Tucked away on quiet South Street, just steps from South Station and the financial district, Les Zygomates boasts a French bistro motif and menu, and extensive wine list for your dining pleasure. A full bar is also available, as is a bar menu for lighter bites in one of our two bar areas. Live jazz is featured Tuesday through Saturday nights for both bar and dinner guests.
"The food at Les Z was very good to excellent. The soft shell crab on a vegetable risotto was yummy and very fresh. The special steak with a layered potato side was totally delicious. Good wine list. Unfortunately, our experience was marred by our terrible waiter, who was haughty, inattentive, and inaccurate. He pushed alcohol and then ignored our table. He brought the wrong entree and salads. We had arrived at 5:45, thinking we had plenty of time to get to the theatre by 8. However, there was a 40 minute delay between our salads and entree so we had to rush eating our entrees and dessert. The evening was saved by the kind owner, who apologized and offered free desserts and salads. We'd return but with a new waiter."

"I had not been back to Les Zygomates in a few years and we were excited to get a table on a Friday night. Sadly our experience was drawn out and painful. The same waiter I remember from when the restaurant opened is still there in the same section- but has become surly and outright nasty when we questioned why our food was taking so long.. My steak (the ribeye special) was tough and overcooked. The menu is largely untouched from years ago, lacking any current updates, and the bread is clearly store bought. The best part of the meal was the charming bartender who served us drinks before we sat down at our table, where we would be trapped for the next three hours. Total disappointment."

"GREAT wine list, many available by the glass. French bread good, butter PERFECT. Cauliflower soup tasty, but oversalted and served simple -- a garnish or custom cracker or something with color would have been a nice touch; salade nicoise was nicely prepared and presented, all ingredients fresh, but again, no flair, just the basic recipe. Dining partner satisfied with her salad, but nothing notable to report. I'm worried the chefs must be bored! Warm welcome from hostesses; server somewhat aloof with minimal interaction/engagement; good water service. No fresh poivre offered. So in short, nice wine selection, reliable food, great ambience, but in my recent experience missing a little on the details for this special class of eatery."

"Went for jazz and dinner. The music was uninspiring. Food is apparently hit or miss. My wife had a fish that was great. My rib-eye steak (even though med-rare) was tough even for a steak knife."

"I really enjoyed the stylish ambiance, the excellent service and the great wine selection. I was pleasantly surprised with the vegetarian options - while not abundant, they were really good (I had the beet salad and the mushroom risotto). Another nice touch is that you get to choose whether to be seated in the quiet area or in the part with live jazz. I highly recommend this place if you're in the area!"

"overall enjoyed our experience, but dissapointed with the onion soup. I was expecting the cheese to have melted over the sides of the bowl and be browned and gooey. no such luck and soup was very sweet. also, creme brulee very disappointing. music and atmosphere wonderful. prix fix had good selections and good price."

"Zygomates is cozy and elegant, with attentive service, and wonderfully prepared traditional and more creative dishes. A favorite that we have returned to many times, and never tire of."

"The overall atmosphere is great. The food value, however is not. I ordered fluke which was a costly mistake. It tasted like nothing and was mealy in texture. The accompanying green beans were excellent but that wasn't what I was paying for. My date's seared scallops were only decent. Their own version of Boston creme pie was pretty good. Our server was personable and attentive and the music of Yoko on the piano added to its unique scene."

"My wife and I had a very enjoyable date night at Les Zygmates. It was a quiet night (not overly crowded), and the jazz band maintained a relaxed atmosphere. The waitstaff was knowledgable and attentive without being intrusive. The food was very good. Well worth the visit."

"we were 3 couples meeting up for a casual Saturday night dinner. we had 6:30 reservation - the place was nearly empty when we got there. picked up around 7:30 in terms of crowd and jazz started around that same time. food was great - I had the onion soup which was not salty at all, and the lamb chops - which i licked the bones clean. Everyone had a great time."

"3 years ago this place used to be fun and a great place for special occasions. We went there last weekend and realized that restaurant has gotten very stale. The ambiance is not as lively and the food has gone downhill. The stake had no flavor and the frites were soggy. The bus boy hit me twice when he was taking the plates away. When I confronted him he gave me a nasty look and cursed me under his breath. I can't imagine this palce staying open very with such bad management."

