"Sign VERY difficult to see from street. Street VERY busy/congested. No bar. Lost reservation/marked as "no show". I called to confirm reservation prior to leaving my home. Called again to tell host/hostess we were stuck in traffic and would be a little late., when we arrived they had no reservation. Advised them of circumstance. Sat for a half hour being ignored. Then Manager came over to me and my son and apologized. Said he had found the reservation under "no show". He provided our meals free due to the error."

"Atmosphere EXTREMELY loud & unpleasant. Chef & food were good, but the service from the waitress was terrible; she was very inexperienced; spoke too softly & w/n speak up even after I asked her to b/c of the loud noise; didn't offer refills on our water, nor did she give any; very inattentive; took my cocktail glass before I was even finished! Then she got the drink wrong. Also she was extremely slow. She asked us if we wanted dessert way before we were done eating and I felt that was very rude. Obviously she could tell all of us had a lot still on our plates. I asked her to come back in a little while, but she did not so none of got any dessert. I will never come here again and will not recommend your restaurant to anyone."

"It had been years since I'd eaten at a Benihana--I'm not impressed by basic culinary skills. But I was pleasantly surprised by the good humor of the chefs and servers, quality of the food, and size of the portions. Our chef did a great job of timing different foods to keep steaks very close to the doneness requested, tuna seared and perfectly done, and mushrooms slow-cooked to reabsorb juices and fats to make them buttery and not burnt. Lobster tail was slightly overcooked, but I'm picky. Kudos to making it a fun dining experience. Remember to sign up for their e-mail list and get a $30 birthday coupon. Free birthday photo a nice touch. Noisy with clanging utensils and singing; don't expect to have an intimate conversation during your meal."

"Came here with a reservation using the OpenTable service and my family and I got served 30 minutes earlier, great service from the server as well as a great show from the cook! He was very friendly, serving the mom's first and then being very caring about the food that was being served right in front of us. He did a great job at balancing who was receiving which food and it tasted great! My mom's first time in Benihana was a charm! Thanks so much!"

"While I have visited a number of Benihana restaruant's this had to have been the noisiest of all. The food and the staff were great but it was difficult to hear those in our party. Probably not much can be done so I wouldn't recommend this particular one for a first date."

"We had made reservations earlier. We showed up early thinking that a Monday night wouldn't be so busy but to our surprise it was packed. We were told we would have to wait for our original reservation which was fine. The problem is that we didnt get seated until 30 minutes past our reservation time. I kept getting told that we were next to get seated. Meanwhile, 12 other people we sat before use. 12?!?!
They did give us a small discount our bill at the end which was nice of them but all in all in really ruins the mood of your night when you and all the other people in the waiting area are stressed out and having to constantly go up to the hostess who cannot offer any help."

"We've been here many times over the years and always for my fiance's birthday. This year was no exception and we were very happy with the experience. Our chef was really entertaining and did a few tricks we hadn't seen yet. We also really appreciated our server going out of the way to dig up a digital camera that worked (she had said that they were broken at the moment but would try anyway) and got us a group photo at the end. We have one from each birthday we've been to there so that meant a lot. It's that kind of little extra attention to detail that keeps us coming back. Thanks!"

"Came here for lunch for my boyfriend's birthday.
Service: Service is good, nothing notable about the waiters/waitresses, but nothing bad either. I liked our thought! Benihana's is always fun. The chef comes out and cooks in a fun, festive way with some tricks here and there like the traditional "onion volcano" which was fun.
Ambiance: The restaurant is loud and fun with people shouting out happy birthday songs often and the chef's loud cooking. I didn't particularly like the fact that we were seated at the same table as another party, however, they have to seat you with people since they can't have a personal chef per table.
Food: AMAZING! Got shrimp and scallops combo and it tasted so good! The best part."

"I usually go to the Beverly Hills location. This was my first visit to the Santa Monica location. The service was very slow. Maybe it was because I had a large party. We were there for over three hours. The waiters would disappear for long periods of time. I felt they were very unorganized. The Manager never came by to check on us to see how things were going. Usually with such a large party, the Manager will come by. The cooks were okay. The chicken fried rice was partly white still once the cook was done cooking. However, the steak was good and tender. I will continue to visit Benihana's but the Beverly Hills location."

"We've been going to Benihana's for birthdays for years now. The food is consistently good, the cooks all have their own little twist to their shows, and service is friendly. Also, when you sign up via email, Benihana sends you a $30 certificate towards your dinner during the month of your birthday. And you get a nice picture at the end."

"Our reservation was at 1:30 pm and we were seated after our reservation. We even arrived 30 minutes before and there were open tables and they didn't seat us then. In addition we did not get our orders taken right away and our chef didn't come for another hour!!! Although the experience was somewhat nice the service and the all the waiting was not worth the visit."

"I made a reservations for 2 at 9 pm. When we arrived they said it would be a little while. My date and I decided to go to the bar to have the time pass. It took 20 minutes to get the bartender to even acknowledge us. We went downstairs to see if our table was ready. We did not get seated until 9:50 pm. The waitress was very friendly and right away took care of us. As the chef began to cook the people next to us were vegetarian. They asked to have their meal cooked before everyone's. This made us wait an additional 20 minutes for our meal to even began. I truly love Benihana's and I have been coming for many years. I was very shocked at how poor the speed was. My date was very unpleased as this was his first time dinning with Benihana's."
