"From start to finish, it was a nice experience. Server Judy was patient with us since it was our first time there. She was fast to open and serve the wine we bought with us. She made suggestions since several sounded great. What's more important is I saw other servers and staff being just as attentive to their customers. That is a sign of a great place.
We left before seeing Judy. She caught us outside on the sidewalk to thank us for coming and invite us to come again.
I would come back to try other items on the menu recommended by friends who have been here on a regular basis. Chef Lance works magic in the kitchen."

"I am hesitant to go to upscale soul food restaurants as most I've been to come up lacking. That was not the case with Indigo Kitchen, EVERYTHING was DELICIOUS! Most of us were talking about "needing to come back" half way through the main course. Our leftovers didn't even make it home as we finished them on the car ride home, after our show.
There are only two cons to to Indigo Kitchen:
1. It's a BYOB, but there are two liquor stores within walking distance.
2. It is almost impossible to decide what you want from the menu! It all looks so good.

"We decided to try Indigo on a whim, while driving through Montclair one day. We also had seen it on OpenTable and the menu looked good. When we arrived, we were greeted by the matradee and seated at the window, which we enjoyed. The artwork was exquisite and the music reminded us of a coffee house.

"Excellent contemporary take on traditional Southern food. We went to dinner on a weeknight- very convenient after attending the movies in Montclair. Try the pull apart bread with anything (unless you don't like butter) - the brisket and the catfish were both terrific as were the sides.My husband enjoyed the potato crusted scallops as an appetizer. I tried the lobster spring roll which was delicious but the lobster was wasted in it. We were too full for dessert but will definitely return. PS Background music made for a terrific atmosphere."

"What a fabulous meal! Didn't know anything about it; chose it based on reviews. Delicious food. For a mostly BBQ place, lots of non-BBQ and veggie options. Every morsel of food was scrumptious. On a Sunday night the restaurant was far from full other than a few tables and one large party. Given that, we thought the service was a little slow and inattentive. When the waitress came to our table she was friendly and helpful, but there was a long wait between courses. Maybe they need additional help when they have a big party in the house."

Kudos to the evening special, 13 Hour BBQ brisket of beef. Southern fried
checken and greens were outstanding. Although there were no kids there, they would have
a nice time. Cannot understand eating in a burger retaurant, sports bar or Greek diner when food of this quality and level of cooking represents unique all-American fare, frequently televised on the Food Network, but right here in New Jersey, not Savannah."

"My husband and I went to Indigo Kitchen for valentine's day. Loved that most table were filled and we were still able to hear each other speak. The food was excellent. I enjoyed the beet salad. We ordered the specials which were also excellent. I loved that the portions were an appropriated portion and not super sized. It allowed me to enjoy my meal without feeling like I had to unbutton my pants. It also saved room for dessert. The red velevet cake was not a typical layer cake and was fabulous. Definitely want to go back."

"Made a last minute reservation and we were not disappointed. Food was great. It is byob with a great store in walking distance. We had rhe virn soup and scallops to start and both were tasty and light, the soup had great favor and had a nice suttle kick. For our mains we had the ribs and fried chicken. This is a upscale joint so don' expect moms chicken and ribs. Chicken was well seasoned with herbs that added a unique flavor. The sides needed some seasoning work bit the mini biscuits and cornbread were to die for, they just didn't provide enough.The whipped sweet potatoes were delish.Finished with mini donuts which could've been better. The service was extremely slow and they could use better logistics for front of house."

"We went on a Saturday night and had a really great experience. The ambiance was really welcoming with some really good music playing and we were given a really warm welcome by the hostess and the server. The server was very attentive, knowledgeable and friendly and really enhanced our evening.
The main event, the food, was terrific. We started with lobster spring rolls and the scallops, for entrees we had the crab cakes and herb chicken with risotto. We finished with the home made donuts which we were given on the house as we had the last two!

"Great food, great fun and great atmosphere! My compliments to Chef Lance Knowling for having compiled a 5 star menu of some of my down home favorites. The Louisiana corn velvet soup and the lamb chops were absolutely scrumptious! The staff was extremely hospitable and attentive. Chef Lance and his business partner, Leonard Murray even paid us several tableside visits just to make sure our every need/desire was met. Now that's what I call personalized service :-)"
