Comodo
“Comodo is about a personal love story with a region and its flavors but keeping it true to the environment where it is found. It is a menu very personal to who I am-an autobiography written in food. This food is what happens when you take a Colombian-Spanish-Mexican-Brazilian-American that has adapted to New York” explains Felipe Donnelly, who will oversee the kitchen.
Comodo is a restaurant, inspired by Latin American influences but diners won’t find tacos or mole on the menu. Rather, the cuisine uses the flavors and the technique but varies from the traditional menu. It will serve Latin food seen through the prism of current New York dining trends.
The décor of the 45 seat restaurant will convey the feeling of dining at home with a wooden communal table to observe the activities in the semi-open kitchen. An exposed brick wall with banquette seating along with vintage mirrors and candle light contribute to the rustic ambiance.

Cauliflower flavor is overwhelming, too much mayo. Cochinita good, octopus could be better.
Wine was regular to bad, nothing spectacular or great quality yet the amount of wine in the glass was very little, as if they were serving the finest wine. Beer as well, a small glass was half empty.
Drinks are overpriced for its quality."

"I went back for brunch a week later and had an amazing time again. Great food. Delicious sangria, Wonderful service. This time we got to meet Felippe, the chef/owner of Comodo and he was a lovely spirit. No wonder the food and energy there are so enchanting. It a reflection of his caring soul. "Live around the corner and used to frequent space when Salt was there so we knew room would be loud ahead I time. Enjoyed experience and hope to go back. Not really a neighborhood place that you can pop into since we have tried and usually seem to need a res. Doubt we would make res again but if table open when walking by would definitely go back - just wouldn't plan it."

"I almost hate to tell people how great this tiny little spot is. Inventive (wild boar with fiddlehead ferns?! A Caesar of Brussel sprouts and Avacado?!!!) delicious and hip. Great servers who have an actual personality. The only drawback, I there is one, is the size of the space, but hey it's New York. It's amazing thy they can pump out all that flavor from a closet sized kitchen. Go now before these people get discovered."

"It's one of those restaurants that you accidentally find and that get scared that you may have just as well never stumbled into it. Everything about our dinner was perfect. Immediately upon walking in, I thought "home..this could be my house, I never want to leave." The place filled up but never got oppresively loud. It was ideal for a date-type conversation. Let's talk about our server Erik: what a genuinely pleasant, attentive and fun person. Perfect service. And don't even get me started on the food. That duck... that yucca.. even the fiddlehead ferns that came with the boar were exquisite. Also, don't leave Comodo without asking your server for the story of how the restaurant started. It will warm your heart. In one word - FANTASTIC."

"This place is very special. The menu is limited but they but a unique twist on foods such as brussel sprout caesar salad. The duck is my favorite. I really don't even eat duck/meat very often but this is exceptional! Despite the food, and the romantic and charming atmosphere I think by far the most amazing thing about this place is the customer service. It is EXCEPTIONAL. I have never been to a place where I see almost every table ask for the manager just to say they could not have asked for a better experience. When they seated us just 10 minutes late they brought us sangria and an appetizer on the house and apologized profusely. Please go and support this very special place!!"

"My wife and I went to a late dinner on our anniversary, This restaurant has an air of eclectic flare and life.From the very accomodating staff to the amazing food. I had the cauliflower that had a pleasant spice to it, The cilantro soup was very good but the Scallops are a must !!!! My wife called me from work the next day just to talk about it. We ended our meal with the flourless cake, a perfect meal for a great evening of celebration with my wife."

"The food was great. Our group (of 4) loved everything that came out. The service left a bit to be desired. It seemed they kept forgetting our drink orders. It took 15 minutes to get a mimosa. And a coffee was forgotten. That arrived 20 min later. For those of us who got our coffees from the start, they forgot the creamer until our coffees were already ice cold. Our table shared every plate from start to finish. One plate was set on our table for a few minutes, and w/o explanation or comment of any sort, the waiter quickly came back and took the plate away, only to bring it back to us 5 minutes later; again without explanation. A bit odd, and one of our guests was suspicious. Otherwise, service did improve. Again, food was terrific!"

