"Good menu selections (comfort food and steaks) and drink choices. Quite noisy, sports bar theme with lots of big screen televisions. The food was very good and the service was excellent, in spite of being busy. Reservations suggested to avoid a wait for tables."

"We love Carl's Tavern. We love the menu and atmosphere. It's a great break from cooking at home, yummy food without being too fancy or too plain. Our 5 year old son loves it and that means a lot as well. It's our go-to restaurant in town."

"We love eating and drinking at Carl's! We have yet to receive wonderful service, but we go there knowing this. The food is DELISH! They have killer happy hour specials, and they always have great oysters on the menu. We continue to go because we like the food and the setting, but go knowing the service is not stellar. It appears to be a management issue, and hopefully it will resolve itself. In the meantime, I will continue to recommend the food!
p.s. Sitting at the bar is lively and entertaining"

"The hostess was not very friendly! We had reservations and she made us stand in the middle of the resturant for 10-15 min. We were 5 min early for our reservation. When my husband pointed out that our table was ready bc we could see it, she said we were going to stand there longer until she ready to seat us and was that ok with us. Just rude overall. Once we were seated the waiter was nice and knowledgable about the menu. Good Food. Get a NEW Hostess"

"The food is outstanding at Carl's and they have a notable bar list!
The hostess was unfriendly and a bit odd. Our waitress was nice but not overly friendly.
The bar crowd pretty much consumed our reserved dinner table and needed to be better controlled. Servers and bussers couldn't get through the standing crowd and the manager did nothing to help. The restaurant was too noisy to carry on a conversation at your own table and this was early in the evening.
Perhaps Carl's is a better lunch than dinner spot, unless you're interested in either being a part of the overwhelming bar crowd or being taken over by it."

"Service was slow... had to ask 3 times for lemon for water. Wife had meatloaf, it was awful... waitress was not very helpful... manager had to come over and tell us that the meatloaf was advertised as "not your mamma's meatloaf"... it was smothered in BBQ sauce. Shrimp and grits were good, but not as good as last time. Sauce was overly spicy but not flavorful. One bowl of shrimp and grits, one bowl of spaghetti and meatballs, one beer and one martini and a side of green beens... 69 bucks with tip. Probably won't return."

"This was our favorite meal while in Steamboat. From the specialty cocktails to the salads to the steaks, all the food was great. Only tiny complaint was that the chicken pot pie was a bit bland, under seasoned. Could be personal preference. Overall, just a wonderful dining experience. Great service, kid-friendly, etc... If we had stayed longer, we would have gone back to Carl's for another meal."

"For one of the newer places in Steamboat this one appears to have the best chance for sustained success. Food is excellent although some dishes are very pricey and beware that the 5 steaks they offer do not come with sides, those are of course additional. But the main menu and kids options seemed very well thought out. My pot roast was particularly delicious.
Make reservations in advance the place was overflowing by 6pm on a Saturday night. There only appeared to be about 15 tables to sit but a huge bar area. No wonder the restaurant fills up so quickly.
Good chance we will go back but for a family of 4 the bill was north of $100 before tip so we likely will only make it back occasionally."

"We always go to Carl's when we visit Steamboat. We love Bluegrass Wednesdays with The Old Town Pickers playing. I order the grilled cheese - they do not have it listed on the menu anymore but you can still ask for it. the best I have ever had with bacon and tomato. There is also an appetizer with French fries covered in cheese, bacon and scallions that is really great."
