Henry's Place
Henry's Place presents sophisticated American and European cuisine in an elegant atmosphere. Our restaurant is named for one of Louisville's most famous and important citizens, Henry Watterson. Mr. Watterson traveled widely in America and Europe and dined in the world's best known restaurants.
Henry’s Place pays homage to the concept of Brigade de Cuisine as originally conceived by the renowned Chef de Cuisine, Auguste Escoffier. At Henry’s Place, every brigade station is represented in its food preparation. Thus, “American Brigade”.
The menus offered to diners at Henry’s Place spring from the efforts of accomplished chefs from all over Europe, many of whom migrated to America in the early and mid-20th century. These chefs have had enormous impact on American interpretations of the very finest examples of haute cuisine from across Europe.
We think Henry Watterson would enjoy our restaurant, and we hope you do too.

"We were 1st seated in the bar - it was crowded & loud- there were 2 tables in the dining room - one was a table for 2 set for 3 & 1 was a 4 top. I asked to be seated at the 4 top but "TOLD" it was reserved -hmmm-we had a reservation but I guess not gd enough for the better table. As the 3 of us sat at a table for 2, the 4 top remained empty the remainder of the evening...until the same hostess removed the glasses and silver from the table to prepare for closing. It was quite insulting.
The food is good but the attitude from the front door exhausting - it had been a while since we last ate at Henry's Place for that very reason & it may be even longer, if ever again. If you dine here, you better hope that the hostess thinks your "someone""

"We took some friends for an evening out. The complimentary brad with blue cheese dip was fabulous. They make some very tasty and interesting cocktails. I like how the menu is broken down. It has a good variety of food selections and the prices seem fair for he quality. The vegetable plate was fabulous, and my husband really liked his sole. The white chocolate banana pie was a decadent treat. My only suggestions are that I personally would like a couple more non - salad appetizer selections and maybe another soup or two. The soup was great, but they only had one choice. Personally, i could make a meal out of the bread, blue cheese dip, and a nice wine!"

"While the food here is excellent tasting the presentation is even better. Such beautiful plates from the salad to the dessert! My only complaint might be that seating on the long central banquette is tight and that makes it hard to have a conversation with the person across the table. I will be requesting a separate table next time."

"I have been wanting to try Henry's for some time and it was certainly worth the wait. Understated elegant decor, creative menu, and service that was attentive without being stuffy or intrusive made for a wonderful dining experience. I was initially disappointed that we were seated right next to the kitchen but it really wasn't a problem. The booth was enclosed well enough that the kitchen noise was just not a factor. The four of us had four different entrees, ....chicken schnitzel, cioppino, pork chop and short rib..... and all were delicious. Also, the kitchen was most accommodating with a couple of special requests."

"Overall the experience was wonderful. The service was great (Jason and a very nice young lady), especially due to the fact we had 14 people in our party. The birthday girl loved her food as well as everyone else in the party. One of the girls ordered the sole and when it came out she realized that it had dairy. Immediately they took it back and made her a new dish. The chef took the time to come out and ask how the food was, which was extremely nice. I felt like he was appreciative that we chose to celebrate at his restaurant. Although it is a little pricey for our younger crowd, we will certainly return for special occasions.
P.S: The sauce you dip the bread in is pure crack!!!!!!!!"

Everyone we dealt with wished us happy anniversary, and manager came over to offer free dessert (which we had - it was delicious!) "The food was wonderful. And so were the drinks. We celebrated our 30th Anniversary and what a special night. We had a reservation and our name was on the table on a little card. We were seated immediately. The hostess was so pleasant and the servers did a nice job too. It's a little loud is the only criticism."

"I have been a diner at Henry's Place since it opened. It is time for the menu to undergo some tweaking. It has not changed nor been added to since the restaurant opened. The menu is limited to begin with. Even a daily lunch special would liven things up a bit. I have noticed that each time I go there for lunch the crowd diminishes. Thursday the room was about 1/3 of capacity at high noon. The dress code for dinner seems appropriate but for lunch maybe a little relaxing of the rules is in order. Overall I like Henry's Place. The food is always tasty and fresh but it is time for the owner to step back and look at what needs to be improved. Don't take anything for granted."

