New Orleans in its soul is a true blending of many cultures. The European influences, namely Spanish, Italian & French, coupled with prominent contributions of Caribbean & African heritage, have produced one of America's greatest indigenous cuisines, Creole.
Criollo, the Spanish word for Creole and the name chosen for the new restaurant, represents the amalgam of cultures reflected in our cooking and the unique tastes that comprise Louisiana cuisine.
Fashioned with Louisiana & the Gulf South region's abundant bounty of fresh, home grown products from the land & sea, Criollo's ingredient-driven seasonal menu is designed to offer creative dishes inspired by culinary traditions & an appreciation of today's contemporary tastes.
"Great atmosphere. Attentive wait staff. Wine comp for hotel guests. The shrimp, crab & avocado appetizer and the oyster & pearls appetizer were fantastic. The snapper & crab entree and the grouper & shrimp entrees were so satisfying. And the chocolate mousse dessert rounded out our special occasion."

"Excellent service and the food was perfectly prepared. Servers are attentive but not annoying. This place is a little hard to find as it is tucked away in a hotel but is worth the effort."

"We ate at Criollo on 4/27/13 at 8:15 pm. The good... our table was ready on time, the decor is lovely and the all of the restaurant staff are top notch. The bread & butters were excellent as well as the lagniappe taste of gazpacho were were presented with - one of thee best I've ever tasted. The dessert creme brulee was also excellent.
The bad... although all our dishes were fresh they were ALL tasteless - "Shrimp, Blue Crab & Avacado", the "Foie Gras Tropical" and the "Perdido Pass Snapper". There was practically no seasoning (salt?) in any of the dishes. Even the foie gras was bland when it should have been rich. I'm hesitant to try Criollo again as it was a shame to waste $145 (w/tip)."

"The food here was truly Creole. Being from south Louisiana I'm usually pretty suspect when any restaurant claims to be creole but Criolla was impressive. One of the best Nola meals I've had in a while. The short ribs were very good."

"Lovely dinner at Criollo. IF you are looking for romance and fine dining, this is the spot. We hesitated a bit because its in a hotel, however, this restaurant stands ALONE! It definitely doesnt need the support of the hotel to be a great find."

"Nice anbiance and very pleasant helpful staff. Unfortunately the food was not so good, and definitely not worth the money.
Maybe we made poor selections, but some of the dishes we had were misconceived in our opinion, with sweet elements and/or sauces which clashed with the base flavours. My beet salad was deliciously vinegary, but the accompanying pecan tuile was very sweet and similar to a brandy snap. It would have made a good dessert. My main course was unremarkable, in fact I can't remember what it was! My husband's steak was good meat, but spoiled by a very sweet sauce. His soup was OK, but nothing special.
Overall a disappointment, especially given the price. Not recommended."

"Went for Brunch on Easter Day! Turns out there was a special Easter Brunch served from 12pm to 3:30pm. Our reservations were at 10:45am. My girlfriend and I ended up getting the Sunday Brunch which was their traditional brunch. Well, because they were changing to the Easter brunch we were rushed and they didn't refresh the food. I was looking to relax and enjoy brunch. The waitress didn't suggest or tell us that the brunch would be different and should have suggested to order from the menu. Poor service and food was not replenished."

"The food was a bit boring, not really tasty and dimensional. I had the redfish (?) with fennel. The mango, palm heart salad was not well washed if at all, and the dressing was nothing to write home about. Just overall not well seasoned. Also, would be great if you had a gf menu. 30% are now eating gf!"

"I am giving this one star because our server, John, was amazing. Otherwise, the entire experience was dismal. I made a reservation for 8:15 pm on Open Table. At 8 pm I got a voicemail from the hostess who tells me she cannot seat us until 9 pm. I call back, disappointed, and agreed to take the 9 pm reservation (we really had no choice). During the call the hostess was short and unapologetic. We arrived at 8:45 pm to advise we'd be waiting at the bar. The hostess, Eugenia, tells me our reservation was for 9:15 and when I disagreed, she argued LOUDLY with me in front of other guests waiting to be seated. It was so combattive that another host, whose name I did not get, intervened and seated us. As we walked away, Eugenia told another couple w"

"Amazing menu specializing in fresh gulf seafood with both complex layering of flavors (snapper entree)& more traditional presentations (grouper entree). Service was excellent- attentive but not overbearing. Creme brûlée was prepared in an edible pastry shell surrounded by fresh fruit. Beautifully done and light. The signature appetizer of layered avocado & lump crabmeat topped with a grilled shrimp with a hint of cilantro/lime was delicious. Would absolutely return."

"The experience wasn't bad, however it wasn't good. The waiter did not enter one diner's order, so she did not receive her food until desert. I had a soup for an appetizer and a salad for my entree, the head waiter did not tell the back waiter so both items were brought out at the same time. When I was asked if I was was unhappy with my salad, I said that i was waiting for the main course, so I could eat with my friends. We were were a table of 7, however there were only 5 other tables in the whole restaurant. Also, the sound bleed from the bar was very loud, as only a "folding screen separated the restaurant and the bar."

"Entrees were very disappointing. We were a group of four, each had a different entree. Mine was the "Two Run Farms Lamb Rack"...this was 4 small ribs with almost no meat on them, only skin and fat, on a bed of greasy spinach. Person #2 (a professional chef) had the "cast Iron Sous Vide Beef Filet"... the beef was cold and the crab meat was too spicy. Person #3 had the "Cane Marinated Pork Tenderloin"... he thought the taste did not resemble any pork he had ever ordered, a bland tasteless piece of pork. Person #4 ordered the "Grilled Grouper & Buttered Poached Shrimp"... this was the best of the 4 dinners but not great. The "Seasonal Salad" was the best dish that was served. It is correct to say we would not recommend eating here."

"Restaurant was very loud and noisy - could not have a conversation with the person next to you. The restaurant was busy, so our waiter tried to hurry us through dinner. Our waiter also told us we could not order certain things that were on the menu. My husband received the incorrect entree and by the time he got what he actually ordered, everyone else at the table had finished their meal. I never received part of my order. When the bills arrived, all of them were incorrect and by that time our waiter had become extremely rude. I will never go back."

"My first visit to Criolla was slightly disappointing. I ordered the scallops with rib for lunch. It was nicely done - rib was fork tender and scallops seared. The brown sauce did not appeal to me with the scallops or couscous. Overall a good dish. My lunch companion was not impressed with the gumbo or tomato appetizer - she found the flavors to be somewhat bland. The service was good, but our water or tea was not refilled a single time. Nor were we asked when our glasses were empty. I was however very pleased with the atmosphere and wowed by the design of the restaurant. Hopefully the restaurant can step up the food service."

"One of the finest restaurants, I have ever experienced. From Mr. Morel and his capable staff which accomodated us to James and his associates who charmed all nine of the diners at our table. The appetizers where spectacular as were the entrees. Food was perfectly cooked. Nine of us were celebrating a major milestone, with the most delightful meal."

"There are many fine restaurants in New Orleans but I keep coming back to Criollo; in addition to the excellent creole food, this restaurant has a staff of friendly, courteous and outstanding service personnel, which is why I keep returning; you are in for a real treat if you are lucky enough to have Lucille as your waitress."

"The Criollo Restaurant was by far the best in hotel restaurant I have ever eaten in. The food was unbelievable. All ingredients were fresh and they were beautifully presented. The martinis from the bar were great. The Carosel bar is quite famous and always packed so that was a fun added extra. The farm to table fare was evident and exceptionalbe."
