"We had a great dinner at Southport and Irving. The flatbread was really good and enough for all of us to have a taste. Most of us ordered the burger, which was cooked well and served with hand cut fries that were quite tasty. The only issue I have is with the service. The server we had seemed on top of things in the beginning, however as more parties came into the restaurant he seemed to lose track of our table. Our drinks barely had ice in them, which melted pretty quickly. We were not given a specials menu or told what they were. Other than that I would recommend going there for the food."

"I couldn't believe how everything could possibly go wrong in one outing. Was hoping to enjoy a father's day brunch. 30 minutes after being seated, I had to ask the hostess if she could please send someone over to take our drink order. Lowering our expectations, we ordered our food at that time as well. An hour later, no food...and finally a waiter for another round of drinks. 30 minutes later, still no food. We asked for it to go since we had little ones with us & usually a short window for dining. I gave my card to speed things up & was charged for the party of 6 that was seated net to us. Another 30 minutes later, our items were ready to go & I had the correct bill. Got home, opened our food & the order was completely wrong. Disaster."

"The food was really delicious. We started with the flatbread bruschetta. All had fish - salmon or talpia. Very loud, but it was the one table with the one loud friend."

"Our waiter was awesome--attentive and fun. We also took advantage of the bottomless brunch drinks deal, and the staff was extremely generous with their refills. I would definitely like to come back again sometime soon."

"They stuck us in the bar room in back which was a weird uncomfortable space. The flatiron steak was a few small pieces with tons of tomatoes. Should have been called tomato salad with steak. The grilled chicken flatbread was execellent however. When we asked to split the credit cards between two cards he split them 75 percent on one and 25 on the other. Very odd. Cannot recommend due to the price. The atmosphere and food just didn't support it."

"Appetizers and main dishes were excellent. Creative, fresh, tasty. Drinks were well made. Desserts were not good - uninteresting flavors, did not seem fresh in one case, needs work overall. Go for drinks and dinner; go elsewhere for dessert (unless improvements occur). Note: it is VERY loud."

"This place is right down the block from me and it is my favorite brunch place in Chicago so far! Great prices for bottomless mimosas and bloody marys and all their food is great!"

"With our reservation we were seated right away on a busy Sunday morning for brunch. We had a great table and were catching up with friends before we realized that it had been 30minutes before our server acknowledged us and said he'd be right back. 10 minutes later I had to ask the hostess to get us a server. When our server finally appeared he was brusque and offered no apology. However after bringing the food he did apologize and said the poor service was due to being unexpectedly understaffed that day. We have been here before and the food has been good. If we go again I will make sure we have plenty of time just in case."

"Came here for Mother's Day brunch. Food was good, but not great, and was pricey. I recall most brunch entrees being over $10. Also, our server was very...serious I suppose is the best word. Not rude or anything, just, a tad off putting.
I'd consider going here again to maybe try out dinner. Cool interior, good food, and the crowd was good too."

"Very poor service. Had to ask to have our order taken. Food was so so. fruit plate mostly bland under ripe melon. Horrible 80's music. I know they were short staffed that day, but should I be hearing about that from the waiter and bar tender? Coffee was bad. Hated the sports themed artwork. One waiter's response to a screaming child, "Make it stop". This was the highlight of the meal. Never again would I set foot in that place. My daughter said, "This could be a really nice place"."

"We tried the restaurant as it was highlighted on Open Table. We were pleasantly surprised with a nice environment and great food. Server was friendly but a bit slow in providing service. Fortunately we had time to spare. Overall it was a good experience and we will return."

"The menu could have a few more choices...kind of limited....but what we ate we enjoyed. The bloody marys are tasty but I think it is basic bartending to have a celery salt rim with celery for a Classic Drink. The bartender kept smashing the empty champagne bottles every time he mad e a pitcher of bottomless Mimosas...the sound was like nails on a chalk board....they should be aware of the noise level."

"Really noisy on a Saturday at lunchtime. Brunch food was fine but the service was spotty. Treasure chest for kids a nice idea but the things in it were so flimsy they fell apart almost immediately. Just paper and crayons would have made for a happier table."