"Once I heard the story of Comodo, I was very excited to try it. The ambiance is just wonderful, very cozy for a small group of friends or a couple looking for a romantic dinner. The menu was really interesting as well. All the food was tasty, but I wouldn't say it was so outstanding that I would go back solely for that reason. If you are not a huge foodie though, I am sure you would be delighted with the food. The service was however, truly outstanding as they were very attentive."

"The food was good, not great. The service was slow. It took 15 minutes before we ordered drinks and then a lot of time in between with little attention from the wait staff. all in all dinner lasted with 1 drink, an appetizer and an entre lasted 3 hours. At one point I beckoned the 'manager'/maitre'd' )who was just standing around, so we could order drinks and he just went and got our waitress and it took her another 5 minutes to get to us. He should have come to ask what we needed instead of just standing around looking. Oh, and only wine and beer, no hard liquor.

"I was greeted right away by the owner and had a wonderful chat while waiting for my girlfriends to arrive. I loved the Brussel sprout salad and the desert - flour less chocolate cake. The wild boar dish was not a pulled/ slow cooked wild boar, but a tough piece of meat. It was too dry and lacked very much flavor. The potato au gratin alongside was delicious. We stayed late and they were clearly wrapping up, which was totally fine, but it took forever to get the check and pay. Ambiance is beautiful - great west village charm. I would certainly go back, just didn't order the right dish for myself! It's very cozy and romantic - great for friends or a date. They also have a lovely long table for groups"

"Very nice tapas restaurant just south of Houston. Especially enjoyed the kale & quinoa salad, the brussel sprout caesar salad, the swordfish ceviche, the duck & the steak. All fantastic. The one dish I was not crazy about was the octopus; I found that the sauce solidified fairly quickly so that after the octopus was swallowed I had this gelatinous stuff left in my mouth. Great ambiance, excellent service with a lovely staff. Take note that they only serve wine/beer/sake."

"We live in the neighborhood and have been trying to stop in for some time. After several failed walk-in attempts, we finally made a reservation for a quiet Sunday evening. There were a couple of large groups celebrating some special occasions and only a few smaller parties, but we felt cozy and comfortable! Definitely a nice place for a group, if you can book in advance, It's a great little space and the staff seems more like a family than a business.
Although the menu is small (and I'm assuming it changes frequently), our dishes were great. We had the poblano pepper pasta and the duck --- both very tasty and filling. The wine selection is extensive and we found some reasonably priced bottles.
I will definitely come back!"

"My husband took me for an early Valentine's day dinner. The food was great, real homecooking with a flair. Read about their humble beginnings in the NYT and it lived up to the hype. A bit cramped and if business is good they could use an upgrade to a larger space."

"Delicious creative sophisticated South American cuisine. Truly the best meal we have had in several years. And reasonably priced. It was our first visit to a restaurant very near our apartment that our neighbors have been raving about. This would be my first choice for the place where, when I win the lottery, I would eat nearly all my meals, after putting in a fabulous chef's kitchen which I would never use."

"Outstanding in all respects. Finally a new restaurant worthy of the hype.
The caesar salad was 1980S California weird looking but excellent. The short rib "paella" was fantastic. Great value and quality on the wine list. Dark, beautiful people, excellent privacy, fantastic delicately-prepared deserts. Attentive but not hovering serving. No complaints whatsoever."

"Great main dish, twist on Eggs Benedict. Pretty empty when we first arrived. Friendly service. Fresh brewed drip coffee - was slow but that's because it was being brewed. Sort of expensive but free refills. Sadly, the churros weren't that good :( But the rest of the food was good and prices were reasonable."

"We tried every appetizer on the menu, tapas style for the table, and loved a few of them (the cilantro soup is a standout, and we really enjoyed the brussels sprout salad and cauliflower gratin). The coffee-rubbed cochinita came highly recommended by our server, but we found it bland and uninteresting. The scallops were lovely. Desserts were ok. White wine selection was a disappointment. Service was good although they forgot two of our appetizers until we reminded them, at which point they had to reset plates and silverware. We really wanted to love Comodo but based on this first experience, it seems overrated and we probably would not return."
