"Older female maitre d' was very rude.
Male restaurant manager affable, professionale, but only apologized and hoped we would still enjoy our dining experience.
New male Chef had only worked there for 6 months. Was enjoyable.
Female Server was attentive.
Food was inadequate in amount and cooking throughness. I ordered Teriyaki Beef medium rare. He overcooked as medium. Didn't like it, but in eating environment didn't feel comfortable complaining.
Not a good Dining experience for Mother's Day."

"The waitress was at the end of her shift probably, and while not being rude she was always in a hurry and trying to get through without really committing to serve the customers.
She went thru her scheduled tasks, without minding the customer's needs. Probably the nicest thing she did was for the birthday boy, where she at last had some connection with a customer.
I really did not like when I asked her to take a photo of us with our camera, and her responding "I will when the photo shoot time", which happened way later at the end (birthday for boy) and I had to remind her of my request. Taking our picture would not have taken more than 30 secs from her schedule.
The preparing chef was really polite and nice, no complaints at all with him !"

"This has been our birthday place for over 20 years. My daughter is now 21, and said she wants to always continue this tradition!
The free birthday meal makes it all that much special! With the discount, you can order extra of the things you normally wouldn't.
We have so many Benihana pictures throughout the years that show the growth of my daughter!

"Online reservations never made it to the restaurant. Bar waitress apparently was in a bad mood, drink order was incorrect (missing 3 drinks). Hostess "introduced" the restaurant and specials all of which none of our party heard. Could hardly hear our "waitress" (combination of use of English, soft voice, and LOUD atmosphere. Our chef read our orders back to us but when it came time to cook, he had our order wrong (cooked chicken and shrimp when we ordered chicken and steak). Our party was six, we all ordered different meals but all ended up getting the same food (?).
Not one of the best dinners, steak was tough, as was the chicken. Soup and salad were ok."

"We went to celebrate a work promotion. Our reservation was for 12:30pm and we all arrived on time, but it took until 1:30pm for us to be seated and start eating. That's an hour of waiting... not what I had expected. The chef was very nice and the food was good, but Maybe it's better to go for dinner rather than for lunch."

"We went for my sons birthday. We took a large group of people that had never been to Benihana before and the show just wasn't there. Our chefs didn't know any tricks and the waitress for one of our tables didn't even explain the menu to the group. They had to ask our waitress. The food was good - not as great as other times I have been. I guess it really comes down to the chef that you get. Pray for a good one! It makes the biggest difference!"

"the teppean chef made several mistakes, overcooked chicken teriyaki to uneatable, the other chicken was fine. messed up on other cooking, lost control of utensil in juggling and it sailed off table, just missing a customer who jumped.

"We were seated after about a 15 min wait, which isn't too bad. The night progressively got worse. Our waitress was not attentive and the times that we were able to flag her attention, she almost seemed like she was too busy for us. A few of our questions relating to the drink menu were answered brusquely and swept aside. The chef dropped his utensils more than a few times - so much so that I was afraid one of the utensils would come flying at me. Not a great way to start the dinner show. As for the show itself, it was mainly conducted in Spanish. Yes, we shared the table with a group that spoke spanish, but it's pretty unprofessional to do the entire show in spanish when not everyone understood. Hopefully, it's not always like this."

"The restaurant was nice. The food was good, and the chef did a marvelous job at cooking the food right in front of us. I went there for my birthday, but I did not receive the traditional "Happy Birthday" song, birthday photo, or the birthday icecream. I was disappointed. Our server was a disappointment also. I usually love going to Benihana, but I will not be going back to this location for any special occasion. We usually go to the Ontario location since it is near where we live. The service is great there, and they make sure you receive all the perks that go with the special occasion you are celebrating."

"The wait staff was somewhat friendly but not as much as they should be. The 4 young teenage hostesses stood at their podium while an old woman walked out with a cane and they didn't even go to the door to open/hold it for her. The bartender was extremely rude to my husband who asked to put on the basketball tournament. He told my husband to 'relax' even though my husband politely asked him while holding our 1 yr old- hardly obnoxious at the 6pm hour. We won't be back, even if it is fun for the kids."

"We celebrated by wifes birthday with our daughter and had a great time at Benihana in Newport Beach. The service was excellent and the food was wonderful. They sang Happy Birthday to my wife and she really enjoyed herself and our teen daughter thought this was the best place to celebrate!"

"The waitress whispered when telling us stuff. The whole table laughed when she left and all of us said "did anyone hear anything she said?" I had to order drinks several times just to get something to drink. I finally had to go to the bar because we would order something and never get it. She also didnt clear out the table. At the end of the meal, I had 3 beer bottles, sake bottle and shot glasses, and my salad bowl. And there isnt much room on the tables. Very disappointed, and I spent a lot of money that night, over $150 at the table and another 60 at the bar."

"If this was the first time at a Benihana, it probably would have been the last. Food was not of high quality. The fried rice seemed dry and overcooked. Thought the chef had overcooked it on the grill, however, when received the steamed rice it tasted the same. Obviously over done from the beginning. The shrimp appetizers were way overcooked and dry. For a dinner for two, we shared a small piece of chicken and a little filet. Not as much meat as in the past, especially for the price. Not a good experience this time around, however, due to our many other experiences, we will give it another shot sometime in the future."

"We decided to go to Benihana for our anniversary since we hadn't been before. I made reservations for 7:00 and we still had to wait 20 mins in the lounge. Didn't like that so much. The waitress was nice and the chef seems a little off. We got the filet mignon & chicken for two for $49. Good deal, we got the chicken fried rice since the waitress recommended it. Food was good. I thought the chicken breast was a little dry and tasteless. The filet mignon didn't have much flavor either. I guess it's not marinated before hand.
I liked the free ice cream for our anniversary and photo, that was nice to have."

"We always have a consistently good meal at Benihana's. We went for a birthday (2-28-13) and had a good time. The place is always full, so reservations really should be made. There are always lots of birthday celebrations due to the $30 certificate you can register for, which makes the atmosphere fun and festive. (Be sure to bring your ID if you have a certificate.) We usually get the steak and chicken combo or the steak and shrimp combo. The fried rice is the best around. It's $3.50 extra (versus the steamed rice) but very worth it. We had good service and our chef, Josh, was humorous and friendly. This is usually a special occasion place for us."

"This was the second time we had been there in 3 months. The first time was fine, in fact we had a great time and the food was super yummy. This time, we got stuck in the back of the restaurant where the air conditioner was apparently out. We were right on time, but when we sat down, were rushed to order right away. Our server was marginal at best. Then, the mexican chef overcooked just about everything.
Light years different than our December experience."
