"We went for Fathers Day Brunch. I had the Bakersfield version of Steak and Eggs, the steak was cooked to perfection (rare thank you). The Hazelnut Chocolate Cheese Cake a must! Oh and the Bloody Marys were great"

"Bakersfield is a beautfiul restaurant with warm, welcoming ambiance. The food was good, although not exceptional. The bartender was awful. How difficult is a lemon drop martini? It had no flavor and very little vodka. Is it difficult to remember to include an olive, when one is requested, in a vodka martini? The service from our dinner server was outstanding. The reason for the "good" rating, however, was an offset by the woman who sat us at the table. She was entirely inattentive and answered no questions except with a "no problem," which didn't relate to the inquiries. I doubt I'll return."

"I went to Bakersfield for steak and was disappointed. Everything was excellent except the steak. I had the Cowboy Ribeye and it was tender and done properly but it was bland - very little flavor. I would rate it as the second worst "good restaurant" steak I have ever had."

"We are regular customers at Bakersfield and generally enjoy the atmosphere and food- however, we took a friend last night who looked a long time at the chardonnay by the bottle selections- $58 was the lowest price offered. When we questioned the waitress she came back and told us that they normally offer a bottle of chardonnay for $48 but it was out of stock.
After reporting our disappointment at not finding a reasonable bottle of wine we left. On a Monday night we hoped to find a bottle of nice chardonnay under $40.
I usually drink a martini so I was not aware of this problem- Nice to have a haunt on Ogden Avenue in Westmont, but seems they need to add reasonable bottles of wine. Hope to hear the management adds to the selection!"

"The food is so expensive for what it is. The portion size for the pasta my son ordered was ridiculous. Pasta is so cheap. Why not give more than a few forkfuls. The hamachi appetizer was also so small and there's nothing to it. They add tasteless "decorations" to make it look like it's special. It's NOT! Too bad, cause the atmosphere and patio are so nice. Need to do more with the food and price it for the location. Ogden Avenue...Not River North!!"

"We had a carnivore, vegan and all in between dining at our table. They could accommodate everyone. The bar area and patio are wonderful places for activity and the booth have high enough backs that you can be incredibly private. Something for everyone!"

"Food and service was very good. We both had steaks which were perfectly prepared. The side dishes were also quite good and sufficient portions. The side salad was great and they upgraded to a caesar which was nice. My husband drinks single malt scotch and there were 5 to choose from. He tried one he was not familiar with that was recommended by the waiter. He did not like it as well as McCallan. They were happy to switch it out for him. He had requested the scotch be served cold without diluting with ice and they did that well. His only complant was that the scotch was served in a martini glass instead of a small tumbler."

"We were very disappointed to find that all of our favorites had been removed from the menu - crabcake salad, Asian beef salad, mini filet sandwiches for a few. We also enjoyed going to the restaurant on Sunday afternoons for a light lunch and a glass of wine. The offerings have been changed to a brunch until 3:00 p.m. Non of this is to our liking, so we will probably not be going back to Bakersfield. It seems that the owners have made their restaurant quite different from what we enjoyed since it opened. We are sorry that these changes have been made because we really enjoyed the restaurant and it's offerings previously....Also, the service was less than the usual congenial atmosphere that we had previously experienced."

"Caved in to the LED sign adverstising their "UMAMI Burger", a grass fed burger, served with roasted tomato and shiitake marmalde (which went totally undetected by my taste buds). It was good, but uneventful. Perctly cooked "medium", but the roasted tomato didn't really do it any favors. My friends "knife and fork fried chicken" on the other hand was enough to bring tears to the eyes of even the most devout Southerner! Perfectly seasoned, dark crunchy crust clinging nicely to moist succulent chicken. It paired remarkably well with a bourbon beer they had on tap.
Our server, a very attentive man with perfect timing, said more with his reaction to our choices than most servers verbalize. Great service, and perfect timing!"

"My signifcant other chose Bakersfield because she had been there before for lunches. The decor is trendy. The staff is smartly dressed. The ambience leans to the romantic but the noise level of the restaurant steals from that. We were seated at a table not a booth (as requested) so my interpretation of the noise level may change the next time we are there.
Maggie, our server, was very good. She was attentive, polite, knowledgable and great to talk to. She was busy but that did not take away from her service. You would be fortunate to have her as your server.
The food was very good. I had the roasted chicken. She had the salmon. We also tried the sashimi appetizer which was very good as well.
We will be back :)"

"We have been to Bakersfield over 10 times. We loved the Really Good House Salad with honey mustard dressing, the Taco Trio appetizer and the chicken sandwich. They just introduced a new menu and all of these items were removed!! The replacement salad is small and nasty and the new items are over priced and not good."

