"The food was decent and it was fun to watch them cook which is the real reason to go there but I couldn't believe how they nickle and dime you for everything. My 3 kids all like brown rice and we asked if that was possible instead of white rice. We were told no problem and were not told there would be an increase in cost, nor did it say on the kids menu that there would be an increase. Well the increase was 2 bucks per kid for brown rice. There were other issues with being charged more for stuff but I'm not going to go thru everything. The sticker shock at the end was crazy and turned the enjoyment of watching the chefs into a negative."

"Went here for Mother's Day. They didn't seat us until 6:25 for a 6:00 reservation. The reception staff was not apologetic at all - they seemed annoyed by us. We were seated at a table in the rear corner of the restaurant and were greeted by a nice server. Eventhough we told her that this was our first visit to a Benihana, she offered no explanations. Our chef proved to be a major disappointment. He had no showmanship except for once when he made a steam engine from an onion stack - no knife skills, no interaction with us, nothing! As for the food, I felt that it was of decent quality but highly over seasoned by our chef. Prices were high for what we got. This was, by far, my worst experience at a Japanese-style restaurant."

"I've always been a Benihana fan. However, it is on the upper end of the price scale for a Japanese steak house in general. Fried rice is considered a side dish for $3.25. However, since it replaces the steamed rice which is paid for with the meal it is actually just an upgrade fee. Not that you need both, but it's the principle. $3.25 seems steep when it is offered for free at other J. steak houses. Also, there is no option for steak and chicken combo unless you order the two-person special or are a child under 12.
It would be reasonable to pay the increased fee if the cooking show was superior. However, they are so busy that the "show" was rushed and not nearly as good the past two times I have been there. Much better at other places."

"I made my reservation early so I wouldn't have to wait, and I was quickly seated upon arrival. We only had to wait a few minutes for our grill table to be filled for our waitress to begin serving us. Our waitress was friendly and considerate and very lively. Our chef, unfortunately was very bland and spoke in monotone. He didn't seem to be excited to be serving us at all. He frequently made mistakes, which I understand - throwing around knifes and tossing food into the air. The food itself was excellent. Allt the vegetables were cooked amazingly and the cut of steak I received was especially delicious combined with all the other foods.
I would go again, but I would really hope to get a different chef, he kinda ruined the whole thing."

"Benihana was a good choice for something different to do with the kids on a Friday night but it's a little pricey and unless it was something they really wanted, not one I would personally choose to do on a regular basis. That said the food was pretty good, our chef was fairly entertaining in his "show" and the server kindly went and had my daughter's meal prepared separately since she is a vegetarian and the same knives are used for everything being prepared for the table. All in all, I wasn't displeased or thrilled, it was "good"."

"This was our third visit with BH Columbus. We have not been let down on any visit. The staff is very pleasant and helpful. The entertainment of the chef is enjoyable, though the routine doesn't seem to change much. We have celebrated a birthday at this location, and enjoyed the way the staff helps celebrate your day. We have enjoyed several items from your menu, all have been fantastic. We will definitely visit again. We would not hesitate to recommend to friends."

"When comparing hibachi style dining, national chain Benihana does not compare to other local restaurants of the same genre. The hibachi chef was comparatively less showy than the competitors. The overall meal price was substantially higher than other local hibachi style restaurants. The wow factor of igniting the grill is not done at Benihana, but the kids were looking forward to it. When planning such an outing in the future, we would be likely to choose another place."

"This was a standard chain restaurant experience at Benihana. Delicious food and service from the chef and waitress was exceptional. The sad part was that we made reservations a day ahead of time, arrived an hour early and spent a decent amount of money at the bar waiting only to have our table given to someone else. The six hostesses at the hostess stand could not manage to keep people's reservations straight nor did they even try to find them in a timely manner. I had been to the hostess stand 3 times prior to the 7pm reservation and they still did not know I was there. Poor service on the hostess' part!"

"It took a bit for the table to heat up but once it was ready, everything went smooth. The server was great and the chef made all the kids laugh (birthday dinner celebration). They were very attentive to food allergies from two of the attendants. We really appreciated the gesture and going the extra mile by cooking the food separetly to avoid any exposure.
Chef made sure to WOW the kids by doing some cool tricks with the knives and the vegetables. And Yeah, grown ups were impressed too!"

"Benihana was a great choice for our group of 6 to celebrate my daughter's 12th birthday with her 3 friends. The service was great and the quality of the food was excellent. The only reason this isn't a 5 star overall review is that they could be a tad bit more kid friendly for the pre-teens. The girls all ordered salads & 2 were surprised at the ginger dressing. I have been to many other teppanyaki/hibachi restaurants in Central Ohio, SC, and FL with my daughter (who loves the ginger dressing & anything oriental) and the others had servers who confirm the ginger with the diners when they order. The girls loved their main dishes and really liked the rice and corn."

"Was very disappointed!!! Our cook took too long to come out. On top of that, our server didn't pass out our salads until after the cook had already came out and someone had to mention it. A gentleman asked the cook "ummm aren't we supposed to get salads too"? At that point our cook started to look for our server to get our salads. We missed our movie that we had already bought tickets for and had to get a later. So overall, our Valentine's day was highly irritated. :"

"The food was good, although they advertise that they have lunches beginning at 7- which they do not. They begin at about 8 or 9 dollars. However, I wasnt looking for that, it was a birthday lunch so I didnt care about cost. However, the special "Boat" that I got should come with an explanation. I'm not new to food prepared Hibachi and actually love it. So thats what I expected when I ordered this item. Wrong-myself and another patron at my table were surprised when our meal came already prepared, which was not expected and a bit dissapointing. And the item cost more than I would have spent on ordering Hibachi. So now I know to order Hibachi only, not the special "lunch boat"."

The ambiance was one of WORKING IN THE KITCHEN...absolutely terrible. There was a 15.00 mistake on the bill and waitress read the menu to us page by page as a fist time visit (un-believable). As a first time visit AND our 25th anniversary "night out" I can't express how disappointed we were and most likely will never go back. Our bill for 2 was $139.00"

"We really enjoied our Benihana experience! We sat at the table area in the bar instead of at the hibachi grill, and our service was extremly speedy. We got our first course less than 5 minutes after sitting down and courses kept coming out as we were finishing up the previous one. Our waitress was extremly attentive and eager to assist us. We had a delicious 5 course dinner and were in and out of the restaraunt in around 45 minutes! I would definately go back for another meal."

"For the price per entree, I was not impressed. We had 7 adults and ordered a variety of entrees to include a few sushi rolls. No alcoholic drinks, soda only, and the bill was $280...and came to around $340 with tip. The grill show was average at best, as most of the chefs aren't even Asian as shown in every add the restaurant has. This was our first time and I will likeky not go back again."

"Our Chef/Cook was amazing, the service rating is not a reflection of his work. Our server on the other hand had to be flagged down MULTIPLE times for drinks and rice even. Not only by us customers, but by the chef as well. Then we had to remind our server that those of us with the combo dinners hadn't gotten our ice cream yet. I would of easily ordered 2-3 more drinks, had my server been in sight. This was my second visit and I had an excellent server the first time. I will go back with hopes I get a different server."
