"I'll start with the good .......Great location beautiful interior great for large groups or romantic dinner . Now for the bad ....the food was either too salty or very bland . I order the lobster bisque for appetizers it was so salty I cringed so I told our server and she just took it away with no apology and left so I moved on and got the lobster roll instead and it was gross the tiny piece of lobster inside was frozen and salty :( and my entree which was the bouliabassi was tasteless . I am a foody and will not be going back there :("

"Went for dinner to celebrate my wife's birthday; just the two of us. Food was burnt (sent back), portions were small. Seating is "eclectic" -- long walk to third floor to be seated in a tomb-like room. Tables with large groups jammed in there. Not an appealing setting. Poor tasting Merlot. Service was kind but infrequent. An overall "meh" experience. But my dining companion was great to be with, so who cares about the restaurant. Soon to be forgotten restaurant."

"The service we received from our server James was enough to want to return to Doc Magrogan's. We were seated near an air conditioning vent and he made sure the temperature was adjusted to reduce the amount of cold air blowing onour table. He was attentive but not hovering. As always the appetizers were excellent and large in size. Everyone in our party enjoyed their varied seafood dishes."

"We were a group of four. Two in the group ordered lobster rolls. Both found them to be so over salted as to border on the inedible. One person ordered a fish dish which he said was fine. The other ordered bouillabaisse which he said was tasteless and probably the poorest version of the dish he had ever ordered."

"So many wonderful options. The smoked fish spread is so subtle and amazing. Nija our server was incredibly warm, welcoming and helpful. Once she said the crab cakes had no filler we were sold. "We enjoy eating here as the food is dependable. Samantha , our server was very good. The only problem I have noticed on my last 3 visits has been that the food comes out very quickly. There is almost no time between courses. Not sure if they are trying to push you out the door faster in order to flip the tables or what. Sat. nights visit had the added fun of the fire alarm going off just after we handed our credit card off to Samantha. There was a kitchen fire I assume , as NO ONE ever told anyone what was happening.Now I'm talking ear piercing siren and flashing lights and NO ONE ever said to evacuate or stay until the fire co shuts it off. We paid and left. Sorry but I'm sitting in a potentially dangerous situation."

"This is a place that my office mates & I go once a month for lunch. The raw oyster bar is the best part - oysters are always fresh and sweet. The menu added an oyster "po'boy" sandwich in the recent past, which is a great addition. Nice big oysters, and tho the batter is a little bland, the overall flavor is nice. Service in our most recent visit was very good (sometimes it's a little slow)."

"This my third time dining here for lunch. The first experience was great. The second experience was not so good. The third time was so so. Service has always been fair at best -- definitely don't expect to be in and out of here quick. The food was great the first visit, the second visit they were out of many items on their menu and my order came out missing key ingredients. This most recent visit the food was so so. One appetizer was excellent, one was not so great and my main course was nothing to write home about. Eh."

"Service was outstanding. Food was good, not great. Fish was over buttered and over-seasoned. Portions of the more expensive stuff that come in combination meals range in size from small to "is it even on the plate"? Dessert menu is a travesty - all mousses? Whose idea was that? With so many great places in the city, we probably won't go back on our own, but wouldn't hesitate to meet friends here for dinner, nor would we discourage anyone from going. It's good...but we're in Philadelphia, and generally good doesn't get my ever-dwindling discretionary restaurant dollar."

"Stopped in here on Saturday night and had a very nice meal. We sampled some lovely oysters. We tried the following oyster varieties: Chesapeake, James River, Watch House, Emerald Cove, Kumamoto, Golden Mantle and Naked Cowboy, which turned out to be a nice variety. In addition to the oysters, I had the Cobb Salad, which had a nice seafood sampling with it. Overall, nice meal w/nice service, would definitely come back again."

"My family and I went to Doc Magrogan's for my birthday. Our server Kim was extremely pleasant. I was excited to have the lobster bake for my birthday dinner. We had the calamari, orange sesame shrimp and the shrimp cocktail to start. It was all delicious. Entrees weren't so great. I was disappointed when told that there were no lobster dishes available. I ended up ordering the wood-grilled combo came with shrimp, scallops, and ahi tuna. The dish came out there was two small bay scallops, two shrimps, and a small piece of tuna. My family saw my plate and was disappointed for me. The fish was flavorless and overcooked. I can't believe that we paid $25 for it. Fish tacos were dry & there was more fried batter than fish in the fish & chips."

"I would love to give this a better review. Let me start by saying the food was delicious. On top of that, the chef was very accomodating. I asked for the fish tacos to be prepared with salmon instead of the mahi was told it wouldn't be a problem.
The only reason that I am not giving more stars is because the service wasn't that great. Things started off well and our server was attentive and reponsive. As the meal went on, she came by less frequently, plates were not cleared and drinks were forgotten. We went early on Sunday evening (4:40p)and it was not very busy.
Perhaps our server was new, but her service was the only disappointing element to an otherwise good meal."

"I thought my trout almondine was delicious. The server was attentive and courteous. I could have used more time to finish my salad before the entree was served. But we were not rushed out at the end. I have been there for lunch and dinner and liked everything both times. They offer wine by the glass in 2 sizes which is great if you are not a big drinker. It's a cozy, friendly place. I would return again and recommend it to friends."

"Doc Magrogan's is technically a seafood place, but they have tons of non-seafood options (including burgers and veg things). I've been there only for lunch on weekdays, so I can't comment on brunch, happy hour, or dinner, but I will say that the restaurant could be great for lots of occasions, including lunch with a boss or coworker, drinks with friends, or even a date. My favorite thing about Doc Magrogan's is that it has lots of options for people who are gluten-free or have other health-related dietary restrictions. They are very accommodating. In fact, the service in general is exceptional."

"Been here several times. Generally good experience. Some items priced out of line with level of restaurant. Also, disappointed to find one of St. Patty's Weekend specials not available at 5:30 on the first day of the advertised special. My Mahi tacos were a tasty substitute and we enjoyed the oysters (but be warned, buck-a-shuck only applies to one type of oyster)."

"The food was seasoned well, which would make me go back. Our server David was horrible, he didn't tell us his name, we had to ask after being seated for more than 30 minutes, messed up our order told us it would be a few minutes, which ended up taking 30. One of the ppl in my party was finished by the time the rest of us got our meals. The manager Stephanie did come save the day and ended up taking care of us the remainder of the time we were there. If it had not been for her we would've just left without eating."

"I visited to enjoy the all you can eat crab legs on a Sunday evening (this was my fifth time dining at Doc Magrogan's Oyster House-Sansom Street). The portions, as well as the size of the crab legs, were small and not worth the trouble-very disappointing, a mistake I will not make again. The lobster bisque was salty, but the service and the fried oyster appetizer were good."
