"I really enjoyed Sunday brunch - the food was excellent, especially the pork belly and salted caramel panna cotta, and the service was friendly. I loved dining at the counter - watching the chefs cook and talking to them about the food was a special and fun experience. It was a trendy but not pretentious atmosphere. Added bonus is a parking lot in front. The only thing I would not reorder was the Bloody Mary - it tasted like maybe they added clamato juice which some people really like in their Bloody Marys, it's just not a taste I enjoy. I would return to try the dinner menu and recommend this place to others."

"Went to Bread & Wine for brunch on Mother's Day. We have been here in the past but this was our first time going for brunch. The food was delicious as usual and the service was friendly and efficient. My wife and I will definitely be back for brunch again to try all the other options on the menu that sounded good."

"We were greeted warmly, and sat immediately (we had a res). Our waiter was very hip and friendly and very attentive, but not overly so. We tried a small charcuterie plate with chicharróns, a goat's milk cheese, and the chicken liver paté. We expected a more "modern", heartier version of the chicharrón... we got a light as air, very crispy wisp of a thing that exploded in a shower of tiny crumbs when we tried to break it to share it. It was tasty, but most of it went on the table. But the paté rocked, and the cheese was yum. Then we had the octopus, which was amazing. Then I had the butter poached walleye, and I think it was one of the top 3 meals I have ever eaten. My husband had the chorizo burger...delicious!!! Great wine list too."

"We've dined here on a variety of occassions and each time has lived up to the expectation of a good meal with great service. You can't go wrong with any of their cheeses and the house made chicken pate is wonderful. A must get is the Panna Cotta for dessert - wish they had this in a to-go container! It is wonderful to have a restaurant like this in the neighborhood. Make sure to sign up for their emails as they offer special events where they create a custom meal that is paired with a craft beer/liquor, it's a fun experience."

"This is our second time dining there...the first time was with a group of 6, this time was just me and my husband. We enjoyed our meal the first time, but the restaurant had just opened. I think they've really come into their own now. This time, we were seated at the chef's counter, so we got to watch everything being prepared. What a great show! The food was fantastic...from top to bottom - we split 5 charcuterie meats & cheeses, 2 small plates, 2 large plates, 1 dessert. Awesome. All of it was great, but the octopus small plate was amazing."

"Four of us had excellent meals at Lokal. The appitizers, grilled chicken salad and pirogues, were very good. The chicken pieces were substanstial and seasoned very nicely and the water crress gave a lovely kick.. The pirogues had a tasty sauce and the dough was good. Three of us ordered the trout and one a steak. The trout was tasty and the accompanying asperegus was perfectly al-dente. The steak was large, perfectly cooked and seasoned very well. The woman that was our waitress was also an owner of Lokal and her knowledge of everything on the menu was very helpful. All of the waitstaff were friendly."

"If you like a unique cocktail, order the Pantone -it has bourbon, beets and some aromatic spirits, is well-balanced and savory and a gorgeous beet red color. My friend had the walleye, which she enjoyed and we started with the charcuterie plate (a MUST) and I had the pasta with lamb and fine herbs, also very good. I'm not a big dessert person, but the salted caramel popcorn custard is DELICIOUS-sweet and salty and crunchy and creamy. Enough for 2 to share. Service is outstanding and friendly."

"Bread and Wine was a terrific find. In a remodeled laundry mat (that looks nothing like a remodeled laundry mat), the place has a nice mix of tables, a bar and a counter to eat at overlooking the kitchen. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the food was outstanding. Interesting and adventurous menu. The set-up encourages folks at neighboring tables to chat. We will be back for the beer pairing menu in a couple of weeks!"

"Sat at the chef's bar and had an amazing dinner. From the charcuterie (a bit expensive, but good portions), to small plates (suncoke salad and a ham and 6 sec egg salad) to the steak and Lamb TBone special it was a perfect night. Capped with a perfect ending of Nutella Mud Pie and Salted Caramel PannaCotta, I'm not sure it could have been any more perfect. We really enjoyed our bottle of Sancere (although it was a tad pricey) and the little extras the chefs gave us were a nice treat. I would suggest the chef's bar for a party of 3 or fewer. It a really neat touch."

"We ordered the fish and the burger. Flavors are very good, however the burger was dryer than expected, lean. DO NOT SKIP DESSERT. We had the panna cotta for dessert. Freshly made caramel pop corn would make this treat a 10 star delight! Server was polite and attentive without being annoying. Good music at volume where you could hear your tables conversation but not others. Fantastic profile pic of Steve Buscemi in "Reservoir Dogs." Classic!"

