Located in Lower East Side of Manhattan Freemans offers a rugged and clandestine respite in a Colonial American Tavern setting. The cuisine is early American: simple, rustic and inspired by Old World traditions. Freemans is well known for beautiful artisanal cocktails and warm service.
"We went to Freeman's to celebrate our daughter's graduation from Parsons. She had been here before and it was her choice. We covered an age range from 22 to 88 and everyone loved it. The grilled trout was a standout, and the dark chocolate cinnamon ice cream was our favorite dessert."

"I b'ked a table for 6 for a bday party. We were seated rt away, but our server was persona non grata. It took 30 min b4 we ordered the 1st round of drinks & we couldn't find her for a 2nd. The food took so long that we had to get up & ask around for it & my schnitzel came out burned black. Our server didn't come back to chk on us until the meal was over, then w/coat & purse in hand told us that she was l'ving for the night & someone else would be over. No one came, only to have the same server rtn a HALF HOUR later & drop the check w/o asking if we wanted dessert. When I asked to speak w/ a mgr, I was directed to another server. So insulting. Everyone left sober, miserable, disgusted by over-paying, & too tired to continue the party."

"The alley approach to cozy Freemans is just as charming, if a bit more gritty. The intimate first floor setting is more fun and festive than the more spacious upstairs space, more appropriate for larger parties like ours--8 for Mother's Day, all bedecked with taxidermy and antlers, well worn wood floors and tables, and The service was casual and efficient; the food was good, but nothing special. Go there for the ambience."

"Brunch is my favourite meal and Freemans was recommended to us for exactly this reason - it did not disappoint. The table shared the artichoke dip, a must have. Other highlights were the skillet eggs (enjoyed by 3 of our party) and the buttermilk pancakes. Service was friendly but unobtrusive and the ambience very chilled which is what you want on a Saturday morning. I would highly recommend Freemans to friends and will definitely be back. A word of warning - not the cheapest brunch in NYC!"

"I hadn't been here in a few years when a colleague recommended it for a lunch meeting. A great reminder! It was great to introduce it to others in our party as well. The lunch menu is very similar to dinner, just a bit lighter portion wise. I had the soup of the day and the frisee salad and we all enjoyed sharing the warm artichoke dip. Our server was on point and although one of the wines we ordered was out, she quickly made a recommendation for another that was similar. I'm definitely adding this back to the rotation of regular spots for lunch meetings. looking forward to trying more specials!"

"Great dining experience in the wine room. Perfect little room for small gatherings. The food was simple and well prepared but if you are expecting anything extra ordinary or fancy this is not the place for that. What it does offer on the flip side is cool, quirky ambiance and good service."

"Freemans is one of the most charming places in the Lower East Side. The vibe is great and so is the food. It's always packed, so make sure to make a reservation with enough time. The menu includes creative salads, amazing crab and artichoke dip, and solid entrees. Don't miss the sticky toffee cake!"

"Surprisingly good food from apps to desserts. Ordered the artichoke's dip, duck special (meat melts in your mouth, skin was crispy, perfection), and the toffee cake. All very good. Seating is a bit tight to expect to hear your neighbors conversations very clearly. The bar in the bar room looked happening, so I might try to dine at the bar next time."

"The place is really nice. The table was upstairs where the ambience is really quiet and we appreciated that. The food was good, nothing special but good. The problem was our waiter. We had to wait for 15 minutes to have our coffees and half an hour to give him our order. We asked him to stop so many times and he kept saying "I'm coming" but he never did. We could see him taking orders in any other table but ours. We were sitting close to the kitchen so he was walking in front of us all the time but he didn't look at us once. Then we spoke with the manager asking for another waiter. She was really nice and the new waitress too. Unfortunately for them, NY is full of good places where to have brunch and I won't choose this one anymore."
