Our new San Diego home is located in the Carez Hizar House (circa 1889), a Coronado historical landmark on Loma Avenue almost at the corner of Orange Avenue. We are within walking distance to beautiful downtown Coronado, the Hotel Del Coronado, and the beach. A French inspired bistro where people feel comfortable and enjoy fresh rustic fare at reasonable prices. Sourcing locally to achieve maximum freshness and offering our customers what they want instead of following culinary trends. If your desire is a casual tapa at the bar or a dinner with friends or colleges, Chez Loma under new management, offers an inviting space to relax, enjoy and socialize.
"The service is fantastic, ambiance is beautiful. I wouldn't recommend the curry chicken sandwich, but the french dip and onion soup are amazing. The sourdough bread is fantastic, too."

"We live in San Diego but go to Coronado specifically to eat at this restaurant since we first tried it. Very uniquely in a "house" with great food, great service and great atmosphere. The perfect place for a special occasion or just a romantic evening. You will be surprised how reasonable the food and beverages are."

"We enjoyed the fusion-French food at Chez Loma, and the bread (not baked on the premises) was superb. I had garlic sausage (again, not made on site), with fava bean puree, asparagus, and mustard. My companion had duck tacos with guacamole. Both were delicious. The service was a bit slow; the server seemed to have to do everything, from hosting to fetching to serving. The place is very pretty, a nineteenth century house with a porch (the bar) and several cozy dining areas. The only downside is the difficulty of parking without paying a fee to a garage. I had a coupon which I could not use due to my own lack of careful reading, but I did not care because I really want to go back."

"My wife and I decided to return to Chez Loma for our Wedding Anniversary because every time we have been there the experience was wonderful. The food and ambiance remind us of classic small restaurants in France; but with that distinctive Coronado vibe. It never fails to surpass its reputation!"

"Vowed to come back after eating here during an anniversary dinner with my wife last January. I was able to do so this week during a convention and brought 3 colleagues - they all loved it too! Great job on the duck and pepper steak. Looking forward to my next San Diego trip!"

"My wife and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. Everything was great-food and service! My only complaint was the duck I ate was not crispy. Other than that we loved it!"

"We are hopeful for this newly re-opened neighborhood restaurant. The interior of this old victorian is light and airy, greetings are warm and sincere and the menu interesting. So close, and yet I feel like the chef is trying a little too hard to go with the trends. Beef Bourguignon is wonderful and the scallops on cauliflower puree with orange coulis were perfectly cooked. However, the hard, heavy chewy bacon on the plate with the scallops were, as the french say, "de trops". More cauliflower puree (inspired)and baby fava beans and you have it made!"

"My husband and I went here to celebrate my birthday and both of us loved the experience. From the amazing food to the fantastic service from Sabrina, we will definitely be back any time we are in Coronado. Additionally, the other server and the hostess were incredibly nice and wonderful to talk to."

"Food was good but nothing spectacular. Only 2 wait staff for the entire restaurant. Appetizer was tepid by the time they brought the bread which went with it ... only after promising it 3 times and I had to specifically ask for it."

"We have eaten at Chez Loma several times in the past, usually when we are in San Diego for more than a day. We had an early reservation and intended to order from the Prix Fixe menu, but as we were seated the waiter informed us that the Boeuf Bourguignon was not available (one of three prix fixe options) because the chef was going to make it fresh the next day. Consequently, we had to order from the regular menu, which meant we spent more than we had intended. From the wine menu we ordered two glasses of Riesling, but the wine was not Riesling. I am not a wine connoisseur, but I can tell the difference between a Riesling and a dry white wine, but the wine provided was good and complemented the meal well. A disappointing evening."

"At one time Chez Loma was the best dining experience in Coronado, but they lost their way putting in the bar and loud music to attract more of the younger crowd. It became a really uncomfortable dining experience.
The new owners have greatly improved the physical plant in a subtle way and it once again is a comfortable place to dine. Its small and with the bar taking up its largest room has little hope of generating the volumn necessary to attract and keep first class talent.
While not back to its old standard, its worth a try."

"Food was good, and the restaurant is cute and cozy; but the service lacked a personal touch. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary, and intentionally picked Chez Loma as we were hoping to have a personal, unique experience but it failed to deliver a special touch. Unfortunately, our waiter did not even know that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary even though this info was provided during booking. And then, upon becoming aware of it as we informed him, the waiter did not do anything special other than wishing us "happy anniversary guys!". Most restaurants that we have been usually go extra mile to show appreciation to their customers for patronizing their place; Chez Loma seems to take its patrons for granted."

"We found while the people were very nice the service should have been much better for such a small Resturant. Food was very good but warning you need side dishes and starts as portions are on the small side. It's a nice place but a bit too stuffy."

"This was our first time at this restaurant and we definitely will return. The old home feeling made it very comfortable and the smaller romm(s) gives it intimacy. We had "escargot" prepared in a very unique way (one of the best we have had) and the "roast duck" was just cripy enough and a great flavor. The waitress was very attentive yet gave us all the time we wanted. Great place to dine."

"Food good, service not so good. Got there at 8:10PM for 8:00PM reservation, had to wait in the bar for 15 mins for a table to open up, then they sat us (two people) at a table directly in front of the open front door (cold, drafty) and table legs were wobbly. Waitress passed us a dozen times, never stopped to take our order. We finally asked to be moved to a warmer table with better service. Moved us upstairs, waitress took our order right away, but it took another 20 mins for appetizers to arrive - made a meal of the bread. Food was good, my scallops were tepid, not hot, but good. Don't go there if you don't have 3 hours to kill, we left after 11:00PM."

"A great place for a nice date. The food is very good, especially for the price for comparable fare. They have some unique twists on French food. I had the Chilean Sea Bass and it was served on a bed of cauliflower puree. I normally don't like cauliflower, but their puree was so flavorful I had to soak up every last drop with bread. Wait staff is very friendly and it's just a cozy place to have dinner."

"Went for a friend's birthday. The total experience was a hit. Loved the charming setting, complete with twinkle lights outside, inviting. The service was perfect, friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. The wine list offers a nice variety and is affordable. We loved the salads, arugula/spinach, lightly dressed and delicious. The duck with cherry sauce had good flavor, but was a bit too dry like it had been waiting. However, the scallops were a huge favorite.
My party and I will return to try some of the other delicious sounding dishes and to have a lovely dining experience."

"We split the beet salad - 3 different colored beets and beautifully put on the plate. I had the duck with chopped cabbage and sweet potatoes. It was so good, that I didn't want it to end. I forgot what my wife had, but she said hers was fabulous. We split the chocolate pot de creme. Good-sized portion, smooth and it was quickly eaten. It was the best dinner!"

"We were a bit surprised to find Chez Loma under new ownership and the fixe price special no longer available on the weekend. Food was very good, but some of the included items were no longer included in the meal. i.e. olives with oil and balsamic vinegar for dipping bread."
