"Chef Steven Jones has put together a modern, upscale menu and concept restaurant. The ambiance is cozy with room for groups and corners for couples. The food is a very interesting tapestry of dishes with an unexpected twist in each dish. They offer full and small servings, which is a nice touch. Great appetizers and desserts also. Clear to see why this is rated among the best."

"Went to Blue Hound for the first time on Valentines Day and they had a prix fixe menu which was outstanding. We got the drink pairings which were equally amazing. Our server was fantastic, knew every detail about each dish and how the flavors were complemented by each paired drink. He was also congenial and humorous. The manager came by to check on us and he also showed the utmost professionalism. We had such a great meal that we asked to speak with the chef and he thankfully obliged so we could thank him personally for such a wonderful and creative meal. All in all this was a wonderful dining experience that surpassed both my date's and my expectations. Highly recommended."

"The daring cocktails and adventurous cuisine took our taste buds for an awesome journey. Our guide along the way was probably one of the most knowledgeable yet unpretentious servers we have ever encountered. We had just come from the ballet and it was a perfect upbeat post hang. I could also see this as a great place to start your night (pre-game for the less polished) on your way to night out at the club. Makes me believe there is finally some hip yet upscale culture in downtown Phoenix after all! Check. It. Out."

"From the hostess to the chef, the restaurant felt very comfortable and inviting. The dinner (BBQ Kobe Beef) was superb and service as well. The dessert (Upside down pineapple cake) was to die for :). Thank you for a wonderful experience."

"We took advantage of their appetizers and half-meals to eat our meal "tapas-style". The bacon tater-tots were done perfectly, the Kentucky fried quail was great, and the sauce rib was unique and great-tasting. I say "rib" and not "ribs" because we ordered the half-portion which was one very large rib that was more than enough for the two of us. The service was just that right touch of being timely and helpful without being intrusive. We will add the Blue Hound Kitchen to our list of favorite downtown Phoenix restaurants."

"I put together an entire plant-based meal and was totally satisfied. My waiter gave me many good suggestions, even that i could have small tapas-sized portions of various offerings. I was there on Mother's Day and was offered a chocolate creme brûlée on the house for the occasion. I definitely picked the right restaurant!"

"This was my second visit to BlueHound. I had suggested this restaurant for a friend's birthday dinner due to a positive first experience. I had the kobe short ribs again. The first time the ribs were prepared wonderfully. This visit they were burnt, hard and had very little moisture left. The normally delicious glaze was charred. A second member of my party had the pork belly sliders and the waiter told us that the kitchen burned them the first time so this member of our party had to wait for a new order to be brought while our food was on the table. The second order arrived and our waiter dropped one of the sliders on the ground. Unfortunately our waiter was unapologetic of his poor service and we felt like an afterthought all night."

"While a nice place and a good additiopn to the overall restaurant scene downtown, it is not the type of place we prefer. It seems to be a place where food is artfully presented but is not a substantial interest. More of a place for those who are interested in new venues and not serious dining. A place that I refer to as serving "foo-foo" food.But I am pleased that any new places come to Phoenix with a mix for everyone. I am more used to places like Durants, Stockyards and others in that category where food is the main concern."

"Great atmosphere, but the food never quite makes it. Staff is obviously overrun and, though they try hard, are always a little slower and inattentive than is comfortable. Cocktail menu is awesome. Food sounds good in writing on the menu, but isn't executed to the degree you'd expect (especially for the price). And bring the quail back - it was the best thing on the menu. Almost everything is consistently overcooked. But like I said... the atmosphere is great."

"We love the unique recipes. Also the rare drink list is cool, I love "the darkness cocktail". Very impressed with the cheese plate and pineapple dessert. The prices are fair for the quality. Also very nice touch when staff all signed a card for our anniversary, very nice. A real foodies retreat. Sit on the patio and "people watch" the streets of downtown."

"Snacks and appetizers are the best part of this menu--creative and just big enough to share yet still try a whole bunch of them. Service is "relaxed," which means you kind of have to egg them on if you have a show to go to, but the staff is really friendly so it's hard to get too stressed about the pace. Cocktails were well prepared as well.

