Owned and operated by the O'Donnell family for over 80 years, O'Donnell's Sea Grill carries on the tradition of offering renowned Norfolk-style dishes, signature crab cakes, and fresh Maine lobster, as well as steaks, chicken, pasta and fresh-made soups and salads. "Fathers Day meal was ruined by a group of "people" with 5 unsupervised young children, yelling and throwing things around. There were plates tossed onto the floor, and the adults all were playing with their phones. The place is closing July 27 and it will be no loss, as I didn't ever plan to return."

"O'Donnells was willing to accept a reservation for 11 people on Open Table. Unfortunately, they didn't exactly honor the reservation and kept us waiting almost 30 minutes! As my parents are in their late 80s and both use a cane this was particularly difficult and uncalled for, with a reseravation! However the food was good, and once seated, we had a very enjoyable evening."

"O'Donnells seems to fluctuate from one visit to the next. They are going out of business soon, so that may be part of the problem. The waitress brought me the wrong order and claimed that she didn't hear me clearly when I ordered. My applesauce arrived frozen and the cole slaw had an odd taste. Most of the shrimp had an iodine taste. This will be our last visit to this restaurant. Hopefully, their new owner will do better."

"We've eaten at O'Donnells many times before, dating back to the days when the restaurant was located in Bethesda. Their seafood is always good and well-prepared, and tonight was no exception. I had the twin lobster tails, expertly prepared and delicious. My partner had the seafood risotto and said that it was one of the best dishes of that kind he had ever had. Our only "down" note for the evening was our waiter, who was utterly indifferent to our presence and whose treatment bordered on rude."

"GO. First, without question, they have the BEST crab cakes EVER. Ever. Very little filling, minimal seasoning, with a brief squeeze of lemon, just enough for the delicious crab to SHINE through... and I'm from Maryland. We know crab. Go for happy hour on weeknights and you can get two 3 oz crab cakes for $11 with a side of house-made potato chips--it is a delicious, hearty dinner fit for a King or Queen. Pair that with an old-school (very) order of the clams casino and a *healthy* (read: nice pour) adult beverage of your choice in the large bar area and you have the recipe for turning a bad day into a very good one. For value, sheer pleasure, and impeccable seafood quality, this is the place to go. We love every minute of O'Donnell's."

"We've heard about this place and have lived in the area a long time, but never went. Finally did - all the food was overcooked, they forgot one of the dishes and brought it later after the rest were done eating, just a heavy, fat and calorie laden meal like I was eating at Red Lobster. Service was excellent, however, waitress was awesome, host was great- and they gave us a discount for being late - wasn't the atmosphere or people - just the food, i didn't like."

"We really enjoyed our meal, my daughter and I had the orange rough which was excellent! My husband also enjoyed the dish he got. We were sorry to hear the restaurant would be closing as we have always enjoyed it and our meal this time was really excellent!

"Can't speak for Baltimore, but O'donnell's has (and has for 90 years) the best crab cakes in Montgomery County. Hands down. It's really not even a contest. The Norfolk style seafood is great as well.
Bonefish, across the way, is a big faceless national chain that serves low quality food, but advertises. They're always crowded and O'donnell's often isn't. It's a shame, and a travesty, and one of the reasons that Gaithersburg doesn't have more high-quality dining options! You'd be a fool to choose bonefish over odonnells"

"Mother's Day 2013 ... was an exceptional day for my Mom ... her three children took her to O'Donnells in Kentlands. The four of us enjoyed a wonderful dinner and conversation. The food was fantastic and we were not rushed by anyone. I use to frequent O'Donnells in Bethesda during the 60's-80's as I worked in that area. Lunch was always something special when we dined there. and dining in Kentlands brought back many memories of the past ..."