"Bakersfield has become our go to place. The atmosphere is warm, yet modern. The bar looks out over the patio and is a fun spot to relax with a cocktail. Generally we have found that the atmosphere is laid back giving excellent opportunity to enjoy a date or special occasion. The patio is also a great summer lunch spot.
As for the food, their steaks are some of the best I've ever had and I'm a Texas girl where beef is king and my dad was a butcher so I had steak multiple times a week growing up. And the steaks here are awesome! Perfectly prepared.
The new menu needs some tweaking, but the salad choices are fresh and tasty.
The Thursday $6 cocktails are a nice mid week bit of fun! And don't forget to try the desserts - chocolate wins!"

"Very nice modern & clean restaurant with booths, tables, several bar areas & outdoor patio seating. We both had the Knuckle Sandwich (lobster sandwich) which came with your choice of a side. We both had the side salad with champagne vinegarette. The food was good but I wish the lobster had more seasoning (maybe some Old Bay) or some celery for crunch. The side salad had too much cracked pepper. The service was great. I will definitely be back to give this place another try."

"Overall it was a pleasant experience, but the food was just could not match the price. It was really expensive for what I would say was just an average tasting and display of food. It was 7:15 on Saturday night and we asked if they had fruit for the kids' meal and the server said that they did not since they were all out. Ok I get that, but remember this restaurant is affiliated with the Standard Market which is immediately across the street which is open and has lost of fruits.
I did like the Bar area and that seemed really nice.
Overall all, I really doubt that I will go back for dinner, maybe for a drink."

"This one of a number of west suburban American cuisine restaurants that appeal to foodies, e.g., White Chocolate Grill, Glen Prairie, Cooper Hawk, Seasons 52, etc. This was our second visit for dinner and they were packed. Service is only adequate (our server seemed to be overwhelmed), the menu selections are typical and their food is good -- but everything is about 25% overpriced. If you are getting $14.00 for a glass of chardonnay and $32.00 for short ribs, you had better stand out from the competition -- and they don't. Our check for dinner for two was nearly $100 with tip (one app, two entrees and one glass of wine.) For that money in the suburbs, Bakersfield in underwhelming and overpriced."

"The menu has changed since the last time we were there and it seems that the way they are preparing the items has also changed. The guacamole we ordered seemed to be loaded with mayo. Additionally, we ordered the finger fried chicken which we have ordered in the past and the preparation was very different this time. The skin was greasy and difficult to chew. However, the service was excellent and the outdoor patio is very pleasant."

The chef/restaurant is trying a new menu, several favorites are "gone" - original fried chicken recipe, crab salad, bar-b-que ribs to name a few. Happy to see they kept the Knuckle Sandwich.
The Berkshire Pork chop dinner was delicious and very generous, short ribs were not as tender or tasty as described, bacon wrapped dates were delicious, and salad with apples/nuts/pomegranate seeds was creative and tasty.
Love that they are basically organic and a made from scratch kitchen.
We've been to Bakersfield several times (lunch and Brunch), not sure we would go back on the weekend.

"We were very disappointed with the new menu. The vegetarian platter was no longer on the menu and that was my, and all of my friends', favorite. The new menu is very strange. A lot of the dishes are "artistic" and just don't go with some of the other dishes (pretzel bread with beer cheese dip.) The salads and desserts have all changed too."

"Normally do not post negatives about a place but should have done my homework. Usually trust yelp for reviews and we didn't look first. Food was ok but seasoning was lacking. Had the umami burger and was again ok. Only highlight was the crispy Brussels sprouts"

"Bakersfield used to be one of my favorite restaurants in the Western Suburbs. Recently, new management made changes to the menu and the results are disappointing. The menu still seems to be appealing, but none of the food that we had was very good. It was similar at the table across from us. Our waitress indicated that there have been a ton of complaints about the new menu."

"This was our first time at Bakersfield. The four of us went for mothers day dinner. The restaurant was busy but not overly so...$50 steaks keeps demand down - something we've enjoyed other places. Our waiter never greeted me. He was annoyed when we told him we needed a couple of minutes to look at the menu. He was more annoyed when we told him we a couple of minutes to pick out our drinks. My son uses a hearing aid and needed to adjust to hear the waiter, and the waiter left the table while he was tweaking it. He kept interaction with us the rest of the evening below any acceptable level. I left a $30 tip - which given the bill was an undertip - it occurred to me later he might not notice; we've never been there before."

"Menu for the special Mother's Day Brunch was versatile and interesting. Service as always was very good except for a small misunderstanding about a side item that was supposed to be included in the meal but was an extra charge. When brought to the attention of the waitstaff, it was corrected on the bill. The food was delicious, attractively presented and adequate portions. Love this restaurant!"