"The bistro was almost Paris! The Yoko Miwa Jazz trio was an amazing discovery! Given that we did not know what to expect, it was a most memorable evening! We will remember it fondly for a long time. Not to mention doing it again with some close friends! It was worth every moment and every penny."

"This was our third visit to Les Zygomates to celebrate my husband's birthday. The service was very good as was the music. The food, on the other hand, was not worth the price. We all had the specials. While my husband found the scallops good, the accompanyments were only fair. We had the sea bass and it was quite overcooked. It was served on a "risotto" that seemed more like rice and vegetables, not very creamy. We hope it was just an off night, but won't be returning."

"Some hits and misses here. Good - shucked oysters (not the best I've ever had, but not bad either), the steak (cooked perfectly, but all the juice leaked into the frites, making them soggy). Not good - escargot (bland, needed some garlic and seasoning), creme brulee (overcooked - turned out like custard). Just OK - beet salad (not bad, but nothing special) and the expensive chardonnay recommended to me (not oaky, like waiter said it would be). The waiter, after arguing with me a little about the creme brulee being overcooked at first, then took my spoon and dipped into it and agreed it was, so I asked for the sorbet instead and he said OK. But he brought me some ice cream that was not good, was inedible and was definitely NOT a sorbet!"

"The steak ordered medium rare came medium, the medium came medium rare. It took a while to get a waiter who could change it and when it came back to the table, it was still not medium. Food was good, but not great. Noise level made conversation difficult."

"What a great find, great location, hip, and full of energy! I would totally go back for drinks!
The food... well, I would say the portions were quite big. Escargots were classic, baked in butter and herb. My Steak was quite chewy (and still chewy after I doggy-bagged it home and stew for couple hours the next day), but the Lamb special was quite special with the flavoured mustard-crust. The dessert wasn't too thrilling, as I have already forgotten what I had :(
All in all, I will come back for drinks, for the ambiance, and for the jazz."

"While this restaurant is not quite on par with other "top" restaurants in Boston, I think it's a very approachable, good restaurant. Cocktail list was interesting and the cocktails were delicious! Wine list is extensive with MANY options by the glass. Delicious appetizers and entrees, though I probably won't order their oysters again... not that they were bad, but just not the quality you can get at a true oyster place. Portions are good, but not over-sized. Attentive wait staff. The most lovely part was the live music, the night I went it was jazz piano, not overpowering loud, but just right. Very nice atmosphere. I don't get to downtown often, but if I lived or worked in this neighborhood I would be here a lot."

"The food is American-French, French names on the menu but American cooking - which might or might not be a bad thing depending on your taste. The Jazz is mediocre. This is more an expense-account kind of place."

"Overall I was very underwhelmed by our experience. We went there for Valentine's Day and it was just an okay experience. The food was good and service was mediocre. For Valentine's Day they had a special prix fixe menu which we did not order off of, however the only dessert we were really interested in was the Red Velvet Cake that was on the prix fixe menu and not on their regular menu. We asked if we would be able to order a piece of the Red Velvet Cake and our server said "no". We understood that there may not be much left and she said "they did not have the sales they thought on it there was a lot left, but manager told them absolutely no substituting" and left it at that. Not very service orientated here."

"Came in with a big work group (11 people). Food and service were great. The only thing was that 1) it was a bit hard to find and kind of a secluded location and 2) I was hoping for a more formal type of ambiance. The ambiance was a mix of formal with the service but the setting, decorations, seating, etc were a bit too casual for somewhere to take my senior managers."

"Our food was mediocre at best; both entrees (steak and fish) had very little flavor and were tough. The dessert was decent, as was the onion soup to start, but neither was noteworthy. The prix fixe menu is a good value; unfortunately, the food did not deliver."

"Les Zygomates is a warm, welcoming, stylish bistro, restaurant, and bar. You can choose your ambiance, but our favorite is the comfortable bistro where you dine on the full menu and listen to wonderful live jazz. Saturday nights with the Yoko Miwa trio is always perfection. The menu offers choices without being overwhelming, and by the selection, it is clear everything is fresh and original. Servers are available and patient, and you never feel rushed. Truly a wonderful evening!"
