88 at The Elms boasts a rustic American dining experience. Our menu is built around quality produce featuring seasonal, locally grown and procurred ingredients, many from the grounds of The Elms.
"We were excited to go to the Elms for their Mother's Day brunch, anticipating their recent renovation would include their brunch menu as well. We were extremely disappointed. The meal was very over-priced for what was available. Specialty menu items excluded quite a few children and young adults from eating. Basics such as eggs and pancakes, or even french toast, were not on the menu. Plates were brought to the table with very little food on them. And for the prices charged, it was very disheartening.
The service also was poor. The dining room was not that crowded when we had our reservation. Our waitress took drink orders and disappeared. We got our own drinks. And she still expected a tip."

"We knew we were going right into the hustle and bustle of a special Mother's Day Brunch but couldn't resist the wonderful menu offered at Eighty Eight @ The Elms. When we got there is was very busy but not overly crowded so you knew they were doing a great job keeping up with the people who came to eat. (We went at noon, right in the middle of the 10-2 menu and had reservations). Our receptionist took us up to the 2nd story where all became very quiet and few people where there in a cozy atmosphere. We had a wonderful peaceful setting. It was great to get our food amongst many patrons and then to retreat to our quiet setting. Thanks Eighty Eight!"

"I was very impressed with the service. The staffs recommendations were spot on. The food was also top notch. I had the KC strip with asparagus. My wife had the buffalo chicken wrap with seasoned fries. Both delicious. We would definatley return to eat here the next time we stay at the ELMS!"

"Had dinner at Eighty Eight as part of our stay. Had a romantic table on the second floor. The atmosphere was great, the service and food were outstanding! We plan on making our getaway to the Elms Hotel an annual event!"

"A well crafted meal. We started with the beet salad and the scallops then the rib eye steak and the chicken breast. Not your average chicken breast. The meat melted in my mouth-flavorful and so tender. The ribeye at medium rare was cooked to perfection. Finished with the strawberry rubarb cobbler. Not an overflow of food. I doubt you'll take home a doggie bag, but we left sated and very pleased."

"88 tries to hard and subsequently fails to impress at all. I ordered the salmon. It was dry and flavorless. The veggies that it came with were good but overall, I left hungry. My husband had the hare. He said the meat had good flavor but was tough. We will not return to the 88. If you have a hotel credit, spend it in the spa instead."

"Good news! An excellent restaurant whether in Excelsior Springs or anywhere in the world. Bad news! It's in Excelsior Springs. Too far off the beaten path to visit again soon. But a great dining experience. I had a perfect steak and my wife had delicious fish. The beet salad was a huge surprise with the warm cheese curds. Great dinner ambiance. Well exceeded my expectations for presentation, taste and service."

"Great service, expertly mixed cocktails, and delicious food! We were hoping for a nice dinner to celebrate our anniversary, but also wanted to catch the KU game toward the end of our meal, so the hostess sat us at a cozy table in the bar area so we could enjoy each other's company while keeping an eye on the score. The bartender took great care of us, made excellent recommendations as we ordered and even mixed up a tasty dessert cocktail upon request. We'll definitely be back again!"

"My wife and I drove 50 miles to have dinner with you and stay the evening for our 35th wedding anniversary. Breakfast was also experienced the next morning. SUPERB, EXCELLENT, MEMORABLE, and everything exceeded our dreams. Where did you get that chef? He is so creative and flavors we had never enjoyed more. It was just a tremendously wonderful 24 hours topped by two wonderful meals. Thank you staff for making our 35th a very special memory. Geoff and Sheryl Heathcock"

"Decor and service was excellent. Food was pricey and the waitress suggested the roasted duck. Although I enjoyed the dish there was more fat than I would prefer. But wonderful homed bread and ingredients from local vendors. Very romantic located in The Elms hotel."

"The food overall was good, but my husband ordered the ny strip-it arrived rather cold and he said it was a little tough. He told the waitress, she offered to re-cook, but food was coming out of the kitchen so slowly, he was afraid it would take at least 30 mins. She ended up just reheating it. I tried it, it was pretty tough for a ny strip, especially for $33! She did comp my wine, but that was for me, not my husband."

"We loved Eighty-Eight at the Elms. The food was delicious, the service was great, and it was a wonderful atmosphere. I am vegan, and the chef cooked up something especially for me that wasn't on the menu. It was a great experience all around!"

"Valentine Day 5 course menu. Excellent choices, new tastes from around the world. Will return for another meal to sample more of the regular menu. One of the best experiences I had in the KC metroplex. Thank you ELMS!"

"What a beautiful experience. Walking up to the Elms a magical feeling of anticipation begins to fill you. The big Elms Sign illuminates the trees that frame the old historic rock building. As we entered, we were greeted warmly at every turn. The food was a fresh & unique dining experience. While they had all the staples of fine dining: steak, fish, etc…also offered was a hearty, rustic menu of elk, antelope, braised pork, and signature cocktails. The eclectic pairing of flavors were unique to anything I have found in KC. Set to an ambiance that is truly classic and elegant you leave with a warmth that is sure to bring you back."

"The hot tub was a party scene with beer, liquor, smoke of both types. But other than that it was a good stay, one other thing, the bed was pretty comfortable considering the masive amount of bumps in it rm.201"

"We were there for four days on a spa weekend. We had a hard time finding anything on the menu that sounded appetizing. We ordered sandwiches and could eat half, not good. We had reservations for Saturday night and the service was exceptional but salmon was not done. We were ther for a spa weekend to relax and had intended to order room service the whole time but ended up going out for our Sunday meals. I have traveled the U.S. and around the world and eaten at some very ice restaurants and I am not a picky eater. The ingredient explanations on the menu do not even sound good. It looks like the chef wants to make a name for hisself and it's not working. Sometimes you need to have just some simple meat and seafood selection on the menu."

"Superb wait-staff, professional, yet courteous and friendly. Food was excellent! Braised ribs, ribeye, vegetables, desserts... all were done to perfection. The dining area was clean, quiet (for the number of people dining, and reminiscent of the hotels heydays. We are already trying to think up excuses to go back and enjoy the experience again."

"The service was very good. I had a surprisingly good butter nut squash soup with pomegranate and a delicious steak. My wife gads chicken dish. She felt the chicken was tasty but very chewy. Everything was plated beautifully. Noise level was good, atmosphere lovely. Overall, an enjoyable experience. It was not our first time and won't be our last."

"We had a wonderful experience. They use local food as much as possible and it was delicious. The items we selected were matched perfectly with their sides, sauces and the size. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed this place."

"Eighty Eight @ The Elms was a good restaurant. The lunch menu was very good and the brunch was well put together. If you are staying a The Elms its worth eating in house. I don't know if I'd drive the 45 mins from Kansas City just for the restaurant though."

"A reasonably good dining experience with attentive staff and food well-presented. On the downside there are TVs in the room. When dining out why would anyone want to watch TV? Are they not there to enjoy the company and conversation of their companions?"
