"We heard it was great food and ambience. We were celebrating so we wanted it to be nice. I thought it was more like a coffee shop atmosphere than the fine dining prices. Our server was really nice. The food was okay but it didn't warrant the prices plus it's definitely not a special occasion type restaurant."

"I took my wife and kids to celebrate her birthday, and it was perfect. Chandler's is our favorite spot, we have been there as a couple for a romantic dinner on the ocean view patio, other times for happy hours in the outdoor lounge with a live band, and with our kids. They always deliver. Food is delicious, service excellent, wine choices abundant. Definitively try it."

"We were seated outdoors on the patio. The view was beautiful. The waiter was not knowledgeable about the wine and had to leave to ask someone. The menu is really limited. On a slow lunch day, it took half an hour for my mom to get her onion soup. It was very hot with a yummy cheesy top. It took another 45 minutes to get our sandwiches and salad. My daughter's turkey sandwich was beautiful-turkey, avocado, roasted red peppers, lettuce, tomato, toasted bread but no chipotle sauce which she had ordered on the side. The sweet potato fries were great. My mother's half a turkey sandwich was a mess-no avocado, no lettuce, no roasted peppers, no chipotle sauce, untoasted bread. My Chipotle Ceasar salad with shrimp was just OK."

"My son took me here for a belated Mother's Day dinner. We were impressed by the calmness of the lobby. The table we had was at the window as it was too cool to sit outside, although many tables were filled. The food was excellent, starting with the beet salad. My son had the rib-eye steak which was cooked perfectly. My husband had the filet, which also was cooked to his taste. I had the sea bass. It was exactly the right size, and the spinace was delicious. The desserts were also excellent.
My son works at a local resort and said he would certainly recommend this restaurant. We were very pleased with the experience."

"I live here in La Costa and had been looking forward to dining at Chandler's. Beautiful spot and nice new hotel. The Valet service was excellent. Decided that Mother's Day would be the day to dine at Chandler's with my daughter and family. I expected much more for the cost of the meal. A Ceviche appetizer was minimally presented in a cereal bowl and was not as the menu described. Very little fish. I had the lamb and it was OK. Desert followed and more of the same. The huge bill came and I was really disappointed in the over all experience. Would I recommend to a friend? Depends what they are looking for..."

"Overall, I thought the food and service was good. However, I felt the prices were high for the value, service and ambience that the restaurant offers. The experience reminded me of a diner type restaurant attempting to be an upscale establishment.
I would only come back or refer friends for happy hour."

"We each ordered the hamburger, and while it was good, we asked for medium rare and got medium well. The side salad was good lettuce but the dressing was overly oily. A lite dressing would have been much better. The fries were yummy too. The view is beautiful as the patio faces the beach. Nice place - but the food does not match the prices charged. It's a hotel."

"We wanted a table overlooking the ocean but it was not completely covered, i.e., there was sun coming through the slats. Hello skin cancer! So we ate inside at a table next to a noisy kitchen :(( The lobster bisque was terrible (fishy and some bad bad flavoring)-- possibly the worst soup I've ever had. My fish tacos--despite the elaborate description on the menu--were no better than Rubio's but cost 5 times as much. My sister's ham sandwich (yes, they screwed up a ham sandwich), had a very strange flavor and she ended up trying to use the table bread to resurrect her sandwich. The French onion soup (that replaced the lobster bisque) wasn't much better...stringy rubbery cheese. As you may have guessed, none of us will be returning."

"We went to chandlers for saturday lunch as we hoped for a relaxing meal with a view before check into a local resort. The view didn't disappoint even though the weather wasn't great.
The rest of the experience wasn't up to much at all.
The waiter didn't know what beers they had and our first 2 choices they had run out of.
Food was mediocre, lamb pita was tasty but overcooked and dry, salad we had was reasonable.
Service was horrible, maybe 5 tables with customers and took forever for drinks, water, bread, food, we eventually received the check and nobody came back to pick up the credit card so went to find someone to pay and get out of there."

"I live right around the corner from Chandlers, it's very convenient so I take advantage of it, but I wish they would step it up a bit. The restaurant was truly empty, but I had to continually wait for drinks, etc. b/c the staff was congregating in the kitchen as opposed to paying attention to the tables. My wife made a mistake on the timing of the basketball game, the bartender decided to talk down to her, which really bothered me. I literally had to flag someone down three times to get service, a bit frustrating given the emptiness of the place. Food was good as were drinks."

"We had four friends in town from Dallas, TX who come to Carlsbad every year so they are very familiar with the restaurants and bars in town. Took them to Chandler's on Monday night and they were blown away. Fabulous food, atmosphere, and location. Doesn't get much better than this!"

