For the past five years, we have been blessed to bring you Pizza D.O.C.Now, we’re settling into our own, creating European dishes with a personal touch. Welcome to Himmel’s. When you walk into our restaurant, we want you to feel like you are at home. Our amazing wood-burning oven is the first of its kind in the city of Chicago. The oven is straight from Rome and has been making authentic pizzas and breads for more then 15 years. The flavor profile this culinary vessel brings to pizza is so spectacular; we just couldn’t let our other foods get jealous. So we started to experiment and found that our specials have been such a hit, we wanted to make them a more permanent fixture. Our wood-burning oven will still be churning out our famous Roman style pizzas made with the freshest ingredients, handcrafted and baked in a 700-degree oak burning brick oven.
"Brunch here is not the same ole same ole. The dessert and grilled veggies alone are worth it. I normally wouldn't eat pasta off a brunch (waste of calories, filler etc) but the fresh mushroom penne made me go up 3 times. And the custom waffles! omg! So fluffy & creamy"

"We read other reviews but didn't believe it could be that bad. We were going to be in the area and liked the variety of menu choices. It took over an hour to get our soups and salads. After two hours we still didn't have our dinners. After two hours and fifteen minutes we got up and left. When we got there only one other table occupied so there was no excuse. The owner was too busy sitting at the bar and the chef was too busy talking with some customers at their table. No wonder it took so long. We had to ask our server multiple times to bring things. On so many levels, this is not a well run establishment. We dine out at least three times a week and have never written a review but this experience was so awful we had to warn others."

"The chicken schnitzel was exactly like my Oma's. The mashed potatoes were creamy and the veggies were fresh. My friend had the champagne pork schnitzel and that was excellent! The spatzel was delicious! I will be going here for another authentic German meal. I am the first on my Dad's side that was born in America, so I grew up with my Oma cooking traditional German meals my whole life!"

"The menu was an interesting combination of German and Italian cuisine. The pizza is awsome and so was the pasta dish we ordered. We are going to be interested to try some of the German dishes. The wait staff was terrific and very friendly. This is a very kid friendly restaurant and my kids which are very picky really enjoyed the food."

"We came there to celebrate a birthday. The staff was awesome; very accommodating and friendly. We even brought our own cake and they set up the candles and walked it at the end of our meal for us. Thank you for that. The food was great (as always) and we even enjoyed the new riceball appetizers. Great food, great times, great place, with great friends. Can't go wrong! Thanks again. Keep up the great work!"

"Very good in general. Like the decor and the place is very comfortable. The ceiling lights were cool. On food, the grilled calamari was more than memorable. The sauce had a sweetness I really liked. Had Sea Bass stuffed with Crab and it was quite good also. We stuck to the non-Italian and all were more than satisfied. I would expand this part of the menu a bit :-) ."

"There is nothing I hate more than getting served the main course when I have "not" finished the appetizer or salad. The restaurant seem more interested in getting us in and out then making it a pleasurable dinning experience."

"Great reinvention of a former upscale pizzaria, Himmel's is a modern European restaurant with a gourmet spin on traditional favorites from duckling to pizza from their wood-burning oven. The food was delicious, prices were reasonable and the service was welcoming and not overly friendly. This is a good fit for the neighborhood which ranges from multi-generation families to hipsters. Definitely a must-try!"

"Pleasantly surprised that Himmel's is basically the same as Pizza DOC. Lots of variety on the menu and the food and service were great. The fish and chips were especially good, light on the breading and tasty cod and perch."

"There is no kid menu. We had 2 waitresses it seemed. The one waitress who seated us and got our drinks etc was so unfriendly. There were so many tables open and they originally were going to sit us right by the door but we asked for another table. Of course the food helps recover the flaws."

"Great brunch buffet the standouts are the mushroom alfredo pasta and the breakfast pizza. This is a great place for a couple or a large group. Waffles need a little work, they don't have much flavor and a few more offerings on the buffet would be great but all in all it is a great restaurant!"

"The change from Pizza DOC to Himmel's is not an improvement. The menu is now a strange mix of Italian and German. The German dishes we tried were average. The spaetzle were just noodles, probably done as a timesaver rather than hand making spaetzle. The Dishes were bland and under seasoned. If we go back it will be for the old standards, mainly the pizza. If they truly bill themselves as 'European' why are only Italy and Germany represented?"

"My husband Joe and I went to Himmels to celebrate Valentine's Day, not only was the food delicious but the atmosphere was cozy and romantic. This place is a gem! The sisters who own the restaurant greeted each table and wished everyone a Happy Valentine's Day, they even had heart shaped bruschetta and chocolate dove treats on the tables, adorable! The vibe and energy is cool, layed back, what a wonderful change from the hassle and bustle world we live in today. We both ordered the special for Valentine's Day, my husband had the filet, I had the sea bass stuffed with crabmeat, outstanding!!! I would highly recommend this place to anyone!"

"Have been here a coupe of times when it was Pizza DOC. I've always thought of it as northern Italian/southern Austrian/German because it certainly had a Germanic influence. Now that it is Himmel's the menu has expanded to include more of the Germanic foods. What we had was excellent and prepared very well. The restaurant has a very cozy feel and is very attractive. However, because of all the brick, noise is bounced around quite a bit so this is definitely not a real quiet spot. Price is reasonable for the quality you receive and the selection is good. One of my "go-to" restaurants. Definitely recommend it for couples and adults...not so much for kids."
