"I had the Beef Short Rib Risotto and it was not what I expected. The beef was dry and the risotto had no flavor. The wine that the waiter recommended was excellent though, very good red wine (Tortoise Creek Wines, Pinot Noir, France). Free parking in Uptown was nice, but I got lucky to get a spot. The free parking was full from the time I got there at 7pm till I left at 8:30pm. Very loud, due to the structure of the place, not because of loud people."

"My kids took us out for mother's day brunch. Our server was genuinely friendly in her interactions with us. The food is amazing--tasty and fresh. We have some food sensitivities and we had no problems finding delicious options at Barbette's. My youngest son commented that he felt good after eating a meal there (as opposed to the usual I-just-ate-too-much feeling many of us get from eating out. We have trouble choosing one item from the menu with so many yummy options, so we each order something and split it all up. The eggs Benedict is so good and so easy to split--not a mess like you often see in other restaurants. The quiche and waffles are also excellent. Best cappuccino I think I have ever had. Amazing desserts as well."

"The food at Barbette was really good--I had the beef short rib risotto, and my two friends had the steak frites and the farafelle. The service, however, was just sort of bizarre. Our waitress seemed afraid to approach us (I watched her literally tipetoe around our table sort of staring at us for a few minutes before she finally approached 10+ minutes after we sat down) It just made for an awkward experience overall. The guy that brought our food literally purred as he was setting it down (think tounge rolling)--what's that about? Additionally, it was HOT in the restaurant and I was sweating through most of my meal. Overall, my food was excellent, I'm just not eager to repeat that awkward experience."

"We had a large group that was meeting for breakfast on a Sunday. The decor is really unusual and fun. The noise level was a tish high. But is a busy breakfast joint in a busy area. The french toast and the bacon were voted best in town by our group. The fresh Quiche was really good as well."

"WOW! It was noisy in there; we could hardly hear one another and the server had to practically shout the specials to us. I thought the menu would be a little more French driven, so I was slightly disappointed. The food was good, but I'd say if you're looking for breakfast with a cocktail, that's the place to go. It seemed more like a bar for brunch than a good brunch with a great alcohol selection."

"Barbette always has fantastic food! We started with warm olives and the cheese plate. I especially liked the cheese plate.
Then I had the fish special for dinner. It was perfectly cooked and came in a really nice broth with mussels. For dessert we had the chocolate molten cake, creme brule, and pecan pie. The Pecan pie was the favorite followed by the creme brule. The creme brule couldn't been a bit warmer. The chocolate cake was good but nothing special.
The service was also supurb. My only complaint is that we had to wait a while for our entrees but this is to be expected with a group of five people. The music was also a little loud for my taste (it made it hard to hear our dinner companions across the table)"

"My only regret is that we haven't come here sooner. I used to live a few houses down on irving but we always went to amore for a quick snack. After our meal on Friday, barbette is probably my favorite uptown restaurant, along with Rinata and Heidis.
Will definitely come back, even making plans to reserve the cool large table at the front of the restaurant for my birthday this summer."

"Our first time to Barbette and it's a definite keeper -- we'll be back. It seems so small, but it's really well laid-out. It feels really busy, but the staff are very relaxed and nothing felt rushed and the food was great. Small menu (a very good sign in my book) and some creative cocktails plus the French stand-bys. Frites are wonderful. Salmon Tartare was outstanding. Yup, definitely will be back for another date night."

"If you go in expecting French food, you won't be disappointed. We anticipated a traditional breakfast/diner menu and ended up a bit surprised. The food was good, and somewhat interesting. I ordered the smoked chicken hash. It was more of a vegetable soup. It was very good, but Brussels sprouts and broccolini aren't exactly breakfast fare.But if you like French food, I say go for it!"

"Outstanding food and great service. The only minor complaint is the table layout. We were dining with someone we had not seen for some time and wanted to catch up. Unfortunately, our reservations did not garner us a table with any verbal privacy. We shared a banquette-style seat with two other groups. Meanwhile there was a nice table for four at the window that ultimately went to a walk-in. It was hard to visit with our friend. In the end, the food made up for the seating however."

"Great food, great times. Our order was delayed for some unstated reason, so the waitress brought out a cheese plate to "tide us over", gratis. Very nice recipes and with great specials (the Quinoa Salad with fig and pomegranite was incredible!). Most tables are in the middle of a moderately sized room, so noise is coming at you from all sides."