"The food was GREAT !!! Everything was unbeliveable ! Service at the bar was real good but the Service for dineing could of been better. Had to ask for water. Butter and they didn't give me a steak knive for my steak. Had to ask for that. But the food made up for the lack of good service. We just chalked it up to our waiter was new, you could tell he was really trying . We will be back and will tell anyone it is worth it. Complements to the Chef :) GREAT menu :)"

"My g/f and I had dinner here on a saturday around 7:30. The place is very clean, noise wasn't too bad even with live music in the back ground which actually added to the experience. Food was great, drinks were a little expensive, however they were very good. Highly recommended for 2 people or groups up to 6. Can't go wrong with any of the desserts."

"This place is a newcomer to Carlsbad and I've actually been here once before when they first opened. Both occasions were lunch engagements, and the place is relatively quiet at lunchtime. It's got beautiful views of the Ocean, and the hotel and restaurant are very sleek modern. The menue offers a nice selection, and the food is quite acceptable. I didn't find the French onion soup all that authentic, but it was still good. My one negative is the service: it's very slow. We had to ask for a food server from other staff passing by, after waiting quite a while for someone to show. The server was friendly and competent once he got there, but, again, the food was very slow in coming. I liked the place, but service needs to be more attentive."

"I had a very hard time with the food this time. We have eaten here before and had a great dinner. This time the $11.00 salad was tiny and had hardly any toppings. The item I ordered off their gluten free menu was served on flour tacos and looked really dry any ways. The wine selection was boring at best and marked way to high with the cheapest bottle being at $36. It used to be a good restaurant for locals but I would say it has degraded itself into just a hotel restaurant. Very disappointing."

"The lobby of this new local resort sparkles. The location provides a view of the ocean. Took my husband here for mid week breakfast for his birthday. There were only about four tables full at 10am. We waited over 10 min for a waiter to take our order and then 15 min for food delivery. My oatmeal was cold. His omelet was ok. We will try it again for lunch in six months. Perhaps this was a bad morning."

"We enjoyed our dinner very much at Chandler's. What we did not like at all was the noise level. We wanted to have a romantic dinner and the place was so loud that we had to yell at each other to be heard. (our waitress said the same thing). I had been there once when Chandler's first opened and spoke about the noise levels then. They need to get sound buffers or separate the restaurant from the bar somehow. We may go back for happy hour but not for a nice quite, romantic dinner....as it is not worth it!"

"Our first time was very pleasant. The staff was very attentive and the atmosphere was perfect. Food was very good, just had one small issue with the cut of Ribeye... Not what I expected. Besides that, everything else was excellent. I would definitely recommend Chandlers to everyone."

"This is our second time. The only problem I see is we were seated in the booths by the kitchen both times....a little too noisy. Dishes dropped and pans slamming. Staff is always kind, professional and a pleasure to have serve us. Even though it's just down the street from where we live, you feel like you're on vacation."

"Constantly awesome food and service makes Chandler's a great spot in Carlsbad. The kitchen team really shines with every course. On this visit, I chose the tuna tartar, an unusual presentation of fresh, vibrant cubes of tuna with a light sauce, served chilled. The salad was a remarkable pear and spinach salad with arugula and candied pecans. House-made candied pecans! Layered and dressed with an airy taste, the salad was remarkable. The pears were both fresh and sliced thinly enough to give some crunch and taste buttery smooth. Main course was a lamb special, with the perfect char on the chops and a sales with a hint, just a hint, of mint. Service is skillful, timing if delivery was great, with a friendly, professional demeanor."

"Went on Valentine's Day with my wife. Were seated on the patio with a view of the ocean to enjoy the sunset. Our knowledgeable waiter was there when we wanted him, and gone when he was supposed to be. Hate hovering waiters! Had the food-wine-pairing "special" for $62 per person. The wines were wonderful, from the salmon/caviar appetizer to the chocolate dessert. We both had the lobster and steak entree. Each of us RAVED about the steak. Easily as good as we've had at the best S.D. chop houses (Ruth's Chris, Donovan's, or Fleming's). But the lobster was one of the worst attempts at seafood I've encountered in my 50+ years in the area. Bland, limp...sad. That aside, we LOVED our night at Chandler's. We'll go back; we live 5 min away."

"The lamb and steak were both very good. I really liked the scallop carpaccio, it was very fresh and flavorful. The server brought us one wrong appetizer but she promptly replaced it with the one we ordered. We were seated at a booth table that faced the sunset like we had requested in our reservation. There was another open booth next to the window and we asked to be moved but the hostess would not accomodate us. Perhaps someone else with a reservation had requested that specific table.
The restaurant and the Hilton hotel lobby both have a nice modern and colorful decor with lots of artful glass, stone and woodwork.
Overall, we were very pleased with the menu and atmosphere and had a romantic Valentine's Day experience."