"Kudos to O'Donnells - they do it right! They have the perfect match of excellent tasting food, fresh flavors and a very welcome ambiance. One knows they are in a great restaurant, but yet, you can be comfortable there in jeans or a suit. Our service was very good and the rissoto was flawless, the seafood bisque is a must on your visit; my friend loved the fried green tomatoes. I highly recommend O'Donnell's and have added it to my list of "must get to" with all my friends. You will love the ambiance and the fact that you can eat great food in a relaxing atmosphere, but yet still feel very upscale while doing it - great balance indeed - get there!"

"We went to O'donnells specifically to try the fried oysters as both an appetizer and an entree. When we arrived and sat down the waiter informed us "we just switched our menu for summer, so now soft shell crabs, all fried oysters are not available" a bit disappointing since we drive from Bethesda specifically for the oysters. We stayed anyway. Fried calamari was not good. The waiter was great and took it off our bill. Shrimp and scallop risotto was delicious and Caesar salads pretty good. Overall, pretty pricey, about $70 for 2 without alcohol. Service was very good, especially because our waiter was new. Still in search of good seafood. Not sure if this truly fit the bill for the price."

"The Crab Cakes and Casserole of Crab O'Donnell were outstanding as usual. Service was OK - they brought out our entree's just after we got our salads and had to take them back to the kitchen to keep them warm until we finished. It seems they could have coordinated the food service better. Also, our waitress was a little slow, and they were not crowded. "We went here for lunch because we wanted to try something new. The menu was a great lunch menu, offering brunch and cheaper prices for lunch items that are generally more expensive during dinner.
The bread that came was a pleasant surprise. Cinnamon rolls, a cornbread muffin, and regular white roll. What a nice touch for a brunch! Our waiter was nice, he cleaned the crumbs from the table in between courses. We ordered steamed shrimp and a bowl of clam chowder for appetizers. The shrimp was good and came with both melted butter and cocktail sauce which was really nice! For lunch I had fried oysters which were delicious and my boyfriend had fish and chips which he seemed to enjoy. Prices were very affordable for a seafood lunch."

"Generally speaking, a solid seafood restaurant. The highlight of the meal is always the basket of rolls delivered to the table. The iced rum buns are killer! I can't say anything sticks out in my mind as exceptional, but I've also never had a bad experience there."

"We live in Bethesda and used to go to O'Donnells when it was a few blocks away - we have great memories of that experience.
We rarely get to the O'Donnells in Kentlands, but are always a bit disappointed in the lack of color and decoration.
We had crab gumbo and clam chowder and both were disappointing - no chunks of fish at all.
The chicken caesar and the cobb salads were both very good. The perennial rum buns were a little dry."

"I chose to check out the Sunday Brunch menu on my visit. The Bloody Mary was tasty. My server was not familiar with many of the menu items and her description of how the shrimp creole omelet was prepared and what was delivered were vastly different. Service is spotty- I think in part because the servers are covering as many tables as possible."

"I had the calamari which I found to be ok and I kind of wish that I'd tried the clams. The stuffed lobster tail was very good as well as the basket of bread. Ice tea was perfect. Overall, I would return to the restaurant and would definitely recommend it to others. Some of the other meals I saw delivered to other customers looked very good."

"I enjoyed a very good meal at O'Donnells Sea Grill. My guest and I ordered the crab dip, which was full or lump crab meat and very flavorful. The only issue I had with it was that it came out lukewarm. The filet mignon with mashed potatoes were very tasty and the 3 oz. crab cake I ordered on the side was DELICIOUS! It was very creamy and seasoned to perfection. My friend enjoyed the stuffed flounder and also raved about the crab stuffing, which I am pretty sure was seasoned the same way as my crab cake. Dessert was a nice treat as well. I ordered the caramel creme brulee and my friend had a massive slice of carrot cake that she enjoyed. This was a great place with tasty food and attentive service. I will definitely be going back again soon."

"The food and service was excellent. The only problem we had was they didn't put us in a room with the other large parties, we were a group of 10. Instead the put us outside of that room (even though there was plenty of room for us), and it was a tight squeeze for the people to walk behind us into the room."
