"Service, particularly bar service, was slow. Food was great. Drinks at the bar (with live jazz)is a wonderful experience but the main dining room feels really sparse and plain."

"Four of us had a great time at Chez Billy's. They had my favorite bourbon- Eagle Rare, which is unusual for DC, and my husband's daube, which I had last time, was still fabulous. I had the mussels, which I wouldn't order again, not enough garlic and the sauce was blah, but our friends enjoyed their fish and the rissoto with farro. We shared a dessert and started with a rabbit pate- all excellent! Bravo, Chez Billy!"

"It's nice that Petworth is getting some real restaurants, but this one needs some work. The food was okay. The mushroom risotto was quite salty, but otherwise a good idea. The salads my table had were quite good and the meat dishes (beef cheek, roasted chicken and steak) were solid, but nothing special. We split the profiteroles for dessert and they were bland. The biggest turn off was the service. The hostess didn't know how to use the reservation system (and snapped at us) and the waiter was not educated about the menu. 3 entrees arrived and we waited 10 minutes for the 4th. We would have gotten started, but we couldn't because we had no forks :("

"We sent back our first spoiled bottle but the waiter was apologetic and readily brought another. Superb food and prices to match dont quite go w picnic tables and benches in my mind. Loved the expansive open kitchen. Breathtaking."

"I love CB more each time we go. The staff is excellent - they really pay attention to what you say and clearly love the food. The beet salad was great, and my husband's chicken fantastic. My mussels were not all as juicy and plump as they've been on previous visits, but really the kitchen gets my thanks for having set my expectations so high, and our server gets 5 stars for overhearing my feedback and making a note of it. Rarely happens in DC!"

"I went to Chez Billy for a business dinner on Tuesday and the next morning made a reservation to take my wife and friends there Saturday. Its not fancy. Its not 5 star Citronelle or the Inn at Little Washington. Its not trying to be those. Its trying to be a warm, friendly, neighborhood place with GREAT food. Mission accomplished. From Jennifer the bartender to Sonia our warm and thoughful waitress, it was a perfect experience. The food was great. Beef cheeks that were so tender they melted on your fork. Salmon with polenta and ramps were delicious as was the Blood sausauge. And holy cow, it was half price wine night so we got a great bottle of wine for $25. How can you beat that! And it was a very affordable meal!"

"We were pleased to find a great restaurant in our neighborhood. The first impressions when we walked in were not very good - the hostess was curt and when we told her that we had reservations, she blurted out "it'll be 5 minutes" - no "hello, how are you?" or "it'll be just a few minutes while we set the table so would you mind waiting?" with a smile. Throughout the entire dinner, the hostess with her unpleasant attitude and disgruntled look about her face would be an unpleasant sight for us. The other negative thing about the experience was that the entrees took much too long to come out after the appetizer plates were taken away. We understand that it was a busy night but I think they could have timed things better. Now onto the good thi"

"We had a very satisfying dinner at Chez Billy. It was our first visit so we didn't know what to expect. My entree (duck) was particularly good. And I appreciated the lively all-American atmosphere --- no fake pretentious Frenchness here."

"Where do I begin? I requested a table near the window for a large group and were seated in a cozy private area on the 2nd floor. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and waited on by a very patient & good humored server. My friends and I received outstanding service, mouth watering food and a superb wine. The prices are extremely reasonable and it's minutes from the Petworth metro."

"Always great food, surprisingly great for the area. Great French options, high quality and usually great service. The only negative that I consider pretty major is the extremely loud, pounding hip hop music they start playing at about 9 or 10pm. This music destroys the ambiance of the restaurant, is way too loud, and makes you feel like you are eating in a hip hop club instead of the quaint French neighborhood restaurant it really is before the music starts. I suspect the restaurant turns into a nightclub after the kitchen closes. Maybe they need to push this back an hour or two."

"I would have checked 'fit for foodies' if the meal the 2nd time was as good as the 1st time I dined there. The pommes anna that accompany the poulet roti were so scrumptious the 1st time but just an OK potato side the 2nd time. The salade lyonnaise has great flavor but needs more frisee and the lardons are too huge and fatty (even for lardons). The daube de boeuf had a considerable amount of anise flavor which was not mentioned in the menu description. However, the place is adorable with good service and I will go back in the hopes that the 2nd meal was a fluke and the 1st is the norm."

