"We had a great time. The restaurant's theme -- innovative "comfort food" -- is beautifully executed. "Hanky Panky" appetizers alone are worth the trip. Shrimp & grits & salmon entrees were excellent. Only issue was service -- our server was friendly but a bit scattered -- took a long time to get any attention. And our other appetizer didn't make it to the table before our entrees, so we canceled it. The cornbread arrived when we were almost finished with our dinners; on the bright side, it was so good that it made a good substitute for desert. The best part was some personal attention from Chef Chris, who is nice as can be. He spent quite a bit of time out on the floor -- he is destined to be a superstar on the Cleveland dining sce"

"We went to dinner before seeing a show at playhouse square. We were able to park in the middle so we only had to park once. We had wonderful service from a server who knew the food, told us what she had tasted and made recommendations. Some of us got a full meal others ordered a couple of sides for dinner. The drinks were expensive but larger than normal. We loved the tater tots (we wished we ordered more for an appetizer) and the cornbread and butter given to you with the drinks. I had a hanger steak with pototoes and asparagus, it tasted fantastic but could have been hotter. We saved room for desserts to share and it was worth it! Both the rocky road sunday and apple crisp with ice cream were very good."

"The cornbread with maple bourbon butter was amazing! The two of us both had Hodge's burgers. I prefer burgers medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. Amazing menu with five star dishes. The owner of the restaurant, a current chef on Food Network Star stops in regularly. Service was attentive and the beer and wine selection is extensive. They don't have many options for children but its not really that kind of restaurant. The impressive, well-planned dishes might not suit them. Of course, you can never go wrong with the Tater Tots."

"High end, well cooked food at reasonable prices in healthy portions. Servers were warm and welcoming and, in no way, pretentious or over the top. We sat outside and the dining area had a deconstructed decor, with wood block tables and stone ledges surrounding the perimeter, yet was very comfortable, cozy and full of character. Great wine list and extensive menu fit for foodies, "burger and fries" types and even the most picky of eaters (my date this visit has a very limited palate!) Although they appeared to have a full house at the time, more than one server attended to our table, one of who brought us an amuse of crispy tots, cooked to perfection...what an amazing find, highly recommended!!"

"Took my fiancé for her 30th birthday not realizing there was a concert near by the same night. I truly believe they had no idea the crowd they were going to have due to this concert for the lack of staff. That being said with our 630 reservation we were not seated till 650 which we put in an appetizer order that didn't come out till 730. Our waiter never came back to ask for a drink order or to refill our water. Again they were not prepared for an event like this, but with a good reputation it was sad to see the lack of execution."

"The atmosphere and the staff are really what make this restaurant a true gem. But the summer menu right now is outstanding. Everything brought to our table was excellent. We're regulars at Hodge's and hate to admit that sometimes the food is simply good. But the last two menus have been phenomenal. We hope this is a sign that the honeymoon phase for Hodge's is over and it will now be consistently serving the food we have grown to love."

"Hodges is has a beautiful patio, its a fun vibrant spot in Downtown Cleveland -- otherwise quiet on a Sunday evening. The food was all around delightful, a bit pricey for the portion but worth it for a special occasion. The $30 three course dinner was a favorite for sure."

"I had heard a lot of great things about this restaurant so wanted to try it out. I wouldn't say it was fabulous - I think it was ok. I ordered scallops - they were good - 4 for $25. Hubby ordered short ribs - pretty chewy. Appetizer was shrimp - came with a sauce that was divine....however the shrimp was loaded with addt'l salt that was not necessary. I would try again, however I would probably get burgers and easy stuff."

"Food was great; very inventive and all in our party enjoyed their dinners. Even the pickiest among us had no complaints. The menu is limited but varied, high quality and very creative. It's a great atmosphere and a fun place to come for drinks or dinner. Be prepared for a very high noise level that can get annoying at times. The service was good, but a bit spotty. We waited a very long time for our drinks to arrive. The first wine we chose was unavailable and then we waited 10-15 minutes for the second choice. Seems like the server was at our table a lot, or not all."

". Its very rare to find an upscale resturaunt that has such an amazing special which offers a full bottle of wine with the meal. It felt like resturaunt week in late May! I enjoy finding good deals, and this was just that. My date and I had a wonderful meal. Her hanger steak was a little too done, but she settled and still enjoyed. In the future, be careful for diners more particulair than her about thier steak temp than she was. My Salmon however was to die for! Crispy on the outside, and full of flavor. The meal went great with the Pinot Noir recomended by our courteous waiter.
Overall, it was a nice experience and I would definitely recommend the tuesday menu special to friends who love food, wine, and savings."

"Went to Hodge's for a business lunch. Food was good. The only disappointment was the on-line menu did not match the actual menu in the restaurant. A few of us had our lunch decisions made before arriving, but when we sat down, none of those items were actually on the menu. Also, the caesar salad isn't prepared with romaine lettuce, I believe it was arugula. What ...? I'm sure it was an attempt to be trendy, but you just can't alter a classic like that ..."

"While a little hidden away on Euclid Ave, this is a great place to go for lunch. It has nice decor, very comfortable chairs, and is quite roomy. The food options are all delicious, and there are plenty of vegetarian options if you want it. I had the ravioli, and it was excellent."

