"I took my friend from Isreal here. It was his first time coming to San Diego. There wasn't much on the menu he could eat, due to his religion, however the chef took the time to speak with us about what he could and couldn't eat. They ended up custom making sushi for my friend. It was the nicest experience and friendliest service I've ever experienced at a restaurant. Thanks again guys !"

"Eating at Benihana's with my wife and children for Mother's Day is an annual tradition. We have been doing this for 5 years consecutive at around the same time, 5pm. 5/12/13 was the 1st service that I have ever felt rushed! Literally, seconds upon the cook/chef leaving our table, the server showed up to ask if we needed "to go" bags. Really? I told him that some of us had "just started". I don't understand why there seems to be a feeling that your guests are eating while the show/cooking is going on, but that is not the case. I would love it if the waiters/waitresses would give you time to "just enjoy" your food after the show. I felt like cattle being herded away, so that the table could be cleared for the next set of guests."

"I waited way to long to be seated after I made a reservation three days in advance and we were early to our reservation. It took 42 minuted to have chef come and serve us after soup and salad was given. I kept asking about the wait time on a wednesday and nobody seemed to know anything!"

"The quality of Benihana's has consistently gone downhill over the past few years. The food is never the same, which is mediocre on most occasions. My husband and I both ordered the fillet mignon; his was tender, but mine was tough. The dinner “show” during our visit was almost non-existent. Benihana’s used to be a staple restaurant for celebrating our birthdays, but is no longer going to be the case. Even a $30.00 birthday meal credit isn’t enough to keep us coming back."

"Our reservation was scheduled for 7:30 pm we arrived at 7:15 and the parking was horrible. I feel like they have minimal parking just so you are forced to pay the valet $5. Which isn't a big deal it's just unnecessary. But other than that the food was exceptional, I ordered the salmon with avo tartar sauce. Our waiter was great, quick and friendly. The cook was not that great though . He hardly spoke and didn't seem to into the show."

"I was very disappointed with the chef. She was not experienced in cooking. She put so much butter in everything. I love fried rice, but I don't think I will be ordering anymore fried rice. This chef made my rice so soggy with butter, all of my food was floating in butter. I kept telling her not to put so much butter, and she just ignored me. All of the other guest complained about their food too. When the manager came to our table I mention about all of the butter being used by our chef. I feel that I should be given a free meal with an experienced chef, that knows how to cook the way Benihana professional chef's cook. Benihana has been my favorite restaurant for more than 30 years, I always celebrate all of my family's birthdays in there."

"Front desk staff awful. Not friendly. They do not pay attention. Chaotic. Bar area noisy. Not the same as in the past. Sat in bar area for 15 minutes and not once were we served or asked if we already got served or needed anything. Numerous passed by. Waiter was very energetic. I think his name was Matt. Very friendly. Cook was as usual the highlight. Excellent skills. Great food. I've been going to this Benihana since the 80s. Scene has definitely changed. No more Asian waitresses nor chefs. I would go hear with friends for fun dinner or lunch."

"Of course everyone knows this is an awesome experience. I have been here millions of times over the past million years... lol I will say that it is due for a make-over. It is the same setting with the same decor and the same experience. I do notice that they have opened up the bar area into an actual seating area, that is a bit crowed on weekends, and awkwardly set so that there is a teeny tiny bar now, with absolutely no standing room, or sitting at the small bar. It could have been thought out better but always fun there, great energetic atmosphere. Wish it were a bit more modernized with the times though. Love the food and the chefs!"

"I have always loved coming to Benihana's, and this time I brought my cousin and her family to celebrate her birthday. I think her 4 year old daughter had more fun watching Erick? Eddy?, the chef putting on the show. Our reservation was at the San Diego location April 13th, 2013 @ 12pm. We were seated and served promptly. Staff was friendly and courteous. After watching my cousins daughter laugh at the chef, I think we'll back for her daughter's birthday next month hahahaha."

"Book a reservation for 5:30, we arrived on time waited 10 min to be seated. After being seated we sat and waited for 20 min for server to ask if we needed anything.... finally asked for the Happy Hour menu and was told it did not apply to where we were sitting. We there then told that we had the table to our selves as the other party never showed. 10 min later after we moved seats we were told we needed to move seats again that we now were having another party sit with us. now it is about 645 and still no food or drinks. at about 7 pm the cook came to the table. The food was good but I have to say I had my 10 yr old with me and we were there to celebrate my older sons birthday. Hungry people do not enjoy waiting for over an hour for dinner"

"We enjoyed a birthday lunch at the Mission Valley Benihana's Restaurant. The teppan chef was exceptional preparing a wonderful meal at Our table that was tasty, delicious and fresh. The service was good and the wait staff was courteous. The ambience was fitting for a Japanese restaurant with ample parking with both off-street and on-street available.
If You want an enjoyable dining experience in nice surrounds prepared at Your table with fresh, high quality food and ingredients, then Benehana's is the restaurant to go to.
Join their birthday club and have a $30. dining certificate sent to you for use during the month of your birthday for use Monday through Friday.

"We love this restaurant its one of my childrens favorites. The only concern I had this time was our chef who clearly was not capable of doing tricks with his cooking utencils twice he was twirling his large fork and spatula which were heavy duty metal and lost control of them and they flew at us. I was concerned he might hit one of the children especially my daughters 9year old guess who I was responsible for."

"We went here to celebrate a college graduation with a party of 21 people. We were split into 3 tables close to one another which was fine. But the only thing was that each table had a different experience and were served at different times."
