Choose from favorites like Gnocchi Gorgonzola, Lasagna Bolognese, Fettuccini Milanese, Veal Marsala or Chicken Picatta to name just a few. Quiet, Romantic Atmosphere. Great food, Great service.
"Small Kitchen so make sure that you understand you are waiting for perfection. The leftovers tasted almost as good as whrn it came out of the kitchen. Very Flavorful. Decent price for the food you get."

"This has always been a neighborhood gem. With the recent ownership change we are pleased that absolutely nothing else has changed. Wonderfull pasta and seafood dishes along with all of the appropriate wines. Desserts are not forgotten, with excellent gelatos any picky kid will savor as well as a very satisfying chocolate cannoli."

"Don't be in a hurry when you go to Mamma Susanna's, but that is a good thing, most everything is cooked to order, no microwave food here! Sometimes I think they could make sure that the bread gets there a little faster, that was why only four stars on the service. But everyone there is so good, and so friendly, just that I don't like to have to ask twice for something they said they would bring over to you. I love this place and the food I crave for it even after I just leave. Don't forget to order the Tiramisu!"

"This was my second visit and the experience was even better than the first. The portions are huge. I actually love and ordered a dinner salad and bruschetta for dinner. My guest had veal picatta. But the desserts! Wow! Large slice of a family recipe cheesecake and chocolate cannoli. It was sooo good! We even met the owner! He came and asked us how we liked the place. Can't wait to bring all my family and friends!"

"Friendly neighborhood restaurant with very pleasant staff. Very nice menu with some specialty dishes that are not always found on other Italian restaurant menus. Salad greens were very fresh and not smothered in dressing. We were in the mood for pasta the night we went, so my husband had the spaghetti & meatballs, and I had the penne pasta with Italian sausage. Both were quite good. We look forward to going back and trying the chicken piccata & chicken Marsala."

"Love this restaurant. The owner is a gem and if she's in she'll make you feel like family. The staff is great, atmosphere warm & inviting, food is wonderful and lots of it. The olive oil and balsamic for their wonderful bread is deluxe. Always a great experience."

"This was our second visit and it was as enjoyable as the first. The food was very flavorful and the portions generous. And the fact that your meal is served with a salad is also a plus. There were four of us, we sat in a booth and had no touble hearing each other so I'd say the noise level was low to moderate. Mamma Susanna's is our new favorite restaurant."

"Due to short staffing our waiter was slow, did not notice we did not have plates for oil and vinegar for bread (we did not know they were available, until another waiter took notice) and did not even offer fresh parmesan cheese (there again we thought it was not available until after dinner when we noticed other patrons being offered). He tried to discourage separate checks (only 2) and just seemed to be unfamiliar with the workings of the restaurant. However, he was pleasant enough. We will return because the food was wonderful but will hope for a more seasoned waiter"

"We had heard so much about Mamma Susanna's that we hoped all the talk was true. It was and more. The food was outstanding. We had a variety of dishes (5 people), so we were able to taste each one. Couldn't find a "not so great one" in the bunch! Have already been sending out messages to my friends to dine at Mamma Susanna's! Thanks for a fun evening. Pulled the menu off the net and have circled my next ten meals that I want to try!"

"We had high hopes for this restaurant, but the food was just average. For the price, it could have been a lot better. We are accustomed to fresh pasta & it didn't appear that it was. The price did not match the quality of the food. We ordered a shrimp scampi w/cream sauce and the veal marsala which were lacking a bit in flavor. The bread was mediocre. Our server was above average."

"The Gnocchi with Gorgonzola sauce was to die for. Small glitch in getting one of our orders wrong, but they corrected it in a couple of minutes; no harm done. The service was quick and friendly and they made sure we were happy with our order. Never have gotten a bad meal from Mama's!"

"Very good old style Italian. I had Gnocchi Rose and it was delicious. They make their rose with gorgonzola, so it had just a little bite that was lovely. My companions also enjoyed their dishes very much. Generous portions and very friendly and efficient service."

