extensive beer selection. Interesting wines. Food is really good. Pork jam yum. Best grits in LA served with bacon wrapped shrimp. Lamb burger is a have to have. Cookies and milk or fresh doughnuts for dessert."

"Went back for the french onion soup on a very cold evening. We had a little bit of everything instead of an entree. The Macaroni and Cheese was very good. The Truffle Fries disappeared quickly. Though my husband and I LOVE brussel sprouts, theirs were not that great. They were a little harder than I like and they were served with prosciutto (yum) and lemon juice. Even for my husband who loves lemon juice there was a little much on those sprouts. Had the donuts for desert, they were yummy!
Service was good. Not as great as last time but I can't complain whatsoever. They were great at seating us promptly even though we arrived more than 15 minutes before our reservation.
We will absolutely go back."

"I didn't enjoy this place only because of the hosting staff. We were given a small table for our party of 4 instead of a booth, despite the fact that there was a booth open next to the table we were seated at. A table of two was seated maybe 3 minutes later at that same booth that was open. Despite coming for dineLA, we looked at the regular menu and figured it would actually be more worth it to get something off of the regular menu. Food wasn't consistent: ordered three burgers medium, one came out rare and the others well. Other than that, nothing much to say. Nothing spectacular nor horrible, but really just not worth it."

"I have walked by Haven many times and never entered. I must confess that after seeing the establishments who came and went since they closed Jerry's Deli, which was at the same spot, I didn't have high hopes.
I tried Haven because I wanted to check out their dinner menu from DineLA. I must say that everything was very good and I was really surprised. The food was prepared well and I could tell that they were really proud of their menu. I like how my waitress made recommendations for the beers and explain the different dishes and preparations. I really like service where the staff knows their stuff because it adds to the restaurant experience. Big bonus is that I learned that they stayed open later than other places in Old town."

"Just had dinner there for dineLA and we will be going back. We had the french onion soup to start and it was wonderful. They add one of their beers to the soup and which made it very smooth. We both finished every spoonful. I had the Braised Bone In Short Rib, my husband had the lamb burger. We both loved our food. My short rib literally fell off the bone. It was tender and flavorful. My husband's lamb burger was wonderful (I had to try a bite). If you like your burger anything other than medium rare tell your sever because their medium rare is on the rare side of medium. For dessert I had the house donuts. It is covered in some sugar and comes with a side of warm nutella and a Jameson Caramel-type sauce. Yummy! Service was excellent"

"Went during dineLA. The menu was nice and pretty cheap. You can only get 2 of the 3 though which is alright since the amount of food is gargantuan, especially if you get the Haven burger. Don't miss the desserts! I like Haven for the beer flights...there's a good amount of everything "different". Lunch is a good time to go because there's not really a lot of people. The Pasadena location is so much better than the Orange one because it's a lot bigger so I wouldn't imagine the wait for a table to be more than 45 minutes at any given time. I don't know if Open Table clipped off my request or if they just ignored it because we went for my boyfriend's birthday and not even one person wished him a Happy Birthday."

"The food was superb! We went for the dineLA dinner menu, but the items are on their regular menu too. Excellent French onion soup. Superior deviled eggs. Falling off the bone short rib. Butterscotch pot de creme - nirvana. Excellent service. Very comfortable room for the bar scene. Nice dining area for the overflow. There's a walled off meeting room for about 12. Wifi with password. I would definitely go again because the food was so good and the staff so friendly. They're open 11 am to 2 am."

"Although I wouldn't consider this place to be the ultimate gastropub, they do pride themselves for serving one of the best burger and wide selection of home brewed beer. Overall, food was good but what made our dining experience worth going back for was the service. No amount of great food can replace an exceptional service."

"It was 75% empty but service was slow. Forgot our beer orders, twice. Beer was not very good. Food was way too salty and lacked good flavor. Mustard and stains all over the menus and chip crumbs all over the seats. Overall, fail in every category."

"Excellent....Excellent....Excellent. Haven Gastropub is just what is proports to be. They are a great neighborhood place with a highly impressive secltion of food and beer along with some great wines. I don't usually drink beer but with pub food, it is almost required. Their selection provided something for everyone, whether you always drink beer or almost never. There was one that I would certainly agree with the staff that was a desert beer. I have never had anyting like that before. Definately a keeper and will return often."

"We visited Haven Gastropub during the LA Restaurant week 2013 and had a lunch there. My wife had a flatbread mozzarella and I had a Haven Burger. Both dishes were delicious, especially the burger which had blue cheese or gorgonzola. A really gourmet burger :)"

"Most of what we ordered for lunch was really good. But the Lamb burger was incredible!! If you like lamb, you have to try it. Service was not great. Everyone very nice, though. They appeared to be disorganized that day. They said it was the first day of Dine LA and it threw them off both in number of patrons and in the menu. It showed!! If it was not for the food, not sure I'd go back. But I would go back, good service or not, just for that lamb burger!!"
