A casual, split-level restaurant and bar offering American diner-inspired food along with inventive drinks in the vibrant Midtown Village area.
The menu offers novel twists on traditional dishes alongside a selection of domestic micro-distilled spirits and craft beers, as well as creative cocktails and gourmet “spiked” milkshakes.
"This restaurant is now closed. We ate there on the last day they were in business. The server informed us they no longer had blue cheese dressing or ranch dressing when we ordered chicken wings. I thought that was so odd but found out why when they brought us the check at the end of the meal. That is when they told us it was their last day in operation."

"Square peg was the perfect place to eat before going to the Walnut theater. The staff was very friendly and the wait staff in particular was sufficiently attentive, not hovering but aware of our drink levels. Loved the exposed brick and wood floors. Was amused by the "Rosie the riveter" inspired framed posters."

"We quite often go to the Walnut St. Theater, and this restaurant is perfectly placed for a pre-theater dinner. Service was friendly and quick, food was good and prices were fair. We'll be there again!"

"I think we had an inexperienced waitress. It took us 45 minutes while we watched others around us who arrived later be served much quicker. When we omplained she was defensive, blamed it on the kitchen and challenged us on why we didn't tell her we were in a hurry."

"Went in for brunch and had the breakfast poutine and a Bloody Mary. Both were phenomenal! Wish I had more time to go back and explore the whole menu as it all looked incredible. Especially the drinks. I advised a few friends to go, and they did, and the loved every bite as well. Thanks!"

"In town for a few days. Yelp/open table searches produced square peg. Other reviews/ online menu looked promising. Looks can be deceiving. Signature item (mac&cheese grilled cheese) was dull and lacked flavor without the tomato soup. Salmon BLT was tasty but the filet was way too small for the bread upon which it was served. Best items were the ginger Arnold Palmer and the kids Mahi sticks. If you've got $60 to spend for dinner, choose elsewhere."

"We were staying overnight in Philly & looking for someplace within walking distance from hotel, moderately priced, picky kid/teen friendly and we were not disappointed. Two apps (fries & onion rings) were excellent, mac & cheese grilled cheese was phenomenal, fried chicken & pulled pork were both good, two desserts. Portions & price were both quite reasonable. For 7PM on a Saturday, the place was not jammed at all, but they did have a big party come in & were setting up for another one, so perhaps its more of a pre/post theatre place (the Walnut Street Theatre is right down the way)? Anyway, would recommend and would definitely go back."

"Very good comfort food. I've been here a few times and the food has always been yummy and the service attentive. Never seems to be busy though so I wonder about that. But I have no problem recommending this restaurant."

"I went to the Square Peg with my brother after not having had seen him in a long time. The service was quick but not too frequent and we both enjoyed the comfort food that the restaurant has to offer. It was not too crowded and the atmosphere was very pleasant, allowing us to have the chance to catch up. I would definitely return to the Square Peg again."

"Really enjoy the turkey burgers and this is coming from someone who is not that much of a healthy eater - the salad we ordered with the burger, instead of the fries, was a nice suprise and very tasty with a great dressing on it - not just a bunch of wilted greens. Service was timed well and very good customer service -"

"A great place to go for any meal. We had been for dinner and drinks before but this was our first brunch. True to form the options were classic fare with a delicious twist. And it was nice that the unique drink specials which are a mainstay of Square Peg were on offer. My husband enjoyed a "Garden Mary" (bloody mary with cucumber vodka and a few other additions) and I tried the strawberry lemonade (Limoncello, strawberry rum and champagne). The food was also creative and well presented. Everyone enjoyed their meal and the appetizers were well sized for sharing. Favorites included the southwest tater-tots and the spinach and allouette omelette."

"This was my third time at this restaurant because of its lcoation, within walking distance of my house, however based on my last visit I will not be returning. Greek salad was okay, not traditonal, no egg and no anchovies. The pecan crusted trout was insipid, the fish had no seasoning, not crisp and not sure that it was even fresh. The sauce was a sweet mesh of pecans and what tasted like syrup. The dish came with potatoes and asparagus which would have been good if not runined by the sauce that came with the fish."

