Located in the heart of Sussex County, Andre's is a charming store front eatery, pleasing diners since 1998.
As you enter the restaurant you can see hand crafted cocktails, both classics and originals, pass over a gleaming copper topped bar. Move deeper into the restaurant and experience one of two quaint dining rooms, each with exposed brick walls featuring a rotating exhibit of works by local artists and photographers.
The heart and soul of this establishment is the kitchen. Relax and enjoy the creations from Chef Andre' de Waal's market driven, Euro-American menu.
"The food there is always fantastic! They made me a happy birthday wrote in chocolate on a dessert we bought. They have a great 5 course meal thats so worth it. The service was ok and they sat us in a beautiful spot. Even though i thought the service was lacking, I still tipped well over 20% for my wife and I."

"Andre's never fails to provide excellent food, fantastic choices, nice décor and an overall special evening to spend with family and friends for a lovely night out. Mother's day is already a special occasion and having dinner at Andre's makes it even more magical. Each item offered on the menu can certainly be considered a "special". I thoroughly enjoyed the swordfish which was moist, extremely tender and served with a delicate butter sauce and delicious vegetables, they had run out of sticky rice so the waitress asked what I would like to replace it. I asked what are my choices? and her response was Andre can make any starch you would like and I said, how about a pesto pasta? The chef accommodated me with a wonderful penne pasta!"

"What a great place. Don't go if you are in a rush. My wife and I went with another couple and we had their 5 course meal. The food was great, the service was very attentive. Only 1 problem where my wife didn't finish her salmon. They took it to wrap up but forgot to bring it back. We forgot too, so she was disappointed in not having it for the next day."

"You wouldn't expect to find such a restaurant like Andre's in the heart of Sussex County, but there it is, nestled inconspicuously between the small businesses on Spring St. And when you walk through the front door, you might imagine you've been transported to a trendy neighborhood somewhere west and across a river because the staff is courteous and professional and not because the corporate handbook has explained how in bullet points, but because they obviously want everyone who walks in to have a great experience. But that's only the first few minutes. For the remainder of your time at Andre's you will have expertly prepared food. The roasted chicken was the most flavorful piece of chicken I've ever had."

"Spectacular restaurant off the beaten path (although on the main street) in Newton, New Jersey. From the decor to the wait staff, from the amuse-bouche to the final forkful of dessert, Andre's is remarkable in every way.
Trained at CIA in Hyde Park, Andre prepares each dish with panache and great care. "You eat with your eyes" my girlfriend is fond of saying, Andre understands this more than most chefs in rural New Jersey restaurants - his presentation is as exceptional as the food itself.
The Lobster-Potato Ravioli appetizer was delicious and cooked to perfection, with a sauce that makes you wish you hadn't already consumed all the bread in the basket. Pork Belly with Kimchee appetizer was perfection on a plate."

"Food, service, and ambiance were all very good. I would like to see at least one kid-friendly entre. Also, it is just a little too expensive to become a regular week-end dine out spot."

"Food was wonderful and the service was excellent. Wine list was acceptable but not outstanding. One dining room was quite nice but the other was a little dark. All servers were knowledgable about the food. We will return."

"I just hate it when lousy service ruins a perfectly good meal. We went to Andres prior to attending a show at the theater just steps away down the block. The wait staff asked if we were going to the show and when we responded "yes" they gave the impression they would be all over our having to be out in time. But instead our wait staff seemed to just disappear at about 7:15. There was no offer for a second glass of wine, no one came to take our dessert order -- which was included in our meal btw. Even getting the check was difficult - so much so that we ended up being late to the show despite our having been seated at 6. Show started at 8. The meal was really good, excellent in fact, but the experience was terrible."

"While the overall experience was very good, the food very fresh and carefully prepared, I have always found Andre's food bordering on the bland side. For someone who has created such a zesty house salad dressing, I would expected a bit more flavor punch to his entrees."

"Amazing meal. Our first time to Andres and are already talking about our next "date night" as an excuse to return. Chef (and owner Andre) personally visits each table. We dined on a Friday night and any party without a reservation was turned away as they were booked, reservations a definate."

"We went for Steak Night. The veal chop, strip steak, and rack of lamb were great. All of the special steak sauces were good, but the truffle vinaigrette was superb. Great selection of side dishes. The mac and cheese, duck fat fries, and glazed carrots were good. Appetizer clams casino and salads and brownie sundae were also excellent. Team service by wait staff was well coordinated. Nice selection of reasonably priced wines available. We enjoyed the Pedronicelli Zin. Great night. Definitely going again."

"Very nice ambiance; sophisticated, cozy, and interesting. Not happy with my coctail of pomegranite martini (strange tasting). Salmon was nothing exiting. Duck breast was absolutely outstanding and perfectly prepared, but could have been served with a bit more sauce. Red velvet cheese cake was a disappointment. Overall, really nice restaurant, good service, but just had an off day (for my tastes)on some items. Would definetly return and recommend."

"Top shelf experience as usual. The Rabbit treat was excellent, even my wife ate it!! All four dishes were perfection and service was outstanding, even though the restaurant was booked solid for Valentine's Day Weekend. We were there for show at Newton Theatre and this is perfect place to start your night. Our server was attentive and her recommendations for dinner and the chocolate/vanilla mousse was the topping on the cake. My brother and his wife were with us from Hunterdon County and will come again as well. Thank you for an outstanding evening."

"Overall the food was very good. The Ambiance was what you would expect in a small town, 100 year old store front. The decor was fine. The issue was the front of the house operation. Servers grouping and talking at the bar, servers not making eye contact when you looking for them. the majority of the staff is very young 20-25 yrs old and need instruction.
Don't gather an chat Look for diners who are making eye contact. No cell phones. Know the menu. Not only prep, but orgin, domestic/imported etc..... The staff needs to be placed in stations to monitor the diners without always strolling.
I would go back, The front house operations are reducing the value of the dinning expirence."

"Overall a very good dining experience in terms of food quality/taste. I believe our server was fairly new which resulted in a little less then expected in terms of the level of the service. For example, our initial drink order was very delayed plus bread was not provided to the table until asked for."

"While still better than most restaurants in the area, it seemed that Andre's food quality and service weren't up to its usual standards on the night we had dinner there recently. Perhaps it was because of the large private party being held in the adjoining dining room, but we were disappointed in how long we had to wait for our order and in the run-of-mill quality of our meals. The meals we've had there in the past were carefully and creatively prepared, plated, and served. This time--from the cold, dry bread and overly dressed salad to the unimaginative plate of pasta and meatballs with too much sauce to the steak with a sorry side of dry, uninspired vegetables and potatoes--the food we had was not what we had come to expect from Andre's."
