"We had a 6pm reservation and were seated at 6:30pm. The waitress kept trying to get us to order extras such as fried rice and sushi. We ordered one fried ride and she kept asking if we wanted more.
The chef who cooked at our table made two fried rices but then he gave one to our server and we saw her take it in to the kitchen, I assume to eat it. Not that professional. Then when we were ready to leave she went MIA and we could not locate her. Also, the chicken seemed very dry."

"Benihana's is the place to be for a fun, festive and delicious meal. Their cocktail list is extensive, and their sushi is excellent. The heart of the dining experience is the show that is put on right at the grill. You MUST order the chicken fried rice when dining there. This is a unique dining experience, the food is good & basic, the show is entertaining, and the vibe is fun. A must do experience at least once!"

"I've been going to Benihana for years (decades?) and I have to say that I've enjoyed it on most occasions. But the SF location just seems a bit tired. Might have been my un-discernible server who was quite friendly, but pretty tired of doing her job the night we came. Food itself was cooked nicely, but really had no flavor. The sauces did help a bit. One issue I had was that we ordered a bottle of wine at the bar while we were waiting for our table. When our table was ready there was no offer to bring our drinks and open wine bottle to our table. I hand carried the bottle myself to the table- not a big deal, but in better restaurants this is usually done for you. I found the Benihana in Burlingame to be much better run."

"The evening was excellent. I took my daughter and 4 year old out to dinner for mothers day. The service was wonderful and so was the atmosphere. It was also kid friendly. They had a kids menu also. My grand-baby had chicken and shrimp. There was also a lot of birthday parties for both young and old. It is a wonderful restaurant and I would recommend it for any occasion."

"Group of co-workers for a Birthday lunch. All was very good. Been to 3 different Bennies, including this one. All pretty reliable and expectations are consistently met. Had a wonderful time and our "chef/entertainer" did quite a nice job. Had Rocky's Choice, california roll, and Blue Whale to drink. Definitely recommend."

"Host/hostess not friendly at all. No smile when approached. When asked to get a taxi after the meal, was told that they didn't do that and we should just flag down a cab outside of the restaurant. It didn't take long to get a cab but for someone who is not used to flagging down cabs in the street, it was not a pleasant experience."

"Benihana has been the restaurant for family occasions beginning in the 70's in southern California, to the present in Japan Town, San Francisco. This particular evening we were celebrating our 48th wedding anniversary.

"Our group was 30 mins late for our reservation. But they sat us anyway which was great. The food was really good and fresh. Our chef was very entertaining. My only complaint was the entire host staff. They were all stonefaced or borderline rude. I'm not asking for cartwheels, just a nice demeanor wouldn't hurt. When one hostess got ready to lead us to our tables she said "Are you coming, or what?" Niiiice."

"I have reserved a table at 7:30 for 7 ppl, even though we have 6 ppl and one more is parking, the waitress still said no we can not get a table until all ppl are here. After all here, she gave me the vibrate thing and said please wait 5 mins n next table is ours, while stand over 15 mins, and there was a group went in and sitted down, we were so mad that she promised next table is ours since we been waiting for a LONG time. After sit down we were so hungry ordered the food right away, just want to eat and leave. The lady taking order was not nice and hurry us, so she can do her stuff. Man, I know it is busy but we have been waiting longer than we should, shouldn't we get at least a fair services? Didn't see the chief until 9"

"My friend had never been to Benihana. We made a reservation for 7:30pm and arrived at 7:25pm. We were not seated until almost 8:00pm. The host said it's because someone has paid but had not left yet. The truth is they were waiting for the other parties to arrive for the entire "table" before seating us. I will not go to Benihana again unless we have 8 people in the group so that we won't be in the mercy of other groups to be on time for their reservations.
The food is so so. But who goes to Benihana for the food anyway."

"Great for what it is - decent teppanyaki at a chain restaurant. There's always a birthday in the room, a chef is always flipping a shrimp tail into a pocket/hat, and it never matters how you ask your filet to be cooked (it's coming out well done, medium well if you're lucky). It's overpriced, the staff don't speak loudly enough, and the wine selection is pretty grim, but they have amazing fried rice and it's always a fun time."