"We had a wonderful dinner at Bread & Wine. We had the option to sit at the chef's counter which was wonderful if you're interested in seeing the amazing coordination that takes place in a kitchen of this caliber. It is a high energy though, so if you're more interested in a quiet, relaxed dinner, a regular table might suit you better.
The two of us started with a cheese/charcuterie plate. We then moved on to a special appetizer - I think it was some shoulder of something.... all I can remember is that it was delicious. We also had the fries, which were yummy. Finally, we split the chicken breast entree served with pierogis. A+
The service was very attentive but had some inconsistencies when the place filed up. Still very good, though"

"We took out neighbors to dinner as a thank you for dog-sitting. We had been several times and the food has always been great. We wanted to show it off to our neighbors.It did not disappoint. We like the creative menu, that changes quite frequently. This night two options on the small plate menu were duck balls and beef tongue. Of course we had to order both. They were great, especially the tongue which was the best thing I've put in my mouth in a long time. The large plate entrees we ordered were also good but hard to compete with the tongue and balls. Service was helpful but not intrusive. Great night complimented with good reasonably priced wine selections."

"I went for a Sunday brunch and enjoyed the experience and the food. The owners have transformed the space in such a great way. I tried the pork belly with cheese grits and an egg. Delicious! My friend who doesn't like grits tried them and enjoyed the taste. the pork belly was both melt in your mouth yummy and had a great crunch. "Our experience at Bread & Wine was wonderful. Their house charcuterie is amazing, as are the cheeses. Our server was very knowledgeable about the food and wine list and we enjoyed a very nice, unusual bottle of wine at a great price. We even bought a bottle to take home. You can tell they use the freshest ingredients as the flavors really shine through. The Chef is really good at combining textures, as was exemplified by the ravioli course. For dessert, we loved the panna cotta! I would go back for that alone. And we will be back."

"Tried five different items from the charcuterie and cheese selections, all were tremendous. Hog shoulder and octopus small plates were out of this world. Don't miss the walleye large plate, beautiful presentation with flavors to match. All in all, one of the better dining experiences to date in Chicago."

"Food sounded better on the menu than in execution. We had the white fish which was a tower of brown foods; browned fish, brown split pea cake, brown onions, and brown "chips" not a success. Overall the presentation of all the plates was poor although the flavors were good. Too serious, distant host staff - maybe the owners? that did not add to what was trying to be a relaxed atmosphere."

"We had a great spot in the back or in the grocery section? The lighting there was dim and wonderful. The rest of the restaurant was well lit and the tables close together. The noise level was high. Had difficulty hearing the server and the music (not that I came for music). My husband loved the meat options I loved the wine flight option. We got the chefs suggestion cheese/meat plate & all small dishes: cuttle fish (special), gnocchi, sunchoke, scallops and finally the "mud pie". I liked the unique food options and I would come back for special occasions."

"Enjoyed most of what we ordered the octopus being a standout. The wheat berry salad with carrrots was very disappointing with almost no carrots visible in the dish. Also not a big fan of the chocolate panna cotta inspired dessert, tho the nut brittle that came with it was good. Service was attentive and very friendly. The noise level was a bit of a challenge for conversation among our group of 6, but not impossible! Well crafted cocktails helped..."

"A bright light in a neighborhod not generally noted for contemporary restaurants. Menu is creative, if not quite gourmet. Some fabric runners across the ceiling dampen the noise. Our server was very attentive all through the meal. All in all, a nice dinng experience.

"My party had an 8:30pm reservation when we got there the hostess told us it would be a 30 minute wait. I asked her what's the point of making a reservation, why didn't they call me and that we had a show to go to. She told me it's hard to predict when people with leave. She bought us a round of drinks and they seated us in 20 minutes.
We had to rush a little bit. The wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The food was delicious. The scallop appetizer had great flavor, but I thought it could of used a bit more of the micro greens, radish and grapefruit. That combo with the scallop was wonderful, but not enough o fit to go around. They really made sure we knew multiple times that they were comping us a round drinks."

"Had a beautiful and delicious brunch and the service was excellent. Two of our party of six were stuck in traffic, so they arrived 40 minutes late. Our waitress was patient and accommodating. Many of us are vegetarians so a couple more items on the menu that we could eat would have been preferable, however, the dishes that were vegetarian were delightful. Our waitress also mentioned that we could call ahead next time and the chef would do his best to accommodate our dietary needs."
