"I was excited to visit Wildebeest as we really love trying new restaurants especially ones that have been recommended to us. However, although the service was great and the ambience good I did not feel that the food was wonderful. The only dishes that we thought were good were the pork one and the ribs. The elk tartare lacked taste. I would not recommend this restaurant to a friend however I do not wish them bad at all and I am sure others might think differently about the food. Thank you."

"The idea behind Wildebeest seems to be to raise the animals with the utmost care, then carve them up and fry them for a few minutes. The majority of the dishes we enjoyed had zero seasoning - the meat was meant to speak for themselves. I often enjoy this, say with a juicy porterhouse. However, the meat was not cooked very well. For example, the quail that we had was translucent pink when it arrived at our table. Our server informed us that this was how the dish was intended to be served, but obliged us and sent it to be cooked further. It came back still pink, so did not try it. They were kind enough to remove the item from our bill, but every other dish was equally unsatisfactory in other ways."

"Imaginative and on-trend restaurant for carnivores in the edgier part of town, if Vancouver can be said to have an edgier side. A young crowd and charming and enthusiastic staff who guided us through the menu and the wines. We loved the short rib of beef, slow-cooked for 48 hours. As middle-aged London foodies from London where we think we have it all, we were very impressed by the vibrant restaurant scene in Vancouver of which Wildebeest is a fine example."

"We loved our 1st visit to Wildebeest. The food was outstanding..........all our food selections were wonderful. The ribeye dish was superb as were the specialty veggies. The farm egg was delightful.......... ditto the croquettes. The only dish that didn't deliver to the high standards of the others was the quail which I felt was somewhat underdone. Other than that it was all fabulous especially the amazing desserts! We ordered all 3 & they were all SO SO delicious!
Our server was a lovely young woman who was totally committed to ensuring that our dining experience was as good as it possibly could be. She was very professional , knowledgable & passionate about her job. She definitely enhanced our evening.........so nice to see!

"We had a group of 6 people. The concept is share plates so it is designed for groups. A friend of ours told us that 10 items would be enough for a group of 6. The food was really good, and the plates were brought out to complement one another. The service was really good and knowledgeable about the menu.
It is on the pricey side (approx $190 for two including say 5 booze drinks, tax and tip) and if you are expecting to come out stuffed, then I would suggest a 2 to 1 ratio of plates to people (i.e. 12 plates per group of 6). The quality of the food and service makes up for it I think. I would probably go back."

"It was my boyfriend and I's first time at Wildebeest. we were looking for a restaurant with exciting and different food and we definitely found it! we had the elk tartare-->amazing, bone marrow on toast-->could have been a bigger portion but also very yummy, sweetbreads-->my absolute favourite!really yummy and will definietly have it again, and fois gras poutine--> very delicious, the portion of the fois gras was very sizeable for the cost, definitely no profit for wildebeest on that dish. we also had a ceasar to drink, and they were simply done, but spot on! which is hard to find these days.
Overall it was a very exciting and delicious foodie adventure, extremely reasonably priced and we will definitely be returning.
Thanks!

"We are foodies and we loved Wilderbeest- it is relaxed and rustic but very skilled and progressive in technique- the result is foot that is profound and simple. While they are using molecular and new approaches those approaches serve to get the best out of the ingredients and aren't fussy. We did the omakase and let the chef and waiter pick our food and it was really a world class meal (we live in New York City and eat out almost everyday- but we found this place to be a real gem)"

"The setting here is casual, but fun. There was a nice energy in the room, and sharing dinner at a long table with other guests made for an interesting evening for conversation. The crowd was definoitely a younger group.
The food varied from exceptional to moderate (e.g., the beet salad was scruptious; the halibut somewhat dry, lacking in flavour; but the short ribs were very tastey. The dessert, with some sort of green mousse, had unique but delicious flavours."

"The Wildebeest room is beautiful and the food was very good as were the wine choices and coctail list. The price point is also very decent for the quality. However...despite pre-booking through OpenTable and were sat at probably the worst table in the room - right next to the prep area of the kitchen. The glaring kitchen lights and mise containers were right beside our heads and REALLY detracted from the experience. It was disapointing to get this spot when we weren't spontaneous walk-ins but had bothered to reserve. We ultimately were able to be re-sat about halfway through our meal and the latter half of our meal was vastly better. Just my 2 cents."

"Food was excellent and the omakase was a great format for the group. The boudin blanc was overseasoned, but all the other dishes were pretty much spot on; specific standouts were the short ribs, squid, octopus and - a personal favourite - the sweetbreads. Server for the night was very knowledgeable and attentive without being overbearing. Well done. We will be back again."

"Great ingredients and wine list. Love the idea of sharing so be careful who you invite! The beet root salad, halibut (lightly cooked - brilliant) and sweet breads (super fresh) were fabulous. I know it can be a challenge to adjust a reservation but I did not appreciate how the hostess' initial reaction. Some of the plates were over-priced for their portion. We were advised that the halibut was 10oz and the rib eye was 15oz - they may have been before they were cooked but not even close when it arrived at the table. Service took an incredibly long time and our last two courses were rushed - which did not help as the next reservation had arrived and we were quickly escorted out despite having two hours of service."