"We took our daughter to celebrate her 4th birthday and she had the best time! Our chef Javier was fantastic not only with his routine of cooking tricks he was also very interactive with the guest at the table. Our waitress was also very attentive and went out of her way to make sure our daughter was enjoying herself. So if you have been to Benihana more than once you know the routine but what can change from each experience is the quality of service you recieve from the staff, this time it was very good and would have been outstanding if the host team had been friendlier."

"Was very entertaining. Our chef Armando was friendly and genuinely nice to us all. Talented and friendly. Unfortunately we were sitting in the smoke path and the smoke occasionally would blow to our side of the table. Don't know if the fan wasn't strong enough or if that's just the way it always works. The food was tasty."

"This is a good, solid Benihana's. You know what you are going to get and they deliver.
I must say the food quality at our dinner was better than I remember. The beef and shrimp seem to have gotten an upgrade.
There was a family with small children at our table, and Benihana's is one of the few places outside of Disneyland where this is as much a feature as a detraction :-)
We had fun. While we will not be eating here every week, we highly recommend this location for someone who wants the Benihana experience."

"As a semi-frequent diner of Benihana, four or five times a year, I was a bit miffed with their service the other night. They must not have been properly staffed because we waited 20 minutes to be seated for our reservation, and while waiting at the bar not a single person asked if we'd like something to drink. My husband even got out his credit card to show that we were ready, and still no service. We never got a drink at the bar.
The service did pick up once we were seated, but it was very gradual. Drink orders took 15 minutes at least to receive. Once Miguel, our awesome chef, arrived we were in the clear. He was absolutely fantastic and spot on with his preparation. He saved the night for us."

"This was so fun. Initially, I had been uptight because we had a reservation at 6:00pm and waited til 6:15pm to be seated. But things are very, very organized there and once we were underway, we had a blast. The kids -- ages eight and 12 -- LOVED it. After, they asked if they could have their birthday parties there. This is really a family place. Not a quiet cozy evening for couples. But maybe a noisy evening for a loud couple. (Drinking helps combat the din in there, especially if you are childless and aren't fortunate enough to enjoy the peculiar selective deafness that people with children seem to have. Luckily, their wine list was great.)"

"Ended up being seated with 2 ladies and 3 kids. All 3 kids were having meltdowns. The Chef did not really have a positive personality. He was bouncing the food off the ceiling fan instead of into his hat and pocket. He did cook well though. They might want to consider asking people if they want to be seated with groups of children. I've been there before and had a positive expierence."

"Brought my husband here for lunch on his birthday. As always we are impressed by the chef's cooking. We ordered the NY steak and chicken fried rice. The fried rice is a must order. It's really addicting and good. Benihana's in SF was a good experience but the Benihana's in Burlingame is way better and bigger."

"We had a reservation for 7:00 P.M. and arrived at 6:40 P.M. We let the people in charge know that one person was on her way. We preordered a meal from the menu to be able to be called. That last member of our party arrived at 6:55. We saw that everyone that came after us was let in but we had to wait about a whole hour to get our table. We had two elderly in our party: one of them disabled; some others had skipped lunch to be able to eat a whole meal. Finally, after talking to every person available to help us, including the manager, we were seated. Our frustration was released when the manager had some hord'ouvres sent to our table, while the chef finally came to prepare our dinner. However, we had a good time with the people next to us."

"We've been going to Benihana's for my son's birthday for several years now, and we always have a great experience. This time I was disappointed that although we had a reservation for 6:00 and arrived on time, we were not seated until 6:30 and had to show our annoyance in order to be seated then. The chef was entertaining and engaging. Even though we'd seen most of the "show" before, there were a couple of individual twists to keep it fresh. The food was plentiful and tasty. We'll be back next year!"

Apparently we were not assigned a server so we sat another 20 minutes to 30 minutes without water menus, until I finally flagged someone down to get us our server. We still had a good time food was good, but the service just wasted there"
