"We were delightfully suprised with the English Inn. The historic ambience and beautifully maintained grounds are what initially greet you. Once you catch your breath, the inside of the restaraunt holds up to the expectations set by the outside. The service was impeccable and precise. The dishes were all well-prepared, timely and unique. The manager stopped at the appropriate time to make sure that our meals and experience were up to snuff. Absolute musts: Churchill's Manhattan and the table side Cesear Salad.
Near misses: not a fan of Yorkshire Pudding (maybe its an acquired taste). The wine list rated from reasonable to eclectic choices but some of the vintages were unavailable. I would rate the wine list 4/5 stars."

"There are few fine dining opportunities in the Lansing areas so the English Inn is a common choice. The menu is "classic" British/ French. It never seems to change much, and locally sourced, seasonal, farm to table, organic, or free range don't seem to be part of the vocabulary there. I found my entree, fish with a lobster stuffing, a bit bitter, while the other entree, appetizers and desert were fine but nothing special. Service was quite slow with not enough waitstaff for the full dining rooms."

"Took my wife to the OEI for her birthday celebration. This was our second time there and had a wonderful time - Again! Changed # in party last minute and OEI adjusted reservation and seating without problem. Online reservations offers special occassion flower arrangements from local florist and they were spectacular as well. Service was super, timing was impeccable, and the food - well, it's all good. Wonderful time was had by all. Definately looking forward to the next time. Cheers!"

"Had a delightful dinner w family celebrating my mother's 90th birthday. Everything was top drawer! The lobster specials were wonderful - warm roll, crisp greens in salad w cheese crouton and yummy lobster tail! Lovely view of the river and pergola. The staff accomodated mom's wheelchair and provided excellent service. We will be back soon."

"As first time customers, My husband and I were surprised by the somewhat casual wear of the patrons as the on line menu and prices suggested a more formal eating experience. I loved the small cozy dining rooms, each with a different character. The pianist who plays on Friday and Saturday evenings was great and added to the calm, leisurely atmosphere. The invitation by the staff to wander the unoccupied rooms and grounds of the Inn was a special treat. The food was very good. We definitely plan to return to try more dishes and the outside eating area near the downstairs pub and gardens when the weather warms. The wait staff were attentive, well-trained and friendly."

"Beautiful surroundings. Nice ambience. Disappointed in food/service. We were seated promptly and given water and butter pats. We asked for bread multiple times. Oddly enough there were servers walking amongst the tables with a basket of rolls and they never approached our table! We finally just gave up asking. Our water glasses were kept full. We ordered the table side prepared Caesar salad which was very good. Ended up the highlight of the meal. Our main courses of filet mignon and medallion trio were mediocre at best. The trio was very tough and grisly and it was the more expensive plate; filet was tasteless. We love to eat out and love to find those diamond restaurants. English Inn did NOT even come close to measuring up."

"The English Inn is considered a special destination for all occasions. While the inn itself is as special as its service, the food left something to be desired. I took my administrative assistant there for Admin Asst day. I had the steak sandwich which is served open face. I wasn't asked how I wanted the steak prepared and when served, the steak was VERY well done. My guest had the chicken sandwich which she said she enjoyed. We both had the mashed potato salad. I found it to be very good, however my guest thought it had too much mustard. Overall a slight disappointment."

"This is our absolute favorite romantic date night/celebration spot. Anniversaries, birthdays, you name it, the English Inn is our favorite place to celebrate. We were fortunate enough to have the rehersal dinner for our wedding here as well, and even though they were cooking for 50 rather than individual tables the quality was still exceptional. Over the years we have gone to other high end restraunts that are comprable in the market and we always find ourselves paying more and being far less satisfied with both the food and the atmosphere. Not only do you get a fantastic meal in a classy location, but if you just aren't ready to end the evening, you can stroll through the unoccupied bedrooms and outside inthe gardens and down to the river."

"We went to the English Inn for Easter dinner with two of our friends. We have made this a tradition for the past few years. We enjoyed sitting in the sun room and having a delicious meal. Each of us ordered something different and we were delighted with every menu item we chose. Also the dessert plate was so tempting we had to try some of that too. We expected to pay about what we did because this was a very special day."

"The English Inn is a wonderful place for a everything from a special meal for two to a festive wedding reception! I used Open Table to request our Easter Dinner table in the garden-view room. This dining area has windows on three sides, with a lovely view of the grounds and Grand River. Another great place to sit is in the 'living room' -- more formal seating in plush surroundings that includes a fireplace. When you go, try the smoked salmon bruschetta appetizer...we loved it! Everything I have ever tried on the menu has been cooked to perfection and presented with a flair. To make the evening last longer, we just had to order after-dinner coffee and dessert!"

"We went to the English Inn for the first time. The food and service was excellent. Our waitor, Don, was excellent. We had the duck sausage in a pastry as an appetizer which was very good. I had the stuffed quail which was one of the best dishes I have ever had. The ambiance is a nice change from the chain restaurants. I would definately recommend it as a place to go for a special occasion. Make time to walk around the grounds as they are beautiful. It is a nice place that is 'off the beaten path.' It is worth the drive from the Lansing area."

"The English Inn is simply beautiful - when you walk in, a hostess takes your coat and you are seated immediately. There is already lemon water on the table, and as soon as you are comfortably seated, someone comes around with a fresh warm dinner roll. The salad (with house dressing) was mostly greens and a few pecans but the bonus was a piece of toasted baguette with a fabulous creamy spread. For dinner we ordered the lamb and pork. Both were cooked to perfection and came with veggies - his also included mashed potatoes, and mine had baked polenta which I had recently been interested in trying and was thrilled with. Very tasty. I can't say enough about the cheesecake, and my glass of house Merlot was excellent."

"We had a Groupon. Our waiter told us we could only choose from certain items off the menu. We chose to order up anyways and he said he would deduct the Groupon from our bill, but we only got the price we paid for the Groupon taken off, didn't get any of the other benefits we were supposed to get with the Groupon like the free bottle of wine. It was definitely not worth buying the Groupon and we were not impressed with our waiter's service or attitude. We drove 35 minutes each way to dine at this restaurant-the food was good but not good enough to make the trip again. If you live closer it would probably be worth trying."

"This is a true experience in luxurious dining with impeccable service. The ambiance is second to none on the greater Lansing area . For intimate romantic evenings to extravagant elegant celebrations. The grounds are like a trip back to England with manicured gardens and open views to the Grand River. "We were so thrilled to take our neighbors to The English Inn for their first visit. We were lucky to tour several of the bedroom accommodations as well as enjoy a delicious dinner in an atmosphere that allowed for easy conversation. Our anglophile neighbors loved it and my husband and I were delighted to visit the Inn again. We will definetly return for the summer views."