"We went in for Sunday Brunch and are VERY happy we finally made it there! The food was great! They had a couple of guys with guitars up at the front of the place. "I was truly impressed by the food and cocktails. I appreciate the talents of a great mixologist and they definitely have that. I was with a large group with picky and diverse eating habits (including a vegan chef) and everyone was pleased. I love the reduced portion options on some of the menu items. The bowl of Gazpacho was HUGE, great, just a huge jump in size from the cup. I also had the ceviche bay scallops and several appetizers. It is a fun balance between a quirky take on classic American cuisine and a modern foodie's bistro. We will definitely be returning and I think the inventive yet approachable cuisine will carve a niche in the downtown Phoenix dining scene. Well done."

"Although the menu is inventive and includes some creative, healthy items, overall it lacked quality. My dining companion asked to switch the side dish and the waitress returned to tell him it would be an extra $5 charge. Really?? That is NOT the way to win over customers. "It's great that a place is open late in downtown for the after-the-symphony diners, where you can hear across the table. The casual food here is just so-so (flatbreads, salads etc) and the bartender needs to learn how to make a DRY martini. However we'll give it an earlier shot, try more of the serious food on the menu and tell the serving person to have the bartender hold the vermouth. BTW, our serving person, Tracy, was a gem. I've heard the brunch is yummy, so thats a thought also."

"My fiancee and i were excited to try the Blue Hound after hearing about it in a couple magazines about being a hot restaurant in Phoenix. We went for brunch with our friends and the food was good but didn't live up to the hype. I had the biscuits and red bean gravy dish and it was probably the best dish out of the 4 we ordered. The punch we had was a special for brunch and while it was tasty, the glass had 5 enormous ice cubes so you really didn't get much of a drink. The location in the city is great, but definitely will go to other places before coming back here."

"We went to the Blue Hound before heading to a Suns game. It was beautiful outside, so we opted to sit on the patio. It was a bit noisy from the street traffic, but expected. We started with cocktails, which were small, but well-made. We had the Kale Casear salad as a starter. It was pleasantly bitter and a nice change on the classic. I had the fried quail with foie gras cornbread and sausage and red bean gravy. Outstanding!! My husband had the short rib that was probably a foot long. After telling the server, part of it was inedible due to it being very chewy on the outside, they brought another that he said melted in his mouth. I would recommend Blue Hound for anyone looking for a real "foodie" experience. The décor was very hip too"

"Overall a very disappointing experience. First, the "snack" or starter of chex mix, which had no chex in it.....a ridiculous $6 for what could not have been more than one cup of spicy goldfish and common pretzles........the tater tots very good but $10 for tater tots?......$16 for tabouleh, with almost no flavor (added tons of salt and pepper and asked for lemon to squeeze on it just to give it some inkling of flavor) with 3.....yes 3 shrimp. The turkey burgers ordered by my guests were reported to be dry.....but all seemed to like the fries......the chicken salad sandwich had almost no chicken salad yet was presented on a HUGE bun....the real and only winner seemed to be the pulled pork sandwich......never to return, thank you"

"We arrived a bit early and they offered to seat us immediately or we could wait. It was a nice touch to give us the option.
We sat by the glass window wall giving us the best view of outside with the comfort of the indoor climate.
The waiter was prompt and attentive- mentioned we were going to the comedy show and he made sure we were not rushed but had everything we needed as he understood this was only part of our evening. He was even savvy enough to down sell me on a shared plate... another server or runner brought our food but knew the status of a missing item.
Great staff, great ambiance,food was delicious. Prices were ok considering location.
Try the mac and cheese!"

"Very disappointed. So many things wrong that could have gone right. Firstly, the address? Google Maps, Yahoo Maps and the restaurants web page all had different addresses. Very hard to find. Disinterested staff walking through their shifts. The menu was interesting...the pulled pork on Johnny cakes was very nice but the Harris Ranch Patty Melt was just odd. It turned out to be 4 sliders with no cheese and sauerkraut and no other flavorings. We tried hards to make this work but it didn't and I doubt it will last long enough for them to get it right."

"This was my first, and most likely last, visit to the Blue Hound. I took a client there for a disappointing lunch. The food was remarkably average and the service surprisingly slow. I ordered the grilled shrimp and what was supposed to be tabbouleh salad. It ate the shrimp, but could not stomach the bland and oddly textured salad (true even after the addition of a gross amount of salt and pepper to try to affect the taste). On a positive note, my client thought the french fries were delicious."
