Aged for over 21 years in the Napa Valley… Since its beginnings as a local gathering spot over 20 years ago, Mustards Grill has blossomed into a destination for all who appreciate memorable food, superb wines and a warm welcome. Mustards food is Chef/Owner Cindy Pawlcyn’s mix of American regional dishes with global influences. The list of “Way Too Many Wines” represents the best from appellations throughout California and the New World. Mustards is an American Grill, featuring flavors from around the globe. The wood-burning grill produces such favorites as Cindy’s famous Mongolian Pork Chop, chipotle –rubbed Quail, and the ½ pound Niman Ranch hamburger. The oakwood smoker fills the restaurant with aromas of BBQ baby back ribs and tea-smoked Peking duck. Specialties include Seared Ahi Tuna on sesame crackers and Crispy Calamari tossed with curried slaw. The eclectic wine list features hard to find gems from California, the American Northwest, & South America.

"Mustard's is our very favorite restaurant in the Napa Valley area. It's perfect in every way: delicious, creative, yet uncomplicated food made from the freshest ingredients, plus a terrific wine list. My personal recommendation is the hanger steak. Yum. Cindy Pawlcyn's two other restaurants, Go Fish and Cindy's Backstreet Cafe, both located in St. Helena, are equally excellent. If you haven't tried them, you should."

"As always, the meal was very well prepared, unpretentious and satisfying. This is a restaurant that is not full of itself and focuses on the food rather than unnecessary flourishes. I have always found the dishes to be innovative and prepared with the freshest ingredients. Mexican cooking (the real stuff) is successfully mixed with great regional dishes like lamb and duck. The specials of the day, whether salad or entree are winners.

It is a traditional roadhouse and it is boisterous, you find plush chairs and an elegant atmosphere. It remains my favorite restaurant in the Napa Valley."

"Cabin setting belies the greatness of this restaurant. Pork Chop could be eaten every day. Wife said sea bass was the best she ever had and she is a great cook in her own right. You'd think the quality might slip as restaurants cut corners to stay profitable...not so here. Will dine again the next time we are in Napa!"

"Dined there for the first time based on the many positive reviews. Have to say it was good but not great and definitely very quirky which I'm guessing is what many reviewers really like that about this place. So just be sure to check the menu BEFORE you go there because it is very idiosyncratic. Otherwise the ambiance is great and the wine list is excellent."

"Mustard's lived up to everything we had heard and read. The Famouns Mongolian Pork Chop was wonderful. The wine list includes bottles in all price ranges and the staff was great. This is the most relaxed, down-to-earth 4 or 5 star restaurant you will ever visit. Absolutely no snob appeal or holier-than-thou attitude. It was our favorite dining expirience during our trip to the Valley."

"Our waiter was was great! He had a lot of opinions about he menu and we actually beleived him. I had the tried and true Mongolian Pork Chops which did not disaapoint, my husband had the Lamb special which was ground Lamb spiced up but we didn't realkize it would be served with penne past which was mixed in with the Lamb. Sounded a lot more intriguing than it actually was. Deserts were fantastic! Bravo for continuing to serve and deliver."

"The food was not as good as I was expecting based on the reviews and also based on the fact that Cindy was on Top Chef Masters. I had the roast chicken which was the best entree that we ordered that day. I like the Chicken Paillard from Nordstrom Cafe in SF better. We also got the pork chop, the Truck Stop special with a Rib Eye, and the Squab. The Cowboy Rib Eye from Ruth's Chris is infinitely better. The tuna crisp appetizer was tasty. It was my favorite thing that we ordered that day. The lemon meringue pie was a bit much - the lemon tart part of the dessert was good but we ended up scraping all the meringue off. It was a bit eggy. Service was very good."

"The Hanger steak was served with caramelized pearl onions instead of the onion jam - not the same. The sauce was a bit different too. The mushroom was a +. Don't fix it if it's not broken. Bring back the onion jam!

