"Our first time eating at the Breakwater, and would definitely go back. Menu choices very good, and our particular selections were wonderful. Our waiter was outstanding, although had to wait too long for the soup to be brought to the table...not the waiter's fault. The presentation of the food was very nice, and the taste and flavor did not disappoint."

"We went early as we were seeing a show at the peace center. Had a fantastic server that had excellent recommendations and was perfect for the job. Attentive, but could tell we were enjoying an evening as husband and wife, and chatted but not overly.
Food was fantastic. We went the tapas route and everything was cooked to perfection.
Keep up the good work and thank you for an enjoyable evening out!!"

"We are foodies. Greenville offers an unparallelled pallette of high end dining experiences so we are a bit spoiled.
We visitied Breakwater aftering reading many positive reviews. The food itself was prepared very well and the ambience was one of high energy and windows to people watch. The service however was lacking. Our waiter, Stephen, was not at all personable and quite frankly, a bit condescending. We will likely visit Breakwater again, strictly based upon their local well prepared fare. We are hopeful that Stephen is the exception to the staffing rule at Breakwater, rather than the norm. We entertain clients often and plan to give breakwater another visit in the future based upon their quality local fare."

"My first visit to Breakwater and what I liked was the option of Tapas and full portions. I ordered seasonal vegetables on the side which cosisted of grilled fresh asparagus, kale and whole baby carrots. I couldn't resist the Lamb Sliders with homemade fries. Great menu choices. My husband ordered the soup of the day - Lobster bisque and then the tapas portion of the shrimp & grits. My only complaint was noise level of the music...Jazz...which made it difficult to talk over some of the songs."

"I would recommend it with limits. My companions enjoyed their meal, but mine was a vastly over-seasoned, over-sauced flounder, which they were kind enough to remove from our bill. The restaurant had a very fun bar and wine room, but the service was quite sketchy, possibly due to a large party in the wine room. Seems like they would hire extra servers for that. The service in the dining area was friendly as could be, but it seemed like they were understaffed. Overall, a fun place with upbeat atmosphere. I would try again."

"We had a wonderful date night at Breakwater and greatly enjoyed our server William (awesome mustache by the way). He explained the menu well and was obviously a great server as the restaurant was busy and he never allowed himself to "get in the weeds." We really enjoyed our meal, but the fried green tomatoes and lobster bisque definitely stood out as favorites. Our favorite thing about this place is that we can get a bunch of different things and share them. We are definitely the type of people that like to try several things from the menu and the way their menu is set up, really allows us to be able to do that."

"Breakwater is one of our favorite restaurants in Greenville. Each time we have dined there, our food has been incredible and our server has been really friendly and helpful (ask for Drew, he's great!). The scallops are my favorite, and I have a hard time picking anything else over them. Every dish my boyfriend has chosen has really been enjoyable (most recently, the lamb meatloaf and the filet). He also really likes calamari, and we've ordered it all over town. Breakwater has the best! There's a great cocktail/beer/wine menu, too!"

"I've dined here three times. The food and service were excellent. I recommend ordering several different dishes and sharing around the table. No reason to limit yourself to appetizer, entree and dessert when the food is this good! But be warned, the restaurant is very noisy, almost unpleasantly so, setup is open and there is little to no privacy, also bring your sweater, because it's cold in there."

"While the food was good, the atmosphere took a lot away. Opens windows on two sides, with one showing am empty lot with no parking signs did not add anything to the evening. "The food was delicious. I want to stress upon that because I enjoyed my meal immensely. I had the NY strip and my husband and three appetizers as his entree. There was not one thing that we disliked and the presentation was beautiful as well. He enjoyed the Calamari with Buffalo sauce and the Southern sampler platter. He loved the oysters and said the duck was to die for. It was kind of slow since we went on a Monday night, but we would love to go here again."

"We had a Saturday evening dinner for a family gathering of six people. The meal was fresh and the service was very attentive. On our last visit, Saturday night, it appeared the restaurant was short staffed. Our waiter, Drew, did his best to keep up, but appeared to be stretched too far. It appeared he was waiting tables in different areas of the restaurant and therefore the service suffered. Breakwater has become our go to spot in Greenville and we hope this is an aberration and not a trend."

"Well appointed restaurant with a gracious staff. The menu provided a variety of options and the portion sizes were nice. I wasn't sure what to think of a butterbean hummus, but it was really good. The staff was friendly and seemed eager to make our experience enjoyable. Considering the location, downtown Greenville, finding a parking space was not difficult."

"The food and service at Breakwater were outstanding. I had a tapas portion of the scallops and the rack of lamb...very good. The portions were smaller than expected, though, for the price. Overall, the ambiance was nice, but I did not like our table at all. It was right next to the kitchen, with bright fluorescent lights shining on us...felt like I was in a spotlight all night. This seems to be a theme with restaurants lately, have the kitchen in plain sight. I don't think it really adds anything, plus the fluorescent lights kill the mood... Considering it was a birthday dinner, it would have been nice to be placed at a better table than the one right in the high traffic kitchen area."

The salad, cheese plate and lamb were outstanding - the blue crab marinated house special, was not so special. A good wine and cocktail selection. The restaurant was busy and loud, but not so loud that we could not have a conversation.

"This was our first dining experience at Breakwater, but it will not be our last. The food was excellent and our waiter outstanding. His recommendations were right on the spot. Had read a review where the person said the portions were very small. I totally disagree with that comment. I had the braised short ribs with potatoes and collards and it was lush. The husband had the lamb meatloaf which he said was excellent. Hats off to the management and staff."

"Soup, salad and main meal was excellent. Desserts (apple cobbler, beignets) below average. Service was very good. My biggest complaints was that it was very noisy inside, and the 2 person tables were crammed right next to each other. Almost impossible to have any kind of conversation with my wife, and impossible not to hear everything being said by the couple to our left and to our right. This was the weekend after Valentines, so maybe they were trying to cram as many tables in as possible, but I found it very annoying, especially when you are spending over $100 for dinner for two. I will not return due to this, which is a shame because the food itself (excluding the desserts) was very good."

"We enjoyed our meal at Breakwater. For a restaurant that is mainly known for it's seafood, my filet was one of the best I've ever had. Cameron took great care of us. There were only two negatives . . . the noise level was very loud at times, coming from a table of 10. And we were seated at a table for two, which consists of one long booth, with small tables and a chair on the other side. When seated there, you feel like you're eating with the people on either side of you. One nice touch was that they had a long pillow on either side of me so I felt like I had some personal space. The next time, I will ask to be seated at a regular table."