"This was my first visit & WOW! I now know why this restaurant consistently rates as one of the best in the Twin Cities. The decor is funky & eclectic, making it feel warm & inviting. Noise level is lively and not too loud-no problem hearing my partner during our dinner. Our server was polite,giving us just the right amount of attention. Cocktails were good-I had the Napoleon (Dynamite?) and it was good-almost like a Manhattan, but not as strong and w/ nice flavor twist. While the menu is small-this is a bistro-it is varied, and there are specials-ordered the seabass special, which was sold out so opted for Mahi Mahi-great choice. My partner ordered the lamb and said it was excellent. Portions are perfect-not too large. Great Place!"

"I have enjoyed many satisfying meals at Barbette, but sadly they have gone to Nouvelle Cuisine. Portions are small enough to fit in an egg cup and at scandalous prices. My wife ordered the duck breast and got three or four tiny slivers of duck breast with a few bits of turnip, and a tiny spring roll. It was an a la carte entree, cost $24, but was gone in three bites. My wife held off on getting an appetizer to save room for the entree. Big mistake. I ordered the three-course special. Microscopic portions. No vegetables, no bread. We left hungry. You have to ask/beg for everything, even food. Diner beware."

"Overall, Barbette was a great dining experience. Great food, great service and a comfortable yet energetic atmosphere. The only downside was the amount of food per plate ordered. We went with the MN Restaurant Week menu, which was 3 courses. Each course was delicious, but the size of the dish was more appropriate for a 5-6 course tasting. After our second/main course we had our waiter hold the dessert and ordered more food because we knew we weren't walking out of there with a full belly."

"Food was okay, fries and soup we had were too salty. I had the melt and it did not taste significant, at least it was not salty. The pistachio dessert I had was super good however. Service was also wonderful so a good food experience overall."

"Very nice, hip and unpretentious French-style bistro in the heart of Uptown. Vibrant atmosphere and always good food, nice wine list. Reservations for weekends highly recommended. They always participate in Mpls-St Paul Restaurant Week, which is neighborhood-friendly. My friend from London thoroughly enjoyed her lunch and wished there was a cafe in her area like Barbette."

"From appetizers to the main course, to an amazing pistachio panna cotta for dessert -- every last bite of this meal was fantastic! Also, I adore the cozy ambiance of Barbette, which makes for an even better dining experience."

"Good was fair but not great. I always expect great french bread at a french restaurant but bread wasn't great. We got a fruit plate and fish appetizer plate but only got a few slices of bread with each and had to beg for more. My mushroom risotto was pretty bland."

"There are things that foodies will appreciate, but a couple if the dishes were a little bland: the buckwheat crepe, for example.
I ordered the organic eggs with rosti potatoes and sausage. It was tasty, though it was better when I came alone than when I was with a small group. I will still go back - it is my new favorite find.
My latte with honey was delicious!"

"Took my boyfriend here for his birthday brunch. I had the Smoked Salmon Niçoise Salad and he had the daily special Chicken hash. Both were beautiful to look at and tasted even better! We both practically licked our plates clean."

"On Saturday, February 16 at 2:00 my mother, brother and myself enjoyed lunch while celebrating the life of a great French friend. Many tears and laughs were exchanged amoung us, more tears at times. Carolyn was our server and was very attentive to our needs. Thank you for a great afternoon and the complimentary piece of carrot cake was much appreciated and a thoughtful gesture. We can not wait to come back again soon."

"We'd heard good things about it for years, went for a special occasion and it didn't disappoint. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. The food is exquisite -- classic French based with modern twists. We appreciated the European sized portions, which left room for a great dessert. Our waitress couldn't have been nicer and knew her stuff. When our daughter and 2 of her friends popped in, the staff moved us all seamlessly to the semi-circle low bar and our bartender/waiter there was absolutely charming. We'll definitely be back."

"Haven't been back to Barbette for so long, and I can't remember why not. Came here for breakfast with my husband and son, and we loved it! The staff was so friendly and great, and the food was terrific. The eggs benedict special was divine! My 11 year old loved the waffle with blueberries and lemon curd. The coffee was hot, strong, and readily filled. We will be back."

"dark lit, cozy, great drinks and delicious food! We went for the first time Valentines day and really enjoyed our meal. Wasn't too expensive either, $100 for 2 people for dinner and 2 drinks each. Loved the cheese plate and my risotto was FAB!"