"Lots of comfort foods! The grilled cheese mac & cheese was fantastic! It's a great place for a lunch or dinner date with a friend or two. I would definitely go back to try some of the other menu dishes - so many tempting things to choose from. I wanted to pick them all! :)"

"Great food, comfortable atmosphere, & awesome service! We eat at the Square Peg every time we see as show at the Walnut St Theater, It's just down the block and when we let them know we are seeing a show they always get us in and out with plenty of time to make curtain time.We have sampled a good portion of the menu and have yet to have something we didn't like. They have a good selection that is very interesting sure to please almost any palate. If your in the neighborhood you can't go wrong. Oh and did I mention they are very reasonably priced!"

"We went for brunch and we were escorted to our table very quickly. We placed our drink order immediately thereafter but it took almost 25 minutes for the drinks to arrive. We ordered right off the "drink specials" menu, but apparently they were not prepared. It was unfortunate because it dampened the mood a bit. The waitress was very friendly and kept apologizing for the delay, but management did not seem to intervene and expedite on our behalf. Food was great and I will probably return, but I hope that the drink service problems will get sorted out before."

"Lovely little place with a rather varied menu. All of which made it hard to actually choose what to eat. Brunch brought a decent crowd in, but they weren't obtrusive. The only issue I had was the service was slow on the upkeep, Extending my stay almost by 30%. My recommendation for a dish has to be the Mac and cheese grilled cheese with their drunken tomato soup."

"We were excited to check out Square Peg after walking by often and seeing it so crowded. It was extremely disappointing. The burgers were supposed to be done medium rare and were half well done half rare as if put on odd spots on the grill. The highlight of the meal was the General Tso Salad we ordered as an app... but despite asking for no bleu cheese, it still arrived with it. The server was hard to get to come over to the table even though there were only 3 tables in the restaurant. I couldn't even get a refill on my drink. It was a huge let down and we will not return."

"Went at 11:30 am for lunch...not crowded. There was no communication between our server and the back of the house. I asked for dressing on the side...didn't happen. Halfway through meal, server showed up and said he was sorry. Asked for ground pepper for salad and was given a salt and pepper shaker. Asked for separate checks and was cheerfully told yes...however this did not happen. Asked a second and finally third time in order to get separate checks. Then the server disappeared with the cash payment and never returned with change. My partner had to track him down in the back to get the change and an apology.
Food was good. Follow-through needs work..."

"My husband and I never get a lunch out and we were really looking forward to Square Peg. The food was very dissapointing. We got the putine and the "curds" we're very bitter, like they had gone bad. The eggs on top were rubbery.
We enjoy all kinds of food but the food was not interesting or good, for that matter."

"The wait staff was AWESOME! We had to wait for a table...the staff was apologetic and kept us informed, and our drinks were on the house (soda and Pellegrino). The onion rings were tempura style and they were fabulous. My husband enjoyed the breakfast poutine. I had the hanger steak special with sauteed baby spinach and maple sweet potato fries...an excellent choice, but why do they serve these things in bowls? The sweet potatoes were so so good. Great menu, terrific service...we'll definitely be back."

"Had an enjoyable meal. The food was good, especially the fried chicken. Service was a bit slow but friendly. We weren't in a hurry so that didn't really matter. A very vibrant bar scene that went from empty to packed in just a few minutes. Would go back when in the neighborhood."

"Square Peg is consistently good comfort food. It's a great mid-range price option if you are looking for brunch, lunch or a quick dinner out. We eat there pretty regularly and both the service and the food are consistent."

"Horrible experience. We waited for a half hour even though we came in with a reservation. The manager was disorganized and texting on the floor. The service was slow and not great. Food was expensive and got to our table stone cold. The fried chicken was so dry it was like trying to eat a brick."

"Was absolutely fantastic! I was with a group of friends and it was our first time there. The waiter was full of suggestions (even for our resident vegetarian!). Everyone was very attentive and it was beautiful inside. The food was beyond delicious! We had the steak pot pie, grilled Mac and cheese, onion rings, and the oriechetti pasta dish. So good! We recommended Square Peg that night to another friend. Definitely should try it!"