"This restaurant was recommended by a friend who said the Olives were "Out of this world"! Took my husband for his birthday dinner and was absolutely blown away! We were sat directly across the open concept kitchen and watched each of our dished prepared! I think my eyes rolled back at least five times in the delight over the food! Fabulous food and staff! The server explained each of the dishes and was attentive and friendly! It was also nice to be able to give feedback almost immediately to the chefs who stood across from us!
We have already raved about this restaurant to friends and family and will definitely be back again!"

"I heard some really bad things about the reservation process at Wildebeest, so while in the cab on the way down I made an online reservation for my friend since it was a birthday. It was Tuesday night and I'm really glad I did because the host was being a total tough crowd and now I see why they have a bad rap. Once away from the door the drinks and food were amazing. I have to say though, the service is very tense, no one seems to smile much and I think they may take themselves a bit too seriously."

"Wildebeest creates innovative dishes, combining fun techniques with age old ingredients. Because the chefs work closely with the different suppliers, they can trust the ingredients to shine brightly on each and every plate. The beet salad is fantastic, with the salted pears and creamy goat cheese as beautiful accompaniments. The bone marrow is delicious, the beef short ribs a well deserved best seller. The seawater-infused hazelnuts are my new addiction! But I would give them all up to just live on the foie gras poutine forever more..."

"Service was attentive without being obtrusive. We appreciated our server's familiarity with all items on the menu. Loved the bone marrow dish. Overall, Wildebeest lives up to its carnivorous theme while ensuring details are executed with flair."

"You know...
We had a really great night at Wildebeest.
It was a new room for my gal and I.
I was entertaining a good friend from Chicago and he certainly enjoyed his evening.
The service was excellent.
The food... very good as well except for the pork chop.
That was a fatty disappointment as the meat was very very scarce.
We knew ahead of time that the fat would be on the meat but where was the meat?
Deserts rocked.
Very tasty.
Regards,
Scott

"We were working in Vancouver from out of town and went to Wildebeest based on reviews we had read. We are always attracted to restaurants who serve local, organic cuisine and was looking very forward to trying this restaurant. We were both very disappointed with the food and found the whole experience uneventful. The pork schnitzel was too greasy, the octopus had little flavour, the ribs were tasty, but extremely fatty (so much so that I could only have a few bites); the kale was quite nice, but very small portion for the price. Wine was good, martini was mediocre and why restaurants insist on serving martini's in non-martini glasses is beyond me. Given the choices that exist in the Vancouver restaurant scene, this one is now off my radar."

"My second time here and it was awesome. The food is unusual, and I mean that it a good way - really creative things that on paper seem like they wouldn't work, but then the dish shows up on your table and it's always phenomenal. If you are open-minded and like great food, attentive service from knowledgable servers and creative cocktails then this is the place for you. Great for a date, or sit at the communal tables in the back near the kitchen and make some new friends."

"I've had the best dining experience in Wildebeest. Food was amazing. We were a party of 7 and we decided to go for the Omakase menu, which was $35/person. It was a chef's choice of courses, all 9 of them were amazing!!!!! the Elk Tartare, the Sweet breads, and the melt in your mouth Angus Short Rib are the dishes I will keep dreaming about... Karen our server was a gem. She explained everything about each course and went above and beyond to make our dining experience memorable. I had such a fun time. Special mention too to Matthew who was very accommodating when I had changes in my reservation. Wildebeest is definitely going on the list of my favorite restaurants here in Vancouver."

"The service was terrible and when we spoke to the manager he said we didn't understand the vibe, not sorry. The waiter poorer wine all over a guests hand after she had asked time and time again that she wouldn't like any more. The meat was tasty but that is if you can find the meat from the fat. It's an exspensive restaurant for what it is a the service was horrendous. However the atmosphere was pleasant. With so many great restaurants in the city, I wouldn't wast your time or money."

"some of the food was outstanding.. but the family service thing was confusing... server seemed confused as to how to guide us in terms of how much food we would need to order... then because the kitchen pops items out "whenever" and slowly, but the time we figured out we hadn't ordered enough there wasn't time to order more... we had an early reservation and it was made abundantly clear to us that we needed to leave ... ultimately the pace of the evening was not positive..waited too long for drinks and food"

"Great Restaurant, Great Food and the Service was also good.
We would and will go back, My only complaint and its a big one, was the Female chef on her iphone constantly through the time we were there, the kitchen is an open concept chefs table which i loved, so I could see everything. Including her texting or whatever she was doing, I've never seen someone check there phone so many times, even when they weren't doing a job. I probably would have enjoyed my experience that much more, if they didn't have an open concept. The food tasted great.... maybe I just don't need to see how its made?"
