Lowcountry Bistro

SIMPLY LOWCOUNTRY: Lowcountry Bistro focuses only on the freshest ingredients since all of the food we cook is from scratch. On the menu you will find cult favorites like Chicken and Waffles to Lowcountry classics like Shrimp and Grits. We also believe that great food can be affordable. Many of our lunch dishes are under $10.

Our goal as a restaurant is to serve high quality, delicious food, at a fair price. We hope you agree after your meal at Lowcountry Bistro.

SISTER RESTAURANT TO 82 QUEEN
As an icon of the city for the past 30 years, we have seen restaurants come and go. We pride ourselves on the fact that we were one of the first original Lowcountry cuisine restaurants to open their doors in the city. We know Lowcountry and after diligently researching Market Street restaurants, have come to the conclusion that what the area needs is a true, authentic Lowcountry restaurant.

"Although the ambience and outdoor seating isn't anything to write home about, the food is simply amazin; however, you can still enjoy your meal outdoors with friends. I had the french toast which was great. The biscuits as an appetizer was also a great addition to start off the brunch menu. Great place to dine in the morning. It wasn't also busy either which was fantastic!"

"Sometimes the best dishest are the simplest. I went for lunch nad had the daily market special of 1/2 a salad (cranberries and goat cheese) and Virginia ham and fried green tomato sandwich on a croissant with pimento cheese spread. This simple meal was brimming with flavor."

"It was our first time in Charleston, SC and the first time at the Lowcountry Bistro. We loved everything about the food, service and price. We also loved our waiter Samuel and will highly recommend the Lowcountry Bistro to family and friends.
I look forward to our return trip in the fall.

"We visited Lowcountry Bistro for Brunch and, WOW, it was amazing! We started the meal with biscuits and jam (everything, including the preserves, were made from scratch in-house). For our main course, we had the chicken and waffle, which was sweet, salty, savory, crunchy, and TASTY. The portions are HUGE and the food was divine. I must also add -- three flavors of some of the BEST GRITS EVER. I had a side dish of Rosemary Goat Cheese grits, and my husband had Parmesan Chive Grits.
I am in love with this little bistro -- Cheff Matt Paul is a true asset to the Charleston food scene."

"We had visitors this weekend, and decided to do a chicken and waffles taste test. We shared a plate as our appetizer at LC Bistro. Delicious! The chicken was seasoned wonderfully, the waffle was tasty, and the syrup was nice and warm. I ordered the shrimp and grits for my entree. So good! They put a fried green tomato between the grits and shrimp, and it is soooo good!"

"Was on vacation and walking by the restaurant when I spied "Chicken & Waffles" on the menu. Eveything highlighed (sweet potato bacon corn bread waffle, crispy half bone-in chicken, pecan butter, bourbon reduction) were my favorites, but how would they go together? I knew I had to dine there and I wasn't disappointed. This dish has an amazing contrast of flavors and the chicken is so juicy under the crispy skin. Fantastic! Oh, if this restaurant were in my neighborhood, I would eat there often. My husband had the Fish of the Day and really enjoyed it as well. Wait staff was attentive and interested in our experience. The bistro's decor is not as inviting as it could be, but the food made up for anything lacking."

"Lowcountry bistro is exactly what we were looking for. They had great outdoor seating and we were able to try some local specialties. Our waitress was good, but took some time to warm up to us. The she crab soup was delicious, but could have been warmer, fried green tomatoes were a first for us and were very good, and the pork belly/pulled pork appetizer was good, but not what we were expecting- it was fried into a patty. Entrees we had were the chicken and waffles, jambalaya and cioppino- all were very tasty. I'd like to try their lunch menu the next time we are in Charleston."

"We chose LB based on reviews. We chose to sit on the outside porch based on it's description as a great porch and view. We were sat at a tiny patio table with a tiny chair that was incredibly uncomfortable. The view was nonexistent. Our waiter had very little knowledge of the menu. The appetizers were good enough but nothing special. We had the lobster hush puppies and a special pork belly. My mom's entree, the duck, was also good enough but didn't have have ton of flavor. My dish, blackened Mahi Mahi was inedible. The fish had little flavor and the rice/risotto had none. The dessert, recommended by our waiter, was the topper. The poundcake with bacon was a joke. Didn't look good or taste good. Overall NOT a good experience."

"The hostess was welcoming, and we were seated promptly. We had a reservation, but it was not needed as there were few customers. Our waiter was a bit abrasive. The food was pretty good, and the portion sizes average. I had the shrimp and grits, and I was not able to finish. My husband had one of the specials, but was left feeling hungry. The price of the food is similar to other nearby restaurants in downtown Charleston, $20-30 a plate. I would not go back if I had a choice, but would try some of the other restaurants in the area."

"My fiancé and I had family in town and decided to try it out because their sister restaurant is 82 queen, which we love. We had a party of 6 and requested out door seating on open table. Great view but it only had very small tables that could fit one person comfortably, 2 people was cramped. They pushed 2 of these small cafe style tables together againgst the wall and sat us there. It was 3 people crowded around 1 table and our backs to the other 3 people. Not comfortable. When asked to change the server said "you requested to be outsode". If you cannot comfortably accommodate people on the porch say "we only seat parties of 2 outside". Food was however very good food Good lunch spot, just horrible planninnf"

"We had a large group and there were issues with people arriving late and needing to change table locations for easier access for elderly guests. The staff was super helpful, kind and attentive. The wait staff was knowledgable and had a great sense of humor with us. The food came out a little slow but not really too bad for how big our group was. All of our plates came out at the same time and no one had any problems with temperature or anything like that. I can't speak for every dish on the table but my snapper special was perfectly cooked and delicious as were the appetizers I tried and my daughter's chicken fingers. I will definitely go back."