"This restaurant was the whole package! The food was over the top in pleasing the eye and palate. Everything was so very delicious and fairly priced. The staff were so friendly and engaged, even Chef, who spontaneously made interactive rounds throughout. This award winning Chef and co owners have it going on! "We dined at Henry's for a special Mother's Day seating (they are normally closed on Sunday). I had Steak and Eggs from the menu while appetizers, raw bar and desserts were served from a buffet. The food was outstanding (my steak was one of the best I have ever eaten) and I can't say enough about the service. Our family left RAVING about our first visit to Henry's...excited about returning for dinner or lunch on future occasions."

"Our first visit to Henry's for a mother's day brunch turned into a memorable eating experience courtesy of the incredible fare. Don't come here looking for bacon & eggs. The 8-10 item entre list puts every other brunch menu to shame, and the appetizer buffet was overwhelming. No disappointments at the dessert table either. The finishing touch was the chef coming by our table to thank us. A good day for mom and her brood."

"Our dinner was okay. The atmosphere was great and felt like several high-end restaurants we have been to in other cities. The service was on the casual side and not what we expected after reading about the Brigade de Cuisine and the recommended attire. The food was hit and miss. While I had many gluten-free options, my soup course was served with bread and had to be sent back. The waiter tried to remove the bread from the plate as if that would make it gluten-free.
I had the Tuna Carpaccio which was bland (the wasabi in the buerre blanc was barely there) and the bitter greens overpowered the delicate tuna. The soup was amazing. My entree was the Doc's Vegetables. The butternut squash in caramel was the highlight and the rest was okay."

"We had good friends visiting from out of state and when they suggested a nice night out for dinner we took them to Henry's Place, our new favorite restaurant. "I do not like to be seated in the format you have when I am dining with 1 person. It is like I am dining with the people on both sides of me. In the future, if I cannot be assured of a free standing table, I will not be dining at Henry's Place. The common bench with many tables side by side is a bad idea for me. Then to top it off when the hostess seats diners they fill the same area instead of staggering the diners which would help some. I feel certain this comment has been made before."

"Celebrated a friend's birthday over lunch - our first visit there. We both had lemon sole risotto which was recommended by our server - fabulous! "We brought out of town guests, who found everything charming, whether it was the ambience, the decor, the food or the service. Of the four entrees, three of us liked them a lot (2 had the duck pasta, one had the short ribs). However, the 4th entree, a lamb dish, was only fair. Whether this was a one time failure or a dish to be avoided, I do not know. Also, the salads were a bit too salty. Overall, however, it was a pleasant evening."

"The restaurant is tastefully decorated and the atmoshere allowed for a relaxed and enjoyable dining experience. Excellent menu and thefood was delicious. The staff is friendly and the service excellent. Loved the lemon sole and shrimp risotti.The braised short ribs weredelicious and I was pleasantly surprised by the generous portion, tenderness, and wonderful taste. Great place for a special occassion or just a peaceful dinner."

"Made a reservation for my husband, son and i to celebrate our anniversary as well as my husbands birthday. While the food was as good as always, we were seated at a table just inside the front door that seemed like it was stuck there so they could accommodate a larger crowd. The placement of our table was crowded with a narrow pathway that people had to squeeze past to get in and out of that side of the restaurant. We complained but there was nothing else available. Although, shortly after we were seated we saw several couples come in and get seated.
Did enjoy the food and wine but sticking us at a table that was not meant to be made it uncomfortable and brought the evening down a notch."

"Located in an Indian Hills Strip Mall the experience upon entering is a feast for the eyes and of course the taste buds. Boosting the city's only restaurant dress code, the dining room plays host to a well dressed crowd which is very refreshing, those wearing jeans are seated in the bar. The food and service are great , the wine list is notable bearing many more French choices of both the red and white variety and this is so welcomed and so wonderful, having selections that would truly make MS Scott Harper proud. Go to Henry's Place for the food and the dining experience but do not forget to sample plenty of fine French wine along the way."