"We went to Bakersfield for Mother's Day and were quite disappointed. We'd been there before and chose it because of the vegetarian plate and other healthful options. This menu - coming into spring and summer, mind you - was HEAVY and dull. No veggie plate, and the two non-meat salads were uninspired. The one I ordered was basically lettuce and pieces of cheese - that's it. Plus the dressing. Breads used to be better, too - now a pretzel roll and a brioche (both dry). A large percentage of the appetizers are bread-based - two slider options, bruschetta, flatbread, etc. My dining companions' dinner choices looked fine, but both said they had a weird taste - the salmon ("weird, and also boring") and the umami burger (trying way too hard)."

"We were here one time previous and truly enjoyed the food, atmosphere, and service but didn't have a consistent experience this time around. The KNIFE & FORK FRIED CHICKEN was juicy, had a nice crunch, but seemed lacking in seasoning. The service although friendly seemed inattentive. Perhaps they've gotten too high on their success and are starting to forget what got them there."

"This was the our 2nd time at the restaurant. We went for a Mother's Day dinner. Food was outstanding again. Our service, though, was a disappointment. The sides we ordered were delivered 10+ minutes after our meal. They were served fresh off the grill, piping hot, so it was obvious to us that they were forgotten from the start. A mistake is ok, but not a word was mentioned to us by the server."

"....but I'm not sure about their new menu. I had a hard time finding something for lunch. Got the chicken Cobb salad. It did not say it was deconstructed on the menu. It was a small pile of beautiful lettuce next to an enormous, bland chicken breast, a clump of sun dried tomatoes, a few pieces of avocado and some chunks of amazing bacon and a hard boiled egg. Definitely highs and lows....I didn't love it. My friend loved the trout. Her $9 bowl of soup looked good, too. I will go back because I love the ambience but I will have to look closely at the menu and ask questions before ordering."

"We wanted really fresh and creative food for our Anniversary dinner. It is visually beautiful. All the decor was perfect and the seats were very comfortable. The salad I ordered was beautiful and the best Champagne Vinaigrette I have ever tasted. The vegetables explode in your mouth with flavor. Our dinners were beautifully presented, mine was bacon wrapped grilled shrimp & my husband had seared tuna. His was excellent, Mine was also excellent and had a crust of bacon wrapped around prawn sized shrimp...both delicious. To finish it off, we had to try the fried oreos and vanilla bean ice cream....no disappointment there, either. We loved this place & have no reservations recommending you go."

"Sat night with a reservation we waited 40 mins to sit. Then after no one came to the table for 20 minutes, we went to the hostess and complained. The restaurant did give us a free round of drinks but still the service wasn't good. (had to ask for water twice). The restaurant was very busy and they sat us near the bar area and forgot about us. Poorly managed? The food came quickly and was good, but not sure if it was good enough to justify the price and the service. The outdoor area looked interesting. We probably just hit it at a bad time, because it was crowded and everyone else seemed happy to be there. I probably won't go back. For the price, I would expect a more relaxing environment. Thx."

"My party arrived at the front desk and stood for a good 3 minutes without being acknowledged, while two staff were talking to one another and staring at the reservations. Wit no eye contact being made and feeling extremely awkward, I initiated a "Good evening - how are you?". Looking perturbed, the two glared at me as I stated my party's name and reservation. Once seated, the evening and food was quite remarkable. Our waitress had in depth knowledge of the wine list and menu. She took photos of our special occasion and remembered a few of us from the previous week. She even remembered what we had ordered the prior week. At the end of our meal the manager checked in with us and was quite personable -- putting a nice touch to the evening."

"This was our first time at Bakersfield Restaurant. We wanted to try someplace new for our anniversary dinner. We were seated within five minutes of our reservation time, even though they had a large number of diners waiting for tables. Definitely make a reservation. The noise level was a little high, but we were seated in a lovely quiet corner. Our server was attentive and helpful. We ordered a bottle of wine and enjoyed it. I chose the Skuva Bay Salmon and my husband ordered the Filet. Both were delicious. I also ordered a side of the cranberry, walnut rice. The flavors were wonderful. Dessert was the vanilla bean creme brulee-frozen on the bottom, carmelized on the top. It was awesome! We will definitely return."

"I have been to Bakersfield 4 times and this last time was not up tp par. The food was not as good as usual and I could only eat a small portion of the fish as it was very bland. The staff offered another dish but it was too late to enjoy. They did comp a glass of wine and dessert but I was really disappoited with the dinner. Even my husband's prime rib dinner was not as good as usual. Maybe Monday's are the good chef's day off. we will go back sometime and try it again."

"I really enjoy eating at Bakersfield. It is upscale, delicious food served in generous portions for reasonable prices. The house salad comes packed with lots of fresh ingredients and the house-made dressings are unique and delicious. The knife and fork fried chicken is fantastic- well-seasoned, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It is a must-try! Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. Overall great experience, I only wish it was more crowded when I went so I knew it would be staying in business!"
