"Four of us had 8pm tickets to the CPO two blocks away and thought for sure we'd have plenty of time by making our dinner reservations for 6pm. Unfortunately, dinner came quite slowly and we made it out of the restaurant with 10 minutes to spare and two of our party were elderly and could not walk fast.
We all enjoyed our food very much - it was excellent and our server was friendly if a bit slow at putting our order in."

"The meals at the Saltlik are full of flavor. I've had the Halibut, the Hunter Chicken the Salmon and the burger and all have been outstanding. For suppers it's a great place to dine and be able to visit with friends in a calm, classy setting."

"I was again impressed by the quality of the food although this location lacked what I fell in love with about the Banff location. As I recall there was more selection and more interesting side dishes in Banff as well as an executive chef who created a new tester side dish. I felt kind of like management was a little behind in Calgary compared to Banff. Next trip to saltlik will be to the Banff location. It's worth the drive!"

"The Saltlik in downtown Calgary was an overall good experience. The steaks were very good, well cooked and came out on time. My salad however was missing avocado, they ran out of the cheese that was supposed to come with it, I had asked for dressing on the side and it had come dressed - overall was not very pleased with this salad. Also the chicken had its skin falling off and was very oily and unappealing. Basically, if you go to Saltlik - get steak! That is clearly what they are good at."

"Friday night, restaurant was maybe 20% full, should have been first warning. Was seated at our table, our waitress was actually sitting at another table talking, she looked over at us, but kept her conversation going. The hostess came back to get our drink orders, 5-7 minutes later she finally came over. The fish dishes were OK, but the steaks were terrible. Had the 15oz Ribeye and it was tough as nails, the table was shaking as I was tring to cut it. Very bland and overcooked. Couldnt tell the waitress as she was back over at the other table chit-chatting again, pretty much blew us off. If you want a good steak and great atmoshpere go to the Keg at the Westin downtown, or Ruths Chris just a block away."

"Great wine selection. Great appetizers, both selection and the appetizers themselves. Service left something to be desired. Clearly they were busy but that is no excuse. And for a steakhouse not to be able to properly cook a simple ribeye is not acceptable. Would give it another chance though."

When it came it wasn't hot.
We had to ask where our appetizer was.
When it came it,first bite, was very salty (calamari) and the waitress said she'd come back after we had a chance to test it a little further. She never did. We scraped all the batter off in order to eat it.
One of our orders was ribs. Found out they were out of ribs. It was 6:15 pm on a Sunday! How many orders have you gone through already? Not many I expect.
We were almost finished our meals when someone came and asked if we wanted pepper.
Too late.
The meal was enjoyable but the service seemed to be lacking and there weren't very many people in the restaurant at that time."

"Booked at Saltlik because it was one of the places I could get in for a larger group when making a reso. I originally had a reso for 8 and called the night before to change it to 6 people. The table was still set up for 8 when we got there. The food was good, not knock your socks off but enjoyable, good atmosphere and not to noisy to visit. The only part that wasn't good was our server. He did not seem to want to be there - at all. He didn't crack one smile the entire time, his timing was off and apparently he did come to check on our meal but he was so quiet that I didn't even hear him ask how everything was as I had my head down to eat."

"This was my return visit to Saltlik, and they certainly deserve another when I am back in town again. They make you feel special from the minute you walk in the door to the minute you leave, and the food is fantastic, starting with the best starters/appetizers I have ever had. Our serving team (headed by Jackie) was on top of our needs, and all with a smile. Do yourself a favor and check this place out!"

"We have been here several times and usually rate it as one of our favourites. This time, however, we were not as impressed but we are hoping it was just an "off" night! Our group all ordered steak but two of us were disappointed in how it was cooked (one actually sending it back twice until it was cooked to preference). Also, some of us ordered seasonal vegetables as a side and we found they were undercooked and bland. On a positive note, the mushrooms were delicious and dessert was fantastic. The server, I am guessing, was fairly new as he seemed hesitant and nervous (and we are a fun group!) but he worked hard to please and was kind enough to ensure that one steak dinner was complementary after we returned it for the second time."

