"We finally made it to Ella's, after hearing so much about it from friends and clients. Ella's most definitely lived up to its very fine reputation. From the moment we entered, until we waved goodby to the owners in the parking lot as we were leaving, we felt very welcomed and comfortable. Everyone was friendly, personable and knowledgable. Our server, Courtney, was most attentive.
The menu was amazing, with so many extraordinary choices. More often than not, farm to table fresh menus can be rather limited, but happily, this was not the case at Ella's. The wine list has a perfect mix for many tastes. We are looking forward to the next time we can dine there."

"We live 30 min away- well worth the drive- every morsel was delicious, although $$$ (about $100 per couple, w/tip).

"Saturday was our zillionth dinner wth friends at this justly-celebrated restaurant when, once again, we were not disappointed. My pork chop special was perfectly carmelized and moist; the kale salad--which three of us ordered--was delicious to chew; and the Icelandic cod--which I tasted--was even better than the cod we ate in Iceland three weeks ago. The wait-staff were informed and gracious, a tribute to James and Chef Jeanie's high standards."

"I went with my boyfriend to Ella's over the weekend. We had high hopes for this place, but ended up being disappointed. The menu was well written, but the execution was poor. The Mac and cheese was way over cooked and the cheese sauce separated. The braised meat was dry and had barely any flavor. We also disliked how there wasn't much of a red wine selection by the glass. The service was great and everyone was very friendly. I also thought the place had good lighting and a nice atmosphere. Overall, Ella's was okay. With a few tweaks I think it can be outstanding..."

"This was our first time at Ella's, after we'd heard rave reviews. My husband and I shared the tuna taco appetizer, which was very good. I had the filet special with white asparagus and side of lobster mac and cheese, which was excellent. My husband had the halibut with mashed and baby turnips, which was also very good. We shared the chocolate trio. Food and wine were excellent and very happy with our service too. Thank you!"

"We had read reviews of Ella's before we made reservations so our expectations were high. And they were for the most part absolutely met. The appetizers were so appealing that we almost made our entire meal from the selections, but then we would have missed trying everything else The appetizers were particularly well done--calamari, which we always order when on the menu in more gourmet RI restaurants, were perfectly done. Crispy, with a hot and sweet sauce that did not drown the calamari...well, we would go back just for that. The tuna tacos also melded a set of flavors into a delicious whole. Ordering them with the calamari gave us an experience of hot and cold, crispy and soft, sweet, spicy, and salty. Worth the hour drive from Providence"

"It was our first time and Ella's and it was excellent. The server was efficient and knowledgeable about the menu. We went with friends we don't see often and wanted to spend time catching up. We never felt hurried but courses were delivered in a timely fashion and I never felt that I had to look up and wonder when something was coming. Three of us had the scallop special with 3 large scallops topped with crab and then caramelized and we all thought it excellent. The fourth had duck and it received a similar rating. We left talking about when we could get back for another dinner. It is definitely worthy of a second visit."

"I've eaten at Ella's twice now. The first time was for my birthday. My girlfriend an I sat in the bar and had drinks and appetizers. We raved about the place for months after that.
We went back for Valentines day expecting the same wonderful experience, and I'm certain we would have had it if it weren't for our waiter.
Our waiter was an older gentleman. He was very snooty and aloof and practically ignored our table all night. It seemed like he took one look at us, even though we were dressed appropriately, and decided we were too young to tip well. (we're in our 20s) I've eaten at most of the best restaurants in the state, and a couple of the best in the country, but this waiter made us feel totally unwelcome.

"We were really looking forward to our first visit and a quiet dinner. Unfortunately, our night was quickly compromised when a party was seated next to us (note some of the tables are very close together) and proceeded to talk NON-STOP in a range of volumes that did not allow my wife and I to even begin a sentence without being distracted by our new "neighbors". Note, it would have been very awkward to have asked to switch tables. As a result, we left with very mixed feelings about the evening and if we choose to visit again we will be very specific about where we will be seated."

"It was as if we were in the dining room of good friends; comfortable, warm and relaxing. Beginning with our server, Mike, professional and charming, well versed in the menu and able to make wine recommendations based on our choices, to the starters of grilled oysters in a garlic herb butter, the arrival of a surprised amuse bouche of salmon tartar- a simple pleasure, to that evening’s special, black ink pasta with fresh local lobster in a sherry & cream volute sauce delivered on ever note. It was a pure gastronomical experience, each dish providing its own flavor journey. Looking forward to our next visit."

"This is a wonderful addition to the good South County RI restaurant scene. The food is delicious with a very broad menu. The fixed Price menu is, unlike many places, generous with many choices. The dining room is comfortable and the service superb. What more can be said. Last night was our foirst visit. We will return, and often."

"Our first time ordering from the menu rather than prix fixe. All the plates were excellent. Appetizer/small plate portions very generous, tuna tacos were wonderful. Duck was excellent, especially the leg. Beef short rib was fabulous. The accompaniments were good for each but not as stellar as the main course. Mashed potatoes and beans were served with the duck, potato gratin with the short rib - that was not as flavorful as expected given the description. Still overall, food was great."

"This was our first time to this location as Ella’s. Extremely enjoyable. Very good food: a variety of locally-sourced and standard faire. Our server was friendly, very knowledgeable of the menu and wine list and provided just the right amount of attention. We had a bit of a wait (even with reservations), but it was well worth it. The parking lot is small, and having a complimentary valet is the way to go – don’t forget to take care of that guy, he deserves it. For those from SW RI or SE CT, I’d compare food and service to Fresh Salt, Liv's Oyster Bar, Bridge, Dog Watch. Highly recommended."

"I went to Ella's with my boyfriend to celebrate his birthday. We had a wonderful evening there. The waitstaff were very friendly, efficient, and professional. Our server knew the menu well and was happy to make recommendations. The food was delicious with generous portion sizes. It was definitely a great place to go for a special night out, and I would be sure to go back if I'm in the area again!"

"This is a true neighborhood gem. We have been several times and have found the food and service outstanding. The chef is creative with the menu. Started with Ella's chopped salad and then had the tile fish special and found it to be the best meal I have had in a very long time. We live in Fairfield County in Connecticut so we have a lot to compare with. I find Ella's to be at the top better than the Ocean House! We will make this a weekend must do."

"I've dined a dozen times at Ella's, always finding the food and service to be first rate. I/we've gotten intol the habit of starting off by sharing their wonderful pate appetizer while drinking whiskey, and then taking forever to decide what to eat and drink next. The menu makes it difficult because all the choices, including the wines by the glass, are good ones. I went the other night with a foodie friend who loved the place too."