"Both the service and food were great. We were there for brunch and both the mimosas and bloody mary were fantastic. There were a couple of ambiance issues. Between the music, which I enjoyed, and the table almost directly on top of one another, it was a little loud and sometimes hard to hear a normal level conversation. We were there for a romantic birthday brunch so we found it hard to actually be romantic or hold a conversation that we would be comfortable with others hearing. The only other issue was with the hostess. She for some reason could not seem to get a grasp on what her job was. Multiple times she would yell at guests from across the room rather than greeting them and I had to give her my name for a reservation 5 times."

"My friends from out of town were going to the Cubs game, so we picked this spot for brunch because it's close enough to walk to the stadium without being in the heart of the Wrigleyville crowd. It turned out to be a very good decision! The menu was good, and the prices were reasonable. The duck hash was very tasty, and they didn't skimp on the duck, either. Also, bottomless bloody maries for $10 were a good deal, too. There was a good crowd, but we didn't have to wait at all. My only (minor) complaint was that the service could have been better (but it wasn't terrible).
I've been there a couple of times for drinks, too, and the bartenders are always very good. I'll definitely go back."

"We needed a place to accommodate a fairly large group (8 people plus a baby) for a surprise bridal shower and S&I was very helpful. The service could use some improvement - but I think the server was fairly new and not used to the brunch crowd yet. Other than that, the food and drink selection was fantastic, plus the prices were reasonable."

"We were looking for a brunch spot on Easter Sunday and found Southport and Irving and what a great find it was! It's owned by the same people that own Broadway Cellars in Edgewater (which is a favorite place of ours) so we had high expectations and they delivered. Everything from the food, to the service to the brunch menu options were great. Highly recommend you considering them if you are looking for a great brunch spot."

"Loved S&I - decided to meet some friends out for dinner and basically just looked for a place between us. The food was amazing. Amazing, y'all. My wife got a chicken dish and I had braised short ribs. Plus we ordered the bacon brussel sprouts and some fries. All of it was so good. They were so friendly and welcoming to the four adults and our one year old daughter as well. It's not a "kid place" (so no need to worry for those of you without kids looking to avoid them) but you can definitely feel welcome with kids.
Go here. You won't be disappointed."

"The food was very good, substantially portioned and reasonably priced. My dining companion and I split two large apps and were quite satisfied. The quality of the wine varied dramatically from undrinkable to decent. See notes below re service problems."

"I've been to Southport and Irving before and was disappointed in the service on this trip. Our waitress seemed uneducated about the menu and screwed up our order. To be fair, she also seemed to be overwhelmed as I don't think they had enough people working to cover the crowd."

"Southport and Irving was a great dinner place before a Music Box show. Very close to the Music Box but in the opposite direction from the Wrigleyville bar scene. The braised short rib with mushroom risotto was really good, as were the seared scallops. Get the flourless chocolate cake for desert too. One thing - there's actually two doors to this place, one of which takes you into the private dining area? or the SIP lounge? Couldn't tell, but it was a bit confusing... After that though - great experience."

"Went to Southport and Irving on a Monday night for a quick dinner. The restaurant was mostly empty so there was no issue getting a table. Restaurant was inviting, great music on, and service was great... And then there was the food. I was excited to see lobster Mac and cheese but disappointed with what came out. The cheese sauce was grainy and mealy and tasted somewhat like it came out of a package. The orzo and braised short ribs for an entree was equally disappointing. The mushroom risotto had a good flavor but was under cooked and the short ribs slightly over cooked and dry, the sauce was good, however. There have been some great reviews of this place so maybe the chef was having an off day (or maybe a day off) when we were there."

"Had a great time at the restaurant. Promptly seated, orders were taken quickly, and I never had an empty cup of coffee. The waitress was a doll (I didn't get her name...) and recommended the crab cake benedict. Fantastic recommendation! Will definitely be back sooner rather than later, this time with more people."

"The service was poor. Even with reservations, we sat at a table for 20 minutes before a waitress greeted us and took our order for drinks. It took another 25 minutes to get a glass of wine and a diet coke. We were at the restaurant for approximately 2 hours before we were served the main entree and received our bill. The food was marginal."