"My husband and myself had a lovely dinner with 2 friends who are major foodies. We had a wonderful waitress, Rachel, who took very good care of us. All of our dishes were delicious. The bread basket was particularly good, filled with warm, just out of the oven bread. Pate, Beet Salad for first course. Beef Daube was very tender, roasted chicken was very nice. Atmosphere was classic, French, a bit on the dark side, but very romantic. Noise Level was also low and you could actually have a conversation without shouting, even when the restaurant filled up. We will definitely be going back again."

"We had a reservation for 8:15. we were not seated until 9:00. The service was terrible. Two of our six meals came out ten minutes following the other four. It was so dark inside of the restaurant, nobody could see what they were eating. My wife ordered the beef cheeks and with every bite she got a nice taste of fat. As previously mentioned none of us could see our food. Because of this she was unable to literally, "trim the fat."The steak frites was nothing special, bland and boring. i would go to Bistro du Coin any day over coming here. The service was awful. We literally waited for fifteen minutes to get our check and then another ten to give our waitress our credit card to pay the bill. She was nowhere to be found."

"A little bit of a struggle to get decent vegetarian food. I ordered the risotto, which is the only option on the menu, even though I'd had it before. The last time, it was a decent size serving but this time is was almost microscopic, with a weird brown gravy. And they were charging $18 for it! I sent it back and the chef whipped up a great appetizer-size serving of roasted veggies for me. They also comped me a glass of wine, which was really nice. Needless to say, I left hungry, but it was a noble effort on their part to keep me happy. My dining companion enjoyed her mussels, but for some reason the fries that were supposed to accompany them didn't appear until very late in the meal."

"We have been to Chez Billy twice and the food is delicious. I do wish their menu was a little larger (a french dip sandwich would be great) but everything we have had has been great. Our only complaint is that the service is consistently very slow - and my husband's meal came out a full five minutes before mine did. Not a huge deal, but he ordered the mussels and they were not so warm when he finally got to eat them. If they could just speed up their service, this place would be phenomenal."

"I'd been to Chez Billy for cocktails before and had a wonderful time. But my first sit down dining experience there was a disappointment. Underseasoned and poorly concepted food that left my whole table a little hungry. The drinks and service were good, but the food was just not worth it."

"This is our third time here. On the last two, we brought friends with us. We now opt for sitting in the back area of the bar where there are four tables. We have sat in that area the last two times, both times our server was Sheik, who is exceptional. He helped make our experiences memorable.
The food is consistent and very good. We have ordered the bone marrow and pork rillete each time. So far, everything we have ordered has been very good. We're glad to have them in the neighborhood."

"Service was consistently way too slow, from being seated, to taking orders, to receiving food and our check. Our appetizers had to be reordered since our waitress got the order wrong the first time. As far as I could tell, she spent most of the evening in the kitchen. Hopefully this was a fluke, because otherwise the food and atmosphere was lovely."

"We waited a long time to order wine, a long time to order food, and the bus boy never brought us bread. the food was ok but the fish special was a pretty meager portion. it was really drafty where we sat on the second floor. you have a beautiful space and i would recommend your place to get drinks, but it wasn't a very pleasant dining experience."

"Totally outstanding French food a historic neighborhood restaurant in Petworth. Pricey but worth it, this is a special occasion/date night kind of place, in my opinion, at least on the dining room side. There is also a great bar area with a fire place and surprisingly good happy hour specials."

"We were not in a hurry, but the service speed was awful. Party of 8 and dinner was 3 hours long. Then there was a check debacle which took another 20 minutes to straighten out. I have been to the restaurant before and service was not a problem. Maybe I would only recommend for parties of 4 or less."

"Predictive of a great dinner was the fact that, before we even sat down, one of us was already wetting her lips with a cocktail. It’s not that fun is directly correlated to alcohol consumption–two fascinating cats in our party didn’t drink at all–but that a preference for instant over delayed gratification is directly correlated to fun. Mains included a silken boudin blanc, braised beef cheeks, and a roasted quail with its legs crossed in a very lady-like manner. Someone ordered steak, but it was well-done and is therefore not really worth describing. And maybe not even worth eating."