"The Restaurant is new so they will, in time, get a few thing corrected. The downstairs dining was a little tight, every time someone
walked by, they bumped my chair. The food was very good with a great selection, fron she-crab soup to rack of lamb, which is what
I had, very, very good.

"The staff wasn't rude and the food wasn't bad. It wasn't great either. The lobster hush puppies have a nice taste but are hard as a rock. The open face turkey and pork burger is also tasty but had a lot if fat. The market burger was dry. Upstairs is a neat place to sit with outdoor seating over looking the market. Occasionally you get a breeze with the smell of the horses. Not a bad experience, but with all if the excellent options in downtown Charleston, I expected "great". Their sister restaurant, 82 Queen, is a must."

Everyone enjoyed their meals (fish and grits, chicken and waffles, and market breakfast) a great deal. I ordered the fish and grits and the portion was so large, I was able to get four more servings out of the one meal. They serve large portions for low prices without sacrificing the quality. We will definitely go back again!"

"I had read reviews saying this was a casual place with decor that needed some updating - and I have to agree. The food and the service were good, but decor is just very lacking. Our waiter was very attentive and efficient, and I had the chicken and waffles. The reviews are true - it is delicious! Thin, crispy skin on the half chicken, fried perfectly and delicious! Waffle is thin, but just the right amount of sweet with the pecan butter and syrup. My cousin had the pulled pork platter with collards and mac & Cheese. Pork just wasn't very good, but collards and mac & cheese were good.
For the prices I would expect a much higher class dining area, and especially with the sister restaurant 82 Queen.

"We recently visitied Lowcountry Bistro for a Bachelorette dinner on a Friday night. There were 9 in our group and we were able to get a large table that did not feel over crowded and had plenty of room. Our waitor was very attentive and was able to provide us with drinks and menus right away. He even gave our bride a shot of Moonshine on the house! The food was amazing and the portions were very reasonable and so was the pricing. A couple of the girls even ordered mutiple plates and shared them becuase there were too many delicious options to choose between. The best was that we were on Market and were able to walk to many bars afterwards. I would highly recommend this restaurant!!"

"Great location right on market Street. The server, Eric, is a great ambassador for restuarant and city. Very knowledgable and helpful with menu. He also informed us about local area and places to see. The food is very good and served hot and looking great. The taste was outstanding. Atmosphere is casual and cozy for private time with spouse."

"Lowcountry Bistro is an exceptional restaurant and a great value. Located on South Market Street directly across from the open markets themselves, it has a wonderful, cozy neighborhood bistro feel. You will have a hard time choosing from the menu because everything looks so incredible. I settled on fried Parmesan okra as an appetizer (outstanding!) and chicken and waffles (delicious seasoning on the chicken), which ended up being my main course as well as dessert. The wine and specialty cocktail list is small but perfect for a bistro setting. I was there late in the evening, and if you want a relaxed but openly friendly restaurant with terrific service, don't miss Lowcountry Bistro!"

"Had an amazing lunch at LowCountry Bistro! If you are looking for great southern cuisine, you can't pass up this place! Great location on S. Market street. Comfortable environment, incredibly helpful staff and received our food quickly!
What we ate:
-Pulled pork nachos (these were life changing!! From the pork, queso, pickled okra, corn, homemade sour cream, they were to die for!)
-She crab soup
-BLT with amazing homemade mayo and fresh green tomatoes
-Drinks- You really get your $'s worth in these drinks: Sweet Tea Mojito and Berry lemonade

"It was nice, nothing spectacular. Skimpy pour on wine which is bothersome, I am a wine lover and was rather surprised at this. Outdoor dining is very limited on tiny bistro tables, but expected in this historic town where these older structures are limited. Nice waiter."

"Being a sister restaurant of 82 Queen, I had high expectations, and Lowcountry Bistro lived up to those expectations. A more casual option, Lowcountry Bistro still offers a great selection of traditional "lowcountry" food at an affordable price, with great service."

"After reading good reviews we were looking forward to eating here but were disappointed. The waiter recommended shrimp and grits and the chicken waffles. The shrimp and grits tasted like grits with picante sauce with grated cheese and two shrimp. The picante sauce over powered the dish. The chicken waffles were just weird. Sweet potato waffles with fried chicken and a bourbon reduction which tasted and looked like syrup. The service was rushed we got our appetizer and entree at the same time. I would not go back."

"Although visit Charleston fairly often, somehow missed this little gem located right near the Market. The food was creative, low country fare at a reasonable price. This is the sister restaurant to 82 Queen, a more upscale, well respected restaurant. The chicken and waffles were delicious, as was the Carolina pulled pork with Mac and cheese and collard greens. Casual and a bit loud atmosphere. We sat just inside door, however there was seating on 2nd level possibly quieter. I would definitely return."
