Mobile's first James Beard semi finalist "best chef in the south" Chef Wesley True's new Southern Style Bistro. Located in Midtown Mobile in the former Smith's Bakery. Fresh takes on Southern classics drawn from local purveyors. Fresh cocktails and regional beers on tap. Locally Owned. Locally Grown.
"True Midtown kitchen has been evolving since it took over the space of the previous restaurant, The Bakery. They now have a Prix Fixe jazz dinner about once per month. We attended the first jazz brunch on Mother's Day, and the musical group had been pared down to a trio of piano, bass, and the excellent vocalist Amy True. The service was very good. The food was a little off, though, and my steak and eggs came with undercooked meat and overcooked poached eggs. I think it will be better in the future when they work the kinks out, since the dinner menu generally is reliable, and we always enjoy the music at the jazz dinners. Definitely a great addition to the midtown Mobile dining scene, with a jazzy twist from time to time. Look it up!"

"My family has been traveling to Mobile for the past four years to visit while our son attended college there. We always enjoyed the local restaurants but never as much as we did on this trip. We just went back for his graduation and found new restaurants in the city which could be described as "fine dining" establishments. Our experience at True Midtown Kitchen was wonderful. Staff was very attentive, friendly and professional. Food was delicious and innovative."

"The waiter was very knowledgable and made very good suggestions. Everyone made my kids feel welcome and important. The food was delicious. The kids loved the atmosphere and the way the waiter listened to and included them."

"Finally a restaurant fit for foodies in Mobile. Excellent regionally sourced and styled creative cooking. Casual, comfortable and friendly. After trying it last fall for dinner we have returned for lunch twice and dinner again this time. Being that we live in New Orleans that is a hardy recommendation."

"The food was close to being rated as very good - it just needed a bit more "fine tuning" to get to the next stage. I ordered the smoked fried chicken with biscuits. Good, but the flavors weren't fully integrated, like it was not cooked long enough to meld the flavors."

"From a Foodie from Chicago who travels a lot. We wanted a local Mobile, AL experienced while in town on business. Had an enjoyable time sitting at an outdoor table and good food."

"I cannot say enough good about the food, dinner choices, value for food and service. The appetizers were great and very appealing for Mobile. Must try the smoked chicken and dumplings OMG. The pecan pie was so good we ditched the birthday cake we brought with us for the event. Located in the old Smith bakery building on Dauphin Street adds historic atmosphere...and if you go for a birthday be sure Richard True sings it!!"

"Had a great evening here. The Shrimp & Grits was a favorite and the service was attentive without being intrusive. Dinner was served almost too quickly (we didn't order appetizers or salads). I'll come back here next time I'm in town!"

"The restaurant came highly recommended so we looked up the menu on the website. Once we sat down to order we found out the menu had changed the previous weekend and one of the items on the current menu was out of stock due to high demand the night before."

"Thanks to Harry, the service was very "upscale". Loved the biscuits and most of the food was almost perfect. Bisque was a little salty and one guest hoped for more shrimp in the grits. Redfish got great comments although I prefer a slight more seasoning. Very good comments overall from our guests that joined us for lunch."

"Another hidden gem off the usual tourist areas but well worth the trip. We met the very interesting owner who is well on his way to making a splash with this restaurant. Service and food were great as were the drinks. There is a nice bar area that we will take advantage of on our next trip to Mobile."

"Five of us were in Mobile for a conference, and were pleasantly surprised to be able to reserve a table (via OpenTable) for Valentine's Day evening. Regular menu wasn't in place that night -- it was a fixed-price menu with three courses. Nice choices were available for each of the three courses, and everyone at the table enjoyed all three courses. Server was friendly and attentive. When the manager (perhaps owner?) realized that we had gone outside to meet our cab after the meal, he came outside to thank us for having eaten with them, and to check on whether we had enjoyed our meal. Definitely a "go-back" place for the next time I'm in Mobile."

"Located in an old bakery in midtown make this very accessible to Mobile and eastern shore diners. The environment is open and comfortable for casual or formal dining featuring a creatively delicious menu that changes periodically so you have the curiosity to return. I appreciate the opportunity to find locale restauranteurs that deliver and these guys do."

"It was very nice. My husband had a broken chair, but no incident because of it. The area we were set up in was not as cozy as I hoped for. Everyone was attentive and very professional. A good place to go. We enjoyed ourselves."