"went there for Mother's Dayeverything we ordered was outstanding. we got an order of hanky panky Korean fried chicken a.k.a chicken wings for a snack and appetizer my wife got the Certified Angus Beef strip steak that you could cut with a butter knife I got the scallops and oh my god they were to die for. and we also got lobster mashed potatoes. our waiter was outstanding very knowledgeable about the food. I love the decor. my wife was more impressed with the core and I'm beyond than I was I was there more for the food. the only issue I had was that Chef Hodges was not there but he was spending mothers day with his mom and I totally understand and obviously a leave his restaurant in capable hands"

"Food wad delicious, but the service was mediocre at best. They weren't that busy when we were there, and it took about an hour to get a burger. I actually think the server forgot he had our table. And having to ask for water four-plus times before I got a refill, results in my overall score. A good place to try, just plan on being there awhile!"

"My girlfriend & I had a reservation at 7:30 on a Saturday. We were immediately seated & then waited an additional 23 minutes before anyone ever came to the table to even ask if we would like a drink. There was a quick apology from the hostess & that was all. After that initial experience, everything went well. Service was good, food was good but that wait at the begining set my attitude for the rest of the meal. I wasn't asking to get anything for free, but I think a comped glass of wine or appetizer would have been a nice gesture of good faith & solidarity. I was a server for years & I know how to handle things properly. It wasn't all that busy so I don't know what to attribute the wait to. I would go back, maybe it was just that day."

But a dining experience is about more than what ends up on your plate-no matter how tasty the crab cakes.
The host was first absent, then rude.
The bartender on the patio never bothered to take our drink order.
On the way out we asked bartender number one about parking validation for the garage. He said to ask the valet.
We were then trapped in the garage with a ticket that indicated a $30 parking fee or merchant validation. The valet was outside far away from the electronic gate. We drove out the wrong way. Perhaps a manager would help!"

"We went because we are fans of Hodge Podge, and Dem & Dem Sum. STICK TO FOOD TRUCKS. NO ONE greeted us. We went to the bar to wait for the rest of our party, all but one of the beers "on tap" were out, kegs empty. Hostess was nice but seated us without utensils. We had our food for a good 10 minutes before we finally got any. Our waiter, never gave us his name, and seemed either oblivious to or totally unconcerned about anything happening at our table, he disappeared on us MANY times for long periods of time.(it wasn't busy) The food and wine were excellent however. Good food, good service, that's what it's about. Even if food is not top notch, I will go back for a drink & dessert if service is good. Service was unacceptable. WONT BE BACK"

"We (party of 4) went there to celebrate my adult daughter's birthday. None of us had been there before but had seen several online reviews. We were not disappointed! Food was delicious and the service we received from our waiter, Zander, was outstanding. We will definitely be returning."

"We were in Cleveland for a personal Sunday Culinary Tour and were aware of Chris's culinary teeth so we added him to our list of stops.
Hodges should have been our first stop not our last stop. A few pointers, Valet parking is $30 in the garage beneath the restaurant, so look for on street parking or choose the very helpful valet $7.00. Loved the signage outside the restaurant and the urban vintage vibe of the restaurant. The cocktail menu is trending and creative as are the small batch bourbons behind the bar. Loved the mason jars for drinks. The wine menu is targeted and well-thought out and wines are served in Rona etched wine glasses. LOVED the tater tots and the very clever "twisted" composition of the menu. We'll be back!"

"Very enjoyable. Especially loved the goat cheese tart, the sauerkraut with tomatoes that accompanied the pork chop, and the cornbread (more like a dessert than cornbread but delicious - we ate 2 pieces with dinner and took the remaining 2 pieces home and had them for dessert the following evening. Looking forward to our next visit."

"This is a great downtown restaurant, we walked there from our hotel. The service was enthusiastic, everyone appeared to enjoy working there. The snacks were perfect for a light appetizer, we had the tuna popper and the chicken liver toast. Both were a perfect taste. Our salads, Hodge's Caesar and Baby Kale with smoked mozzarella, were both very fresh with just the right amount of dressing. My husband had the brined pork chop - very tender. I had the braised veal short rib which was very good but a little too fatty for my taste. We would definitely go back again."

"We always have a great meal at Hodge's, and this trip was no different. I would recommend going on a Tuesday for their 2 for $40 deal - we got an appetizer to share, an entree each of our choice, and a bottle of wine to share. You can't beat that! We shared the gnocchi, which is one of my favorites, my husband had the hanger steak and I had the salmon entree, and we shared a pleasant bottle of pinot grigio. Everything was delicious!"

"Superb food. I did the Sunday night Chef's special and it was sublime. The decor is a bit strange: 1950's kitchen dinette set chic, with a lot of branded unfinished wood. But the food was great and the service was first-rate: attentive, informed, not intrusive but not reticent. All in al, a terrific dining experience."

"A co-worker and I went for lunch and had a nice meal. The food was clearly upscale, well prepared with great seasonal ingredients. Food was a little slow coming out of the kitchen, slow enough to make us say "I wonder where the food is," but it was good when it arrived. Someone from the large table of angry women next to us got up and browbeat the waiter and made sure to let him know how important she was by announcing she had a flight to catch. We enjoyed the food and the entertainment. We'd go back."

"Ambiance is nice but nothing amazing. Food and service was excellent! Had the walleye special - cooked perfect, served hot with seasoned grilled vegetables. Cornbread served warm in a small cast iron skillet was very tasty. Our group shared the apple crisp and homemade brownie for dessert - both excellent and ala mode with Mitchell's ice cream. The brownie is baked when you order it and served hot from the oven. Service was friendly and very attentive. Would definitely come back."