"It is a fun place for a casual meal in Napa Valley. NOt quite as fantastic as we were anticipating, but still quite fun and good comfort food in a place known for fine dining. Portions are quite generous! Weird screened in area where employees preped and 'hung out' which was distracting as people went back and forth."

"Our second visit. First visit was during our last visit to Napa Valley. This visit was just as fantastic and memorable as the first. Service was attentive and friendly. "It was my second time there. With wonderful fist time, we decide to go back. Food is still good but the braise lamb I ordered was like kid meal portion. The whole plate only have about 8-10 pieces of stew lamb in sugar cube size, plus kid fit full onion rings. That is it! I was hungry the whole time while watching my friends' full plate duck and pork chop.
Also maybe beacause it was really busy, our waitress was not really attentive. I do not think I will go back again."

"Our first trip to Mustard's Grill even though we live only a few miles away. Valentine's Day terribly crowded with many couples coming in, finding over an hour wait for the 20 tables in the restaurant, and leaving. Food very good. High noise level is not conducive to a romantic Valentine's Day meal. Traffic pattern on Highway 29 passes right in front of the place and was bumper to bumper both ways.

We will give it a try again when a special weekend is not at hand."

"I know I'm in wine country when at Mustards. First dined there 20 yrs ago and always enjoy going back. I'm a fan of the signature mongolian pork chop, but everything is tasty and well prepared. The truckstop deluxe description is approppriate. No insult intended, I don't think of Mustards as fine dining. Rather, the menu is full of elevated comfort food. Go there looking for a fancy meal or to experience the latest dining trend and you'll be disappointed. Go there expecting a great dinner in a comfortable atmosphere with some buzz in the air and you can't go wrong at Mustards. I'll be back on my next visit to the wine country."

"First time eating in Napa and had to try Mustard's. Interesting mix of white tablecloth/diner ambiance, the place was hopping even at 1:30 on a rainy Sunday. Famous onion rings - airy and tasty, but not up to the hype. However, the Mongolian pork chop was as good as advertised. The Chinese mustard sauce a great complement to the hoisin-marinated chop with red cabbage and mashed potatoes. The lamb burger with feta and avocado was a sloppy, gloppy delight of flavors but hard to eat. Portions really are enormous - we would recommend splitting the entree unless you have been running marathons or stomping grapes."

"We were looking forward to our meal at Mustards but sadly the food was just okay....Nothing at all spectacular. Had the smoked duck entree and it was dry and overcooked. The truck stop special with the aged rib eye was not worth the $38 we paid for it. It was lacking somewhere in seasoning and flavor. Overall, our dinner was very disappointing."

"I took two gourmet friends visiting from Istanbul. Most Armenian are very good cooks and usually are very critical. They loved the crab-cakes (the best they ever had) and the hanger steak with the Zinfandel. They complained that there was too much food but left nothing on their plates. The menu offers a delectable range of choices, from beef, to calves liver (beautifully prepared with carmelized onions and bacon, teamed with polenta) to special pasta dishes, fresh fish and more. The preparation is consistently above reproach. The sizable mongolian pork chop,topped with a "to die for" barbecue sauce, accompanied by german red cabbage, may be the best, ever! "My wife and I have been travelling to Napa annually for the past 6 years. We only stay for two or three nights but have always been to Mustards for one of our dinners. The food is consistently superb with concomitant service and setting. This restaurant never disappoints and the wait staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The food is cooked properly and Cindy Pawlcyn is an innovative chef who achieves a blend of comfort food with taste profiles that continue to thrill the diner. There is nothing pretentious here and it is a truly enjoyable experience each time."

"My husband and I go to Mustard's everytime we go to Napa, which is about four to five times a year. We have always had a wonderful experience except for this time. I don't know if it had anything to do with it being a holiday weekend or what. We order two appetizers, the sweet corn tamales and our usual onion rings. The corn tamales were served on a hot plate but the corn tamales were ice cold and the onion rings were also cold. Our waiter did not check on us and we had to wait 45 minutes for our entrees. I don't know when our food would have gotten there but we finally managed to get the manager's attention and he immediately took care of us. Mustard's did redeem themselves because our entree's were cooked hot and perfectly as usual."

