Over a decade ago we were inspired to create a restaurant that welcomes, entertains and nourishes our customers the Italian way, like family. Known to the locals as Zia's, this quaint neighborhood restaurant is located just blocks from the Chesapeake Bay, nestled in the heart of Chic's Beach. Specializing in authentic Italian cuisine, the chalkboard menu features an array of flavorful chicken, veal, beef and seafood dishes made with the freshest ingredients. Weekly additions of seasonal fair, featured wines, and homemade desserts bolster more traditional menu selections. Family and friends enjoy casual dining with great food, a well rounded wine list, and specialty martinis at an excellent value. Salute!
"Affordable, good italian for couples or the entire family. A little on the noisy side earlier in the evening, but maybe would be more romantic after dark. Great neighborhood gem!"

"I've been going to Zia Marie for well over ten years, but for some reason I keep giving them the benefit of doubt when things are continuing to slip. I kept saying, "maybe it was a bad night?", but the next time is the same or worse. I'm done.
Advice to mgt: Hire better waitresses. Manage them better. Stop putting parties of six at tiny round tables. Invest in real menus (the chalkboard is cute, but really awkward). Your food choices are great, but portions per price are too inconsistent. Work on staff duty delegation and facilities to avoid letting delivery load impact sit-down service."

"Highly recommended for an Excellent restaurant experience! After some unecessary confusion at the Hostess station and check-in, our group of six had a wonderful time. Incredible food and wonderful server. The restaurant is very small so definitely make a reservation if you can. It is very loud because of the small space, but if you can deal with the noise the dining experience is great."

"ZIA's seems like a well known local spot with a loyal following filled with lots or return customers and vacationers alike. my wife and i have been there a handful of times- and certainly plan to return again- the italian food is well prepared and quite tasty!
the atmosphere is lively and loud, so if you're going for intimate conversation, find another spot, but if your looking for great iatalian food at a great price- a block from the bay- this is THE place to be.
a note for first-time visitors- trust your GPS as ZIA's is right in the middle of a residential neighborhood- not in a typical business core / commercial strip."

"Had not been here in a few years. Was just as good as I remembered. Nice little neighborhood spot. Serving staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu selections. Nice table by the fireplace. Will be back soon."

"Some of the freshest and most delicious Italian food I've ever had in Virginia Beach. Only issue was the length of time it took for the main course to arrive. Luckily, we ordered appetizers, which arrived quickly and helped with the wait. I got the impression they were understaffed on the night we were there. Our waitress seemed to be handling quite a few tables. The food was outstanding and well worth the wait!!"

"Zia Marie never disappoints. I rated only "good" on ambiance because it's not a quiet, dark, stuffy kind of place. It is vibrant and lively as you would expect a family Italian dinner to be. The food is superb. This is truly a neighborhood gem."

"my wife and I went to Zia Marie's a week ago for the first time. We liked it so well that we returned this weekend. Victoria was our waitress both times. Not only did she remember us and make us feel welcome, she even remembered our drinks. A new favorite restaurant."

"I went with 3 other people that seemed to enjoy there meals. I, unfortunately, did not. I just got the spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs were very doughy (too many bread crumbs). The taste of bread crumbs was overwhelming and I really wasn't able to taste the actual meat. My boyfriend got the spinach lasagna and really enjoyed it.
I was also disappointed that they did not accommodate my reservation request. I requested to either sit at a booth or not in the middle of the restaurant. We were placed at a table in the middle of the restaurant. I had heard great things about this place and was pretty disappointed for my 1st visit. I will still give them another chance though."

"I have a simple three-test for choosing a good Italian Restaurant. The first test for good Italian food is the smell test. I must smell great Italian kitchen smells as soon as I reach the doorway (preferably in the parking lot). It has to smell like my mom is in the kitchen; Zia Maries’ past that test. Next, the basic red (marinara) sauce must also be like mammas’; again Zia mia, your sauce is very close to that mark. However, the place I saw room for improvement was in the bread. I must have a good chunk of great Italian bread crusty outside warm and airy inside – This third element needs some improvement. But overall its a great neiborhood restaurant; it's like eating at my aunt Maries' and telling her afterwards "Brava Zia!""

"Won't be going back- service was terrible! Have tried this restaurant several times, it's always the same thing- poorly staffed, yet very busy, so the server has no time for you. Food was okay, not great, for the price. While I get the whole beach vibe thing- the staff doesn't wear uniforms, so it's hard to tell who exactly works there, and for a "nice" restaurant- they were all wearing hoodies! Was the heat broken?"

"I've been going to Zia's for 15 years. It has been awhile since we've been. The food is the same as always, great. It is still noisy when full which is any time past 5:30. They are always packed because the food and service are great. Open Table was great because last time we tried to go, we couldn't get in.
Just about anything you order is good. Check the specials. The pizza is great but it has never been on the menu, you have to know about it."

"Made reservations two weeks in advance. Took some friends for the first time. 25th birthday. Unfortunatley we had to sit at the bar because our table wasn't ready till forthy minutes after our 8pm reservations. We ended up eating our dinner at the bar and it was hard to communicate with each other. Regaurdless of not being able to be seated my friends loved the food as we told them they would. Best Long Island Ice Teas ever!!!! I don't drink or like them any where else. Our visit was 2/15/13"

"The food is excellent but the service was awful. We were there for over 2 hours, had to physically get up from table to track down the waitress to ask for check and then had to physically take the check to the cashier and stand in the way of other waitresses to get it paid so we could leave."

"This was a beautiful spot but the food was disappointing. Although I do not like highly Salted dishes, the lack of salt in bread, salad, and entrees led to a blandly flavored meal."

"we are a group who eat out every friday night someplace, of my party of 8 on friday live within 10 mins. of zia maria's, but in the past, we have never been able to get in on fridays until open table made that possible for us as a group.
we eat there ofter in small parties of 2 to 4 for years....Victoria always takes great care of us.
zia's has always been very noisy that is why i gave a poor rating for ambiance.
several of us had one of the specicals - clams and mussels - WOW i hope i catch them again soon."

"Disappointed, wrote on my reservation that it was wife’s birthday and it was never mentioned during dinner. No birthday greeting or wishes. Food was ok, but not close to what you get in Italy."

"As always, the food was wonderful. I had been before but brought work collegues and out of town visitors. They too, enjoyed their meals.
The one downside, the menu is posted on chalk boards on the wall, our table was one of the few that did not have a view of any of the boards. I stood in the middle of the restaurant reading the nearest one, while our server was able to find one small printed menu for the rest of the table.
I will be going back."