"This is a very good neigborhood place that you wouldn't think of going to in Sacramento. It is NOT that far off of the beaten path in the River PArk area jsut North of Sac State. Great place very good real Italian food. Nice service. Don't be afraid of the place you should go there."

"Mamma Susanna's was wonderful. The food was great and the service was even better. They allowed me to bring in some flowers before hand so that I could surprise my girlfriend with them. I brought a vase and they trimmed the flowers, put them in the face and set them in a fridge until we got there. They were sitting on the table as we were seated and my girlfriend was super happy. It is just one example of the great service provided by the Mamma Susanna's staff and management!"

"Is a good family restaurant. Pretty "traditional" Italian. Lots of pasts and choices for sauces. Service good, restaurant super cute for being in a strip mall. Food felt like a kickback to the 60/70s. Pretty heavy sauces, good, but a little too rich. Not a lot of healthy options. Felt like someone's Italian Nonni or Nonno were working the kitchen. That is not a bad thing, just different from today's version of Italian."

"We continue to be very pleased with Mamma Susanna's. It's Italian food but you can order whole-grain or gluten-free pastas - a real plus in my book. All four of us really enjoyed our meals here on our last visit 2/16/13, a busy Saturday night. I had the salmon entree - delicious! - and tasted my friend's pumpkin ravioli (also delicious) and my other friend's mixed seafood/pasta dish with red sauce, also wonderful. One of the owners came around and talked to his dinner guests, and he had us try out a wine he was thinking of carrying. Very wonderful experience overall."

"We arrived early for our 7:15 reservation so we sat for about 15 minutes. When we were seated it was exactly 7:15 but the owner or manager apologized for the wait and bought us a bottle of wine. That really set the mood. There were 3 of us, my adult son and wife and we really enjoyed the food, it was first class and the service was excellent. We will definitely be back."

"Great hidden spot in East Sacramento. We arrived 10 minutes early and they said they were running a little bit behind schedule and gave us a free glass of wine to enjoy in the seated lobby. When our reservation time came up they had us seated and not even late! Love this place! Great service!"

"Mamma Susanna's is a small Italian restaurant tucked away in the River Park neighborhood of East Sacramento. We have been going here for the past several years and the food is consistently excellent. They recently changed owners which was a concern but we have been several times since then and it is the same wonderful place with the same great food. You will want to make reservations as this place can get booked up. Enjoy!!"

"It was our first time at this restaurant and we definitely will not be going back. The dinner I ordered was one of their specials Shrimp Scampi, it was anything but special, the noodles were under cooked and the plate had so much water/liquid that my dinner looked like it was swimming in a little pond. My wife ordered some pasta and they managed to over cook the noodles plus the it was so bland & tasteless my wife only ate about 25% of her dinner. The salads were good, the bread was okay. The seating arrangement was cramped and you could easily hear everyone's dinner conversations with out even trying. I think they need to hire some better cooks or at least have someone performing quality control before they release their dinners out."

"Mamma Susanna's is open again after closing for plumbing repairs. New owner, same chef, same staff, same good food! Previous owner Nancy is still helping out; she put a lot into the restaurant to get if to where it is, so will continue to help until she knows it will not fail. She cares, and she found a new owner with the same values she has. We had a party of 11. The service was very good, and everyone was pleased with their food! I convinced myself to try something different from my usual chicken marsala, I had the Gigante Ravioli (think mushrooms), and they were delicious. Go support Mamma's!"

"We have dined at Momma Susanna's three times for dinner and have had a great experience each time. Although I am sure that all items on the menu are great but I always order the same item because it is like a little slice of heaven. I can not imagine what it would be like to sample everything. Thank You for providing a great service to our Sacramento community.

"This is a terrific neighborhood Italian restaurant. The food is great especially the meatballs. Reminded me of the neighborhood Italian restaurants in San Francisco. The restaurant is changing owners, but the kitchen and wait staff will be the same. We met the current and future owner and they are both wonderful people who want you to feel at home in their restaurant. The recipes are being passed to the new owner so with the same kitchen staff the food should remain good."