"This restaurant is a must-try for all! The food is very innovative, yet very accessible. The chefs are very creative and patrons are the winners! "The dining area was small and we were seated across a table of a party of 5. They were so loud and obnoxious, they were practically yelling at each other during dinner. Everyone else in the dinning room were irritated that they could not hear their own private conversation or their server. There was absolutely no consideration to the rest of the diners and the restaurant manager allowed it. We did however have an excellent server, Ms. Wright. She made sure we were taken care of. Overall, the food was great. Once that party of 5 left, everyone was relaxed."

"We visited this restaurant on the advice of Wine Spectator and a local friend for our 22nd anniversary. The waiter gave us several recommendations that were terrific. We both had the Mongolian Pork Chops, their specialty, and they were to die for. The waiter also recommended a fine wine that paired very well with the main course as well as the desert that we shared. I would recommend this restaurant to those who like fine wines, chef-prepared foods, and generous portions."

"Let's just talk about the employees of Mustard's Grill. Is there a single one that isn't of 5-star quality. They are fantastic! Did I say FANTASTIC!!!

This well managed restaurant excels most in Napa Valley let alone the Bay Area.

I love it's friendly and casual atmosphere with a zero attitude and yet as classy as can be.

Food quality is excellent and they have this amazing special twenty six wine page (out of hundreds of selections) which all cost just $26 a bottle. This makes their wine list now affordable for any budget and yet well-chosen.

5-STARS at Mustard's always!"

"It was great. My sister and I took our grandmother there for her 80th birthday and she was in heaven! She had only been once years ago so it was a special treat. It got crowded for lunch which was nice to see on a Wednesday early in the afternoon.
The food was amazing and overall we had a wonderful time. It got a bit noisy when it got busier and was hard to have a conversation but that was really the only thing that could have used improvement."

"I was slightly disappointed with our overall experience at Mustards Grill. Maybe my expectations were simply too high based on previous recommendations and online reviews.
My main issue is that I felt that our courses were rushed out to our table. We ordered, and voila, the food was there immediately.

We had 8:30pm reservations on a Thursday night, because we were traveling that day from the east coast. I think we were out of there within 45 minutes.

I'd describe our entrees as "comfort" food; flavors were good, but not gaspingly great, and food was not plated in any special way. The prices for 2 dinners, each with 2 glasses of wine ran about $150.00 plus tax."

"Excellent service in this good restaurant. The name "Grill" is a little misleading. Food choices are much more sophisticated than the term implies. My wife's lamb burger was very tasty but cooked beyond the "medium" promised. They offered to prepare another burger and my wife declined the offer so as not to delay my meal. Later they apologized again and brought her a complimentary dessert. Like almost all Napa Valley restaurants, this one can be noisy and is often full. We come early for lunch (11:30 a.m.) and things are quiet for a while. The fish dish I ordered was prepared extremely well. The single glass wine portions are quite modest so not a good value. Our waiter was great! All in all, a pleasant dining experiece."

"Do to extreme pre-holiday traffic, we were 30 minutes late for our reservation. No problem for the staff. Enjoyed the lemon garlic chicken immensely and the Hot and Sour soup had a enjoyable variation that made it unique and delicious. We were one of the last tables to leave the restaurant and they never made us feel rushed. Very much appreciated. Definitely will return to Mustard's Gril.l"

"We took my brother and his wife from Las Vegas here on a recommendation. The pork chop is to die for, the hangar steak was delicious! Excellent service and not too bad on the prices. "We'd driven by Mustard's countless times and never stopped before. We decided to try it for an early dinner after wine tasting in the Napa Valley. It's an old fashioned road house, but decorated nicely. Most of the clientele are dressed casually, think jeans and a sweatshirt. We tried the crab frittata as an appetizer, and it was just okay. For a main course we had the pork chop and tea smoked duck, and both are well- deserving of the praise they've received. we would go back for either at the drop of a hat. Ditto the lemon lime meringue pie for desert. Service was very attentive without being intrusive. We'll be back."