"Very, very average food. Nice atmosphere, ambience and pleasant service however the food was that of a greasy spoon establishment. Presentation lacked even the most minimal of the "wow" expected from any dining location on 8th ave downtown and anything to tantilize my tastebuds certainly followed suit. However, i wasn't very impressed with the items on the Menu. Mediocre at best. This place seems dedicated to serving oil and gas employees on expense accounts. I wasn't impressed. However, the waitress was receptive to the feedback I offered at the end of the night. Hopefully they make some changes to ensure that customers are served in a timely manner."

"We told our server at Saltlik that we had a meeting right after lunch, so we had to leave within an hour or so. There was eight of us and each of us ordered a different menu item. The restaurant was almost full that day. To our surprise, the food arrived promptly and everyone was happy with his or her choice. We were out of there within an hour. The server was friendly and efficient. In addition, they didn't add the automatic gratuity for a large party. I had to read the bill twice to make sure that I was reading it correctly. What can I say? Wow! It is definitely a place worth recommending."

"Two of us took a client for lunch. Both mine and the client's steaks were ordered medium rare, we both received very rare, bordering on "blue" steaks. As our third party had ordered pasta, it didn't make sense to have him not eat or eat without us if we returned the steaks, therefore, we ate what we could of them. The client pointed the error out when his plate was taken away. They removed the one steak off the bill."

"Had lunch with a friend. Burger was surprisingly tasteless for a "high end " burger. Wine by the glass was ok but very ordinary if rather expensive.
Service was slow and we were rescued by the floor manager who personally served us...good for him. Very noisy since every noise is amplified by the nature of the space and all the hard surfaces. Will not be back anytime soon. The sister restuarants, Earls and Joey tomatoes are much better choices."

"Good for a business dinner. The evening crowd seemed a bit loud so it was a bit difficult to hear sometimes. The waiter was very patient in taking our orders and didn't seem to mind making multiple trips to our table to see if we were ready yet. The food was delicious and the out-of town business associates really enjoyed it too."

"I like this restaurant very much and the service was tremedous but the food lacked or at least mine did. I had the special filet medium rare. it was a grisley piece of meat and the side of fries were cold. Like I said this has never happened before but the price was high for very average quality food."

"The food was good. I find the appetizers a touch small for their price tag, but they were actually the highlight of the meal. The ribs were just great, although advertised as "dry ribs" they were anything but.Calamari was fantastic!
The lunch special tenderloin was well received. I had the sirloin and it was not pleasing. I couldn't get one bite without a tendon running through the meat. Quite a poor cut.
Service was SLOW and not attentive. Drinks were missed, refills came late or not at all and we struggled to even get Ketchup 10 minutes after mains had been served. The place was half full on a Friday at lunch so I don't see it being busy as the issue.
There are too many great places now along eighth, gotta step up the service."

"We found the experience at Saltlik average: not exceptional but not disappointing. Went on a Saturday night with my wife.
Wasn't blown-away by the appetizer options, most were fried and "pub-style", not characteristic of a mid- to high-end steak house. We opted for soup and salads which were great! Steaks were average, many served with sauces which we found over-powering. Expectations of steak from a steakhouse is that natural flavour of the meat and seasonings are accentuated not masked with sauces. A little disappointed. The wine selection was nice, enjoyed a bottle of Tolini - Al Passo, a hard find in a restaurant these days. Dessert was the best part of the meal.
Espresso machine was broken, which seemed odd for a Saturday night."

"A great place for lunch. Service and food both very good. I was there twice recently. The spaghetti and Kobe meatballs was delicious and enough of it to take some home. "The food was excellent and so was the service. I asked for a wine recommendation and it was dead on for my tastes. Two people in our party split a meal and ordered a side salad to be split as well. I was very impressed that they did the split in the kitchen (vs giving us the one meal and an extra plate) without giving us any grief like so many other restaurants."
